I have never had such a horrible experience with a company as I have with Windstream. I'll start from the beginning.

About 3 months ago I called Windstream to see about changing our telephone & Internet service from Time Warner to Windstream. We had had Windstream in the past but we needed a higher speed Internet service at the time than what was available, so we decided to switch so that all services would be on one bill. A few weeks ago my phone service was out for almost a week. When the tech came out he said the problem was due to WINDSTREAM using inside components OUTSIDE my house. The next week my internet service provided by WINDSTREAM was out for several days. This week my internet service provided by WINDSTREAM was out Friday, Saturday and most of SUNDAY! Every time I called up I was told a different story! First it was a major equipment failure, next it was a major upgrade(unannounced) and finally the last rep, said they had NO IDEA why it was out. Let me first say my husband is a disabled vet, as well as just haveing had a heart attack, stroek, anda history of seizures. We live in the country, and have little to no cell service. We also, have had family illness, with my elderly Mother n Law age 84. I work 1 hour from home, and do not get home until late in the day.
Monday we had an appointment to have our service switche over from our present home which we own, to a newly remodled home of which we also own. These homes are about 1000 yards apart.

Thank goodness I do not have service through Windstream!!! I recently moved and found out that they were the only provider where I lived. Needing internet for school, I tried setting up service through them. Three weeks of them telling me they don't service my address (even though every neighbor has them), telling me to place an order online to save money, which seems like a very conveinent thing until you are promised to hear something within two days only to call back four days later to have them tell you the order was suspended because they couldn't verify the address. I received a flyer in the mail offering unlimited phone service for $44.99 - never pay a cent more. Now I'm not ignorant of the fact that taxes and such would be in addition to that fee but when I called to check it out, I was assured multiple times by the customer service rep that this would drastically decrease my phone bill (I was previously paying around $67/month for service). I signed up for the Merge Windstream bundle of 12 mbps internet, phone, and DISH America's Top 120 for 54.99 a month. Since the first bill arrived I have been charged around 90-115 dollars a month. Everytime I call they try to tell me the charges are taxes. Well, I am sorry, but taxes do not equate to an extra 40-60 dollars a month added to your bill. They are liars! When I signed up I asked the customer service guy atleast three times to quote the TOTAL price to me and he kept telling me it was 54.99 plus taxes. My business phone has been down for 10 days. I have called EVERY day (most calls take over 30 minutes due to holds). Each day I am promised help. But no one comes. The service ticket is 06151201480. Calls are almost never returned and one supervisor even left me a phony number as a return number. Windstream is absolutely the most incompetent phone company out there, and while their phone people are polite they make excuse after excuse, lie about sending out people, and bottom line - they haven't tried in 10 days to repair a business phone line....

Had internet, telephone bundle, unlimited long distance local calls, paid my phone bills. Then one day, They told me that my charges went up. End of my first year. I told them that my charges were never supposed to go up. They said it was not in the contract. I refused to pay more than the original amount. After two months they disconnected my long distance. After 3 months my telephone service. Now they are saying I owe them $185. that includes accumulation fees. I have been scammed. They are threatening to turn me over to the credit bureau....

In the 10 years I have been able to get broadband service to my home the past 6 months have been horrible since Windstream has taken over. I pay for 3mb service at a very high price. I only receive .3 90% of the time. I have rewired my home, rework my home network, you name it I have done it to fix the problem that Windstream said had to be on my end. Winstream took over a local company in Ephrata PA. We had no problems with the old company until windstream took over. We had our services scheduled to be switched to a new address but had to postpone the switch. I called and confirmed that everything was taken care of however the services were still shut off even though I had confirmed that they were not to be turned off anymore. A phone call solicitation resulted in my agreeing to the $49.99 lock-in bundle for phone and internet, plus $9.99 for an additional phone line. I was promised that the first 30 days would be free and that the first bill would reflect a $50 rebate and a mail-in $50 rebate for the wireless modem. Then I got a bill for $214. A call to the Buffalo area number, where the order was placed, resulted in my being assured that I was not told the above and that the mail-in rebate was all that they offered. I've had Windstream ever since they took over Altel. I've had them to my home several times in the past few years to help resolve problems with slow speeds. I live in the city limits and have poorer connections than my friends who live up the mountain! Why don't they put in another relay station so that some of us city folks can enjoy the internet like the others? It may be cost effective in some ways, but losing customers to Time Warner sure doesn't sound like they are making money. My speeds are rediculously slow. Windstream has the worst service ever. In 2 years I would have to call them at least once a month because something was not working. I once had to call for my service being turned off for non payment when I paid. I called to ask why it had been turned off and they told me it said for nonpayment but that that made no sense since I was up to date on my bill. Internet sevice was down at least 3 times a month. They sent us at least 2 internet boxes because the one we had did not work. I should have know when they installed the service we would have problems because the tech left before finishing setup....

Well Upon complaining many times over and over about my internet bandwidth being too slow, I have had servicemen come to the house on several occsasions. Still my internet is much slower than I get charged for. I pay for a 12Mbps connection and see speeds of less than 1.5Mbps. I just had a service call this morning. Last I knew he was headed to the office but it seems as though he will not return. I am tired of paying for this. My last email stated that my next payment will NOT be due and payable until the speed mathes the charges. Seems that I need not pay for this lackluster service anymore....

I am writing this review purely out of frustration. I currently have Windstream as my provider of internet and telephone (which I don't even use). I am currently connected to the Internet through a data tethering service offered by my cell phone company because once again I cannot access my internet. I called on 8/31/2010 to ask for instructions on how to change callerid name for one of our company phone lines.
Larry a Windstream technical support rep stated that changing the name could not be done on site and that it would cost $25 and take 5 days to change a name on an existing phone line.
Motivated by the cost factor I logged into our server went to the applicable phone extension and changed the name myself in 15 seconds.
The intended result has been successfully achieved the callerid name was changed without using Windstream.

I have had Windstream for over 6 years, and I have had nothing but bad things to say about them. They suck, if its not our Phone line its our internet. We are always paying for a certain type of service and not getting what we pay for. I am sorry but the econominally is still suffering and me and my husband are living paycheck to paycheck and we only what to get what we are paying for. Began experiencing slow speeds and high pings in May (speeds of less than 1 mbps, pings above 600ms). Since then, problem has not abated. I went out and bought two different routers. Speed remained slow. Called customer service multiple times. They told me there was no problem. They told me to buy a new modem from them for $75.

We live in a rural area in OK and like many others, Windstream has a monopoly in out small town, . It seems like because this is a poor socioeconomic area they feel that we are not important enough to deserve the same services that others recieve. We have lived in the country for almost 5 yrs now and have been working since we moved here to get DSL in our home. I cancelled my Windstream services but because I cancelled 6 days into my billing month they expect me to pay for the entire month. I didn't have any service for 24 days. They don't prorate they tell me. This is outrageous and should not be tolerated. I wish there was some type of recourse for this company and a law that doesn't allow them to charge for services not delivered. They are terrible and I am glad I no longer use them. I would go without services then go back to them....
