Centurylink - Slow Internet in Rural Area (Peyton, CO)

We live in about 15 miles from Colorado Springs CO, in a small town called Peyton. The problem is that CenturyLink only offers 1.5mb internet here. I have called them many times, getting a variety of answers. One time they said that an upgrade was in the works, but the other 6-7 times that I have called they said that nothing is planned (just calling CenturyLink is an adventure - long hold times, dropped calls, snotty people).

I know that other in my development have the same issue - there are about 70-80 households (upscale houses) that have the same issue.

I have been a Centurylink internet customer for about a year and a half, since January 2014. When I moved to AZ from RI, my intention was to continue with my previous ISP - Cox. 15 years ago Centurylink/Qwest had a bundle deal for us. NOT ONCE IN 14 months was the bill ever correct or the same. We would lose inet service for days at a time and it would take HOURS on the phone to get anywhere, only to do it again when the next bill came. I unbundled the phone service and kept the tv, yet qwest paid the tv the next month when they were not even bundled and I was told to 'sort it out'. Why am i paying for supposedly "High Speed Internet" when i'm only getting 226kb Per Second !! This is outrageous . it says that I should be getting around 20 Mbs when in reality i'm getting 10x lower than that. I have no idea why it says 1.8Mbs next to 226kbs, but in reality i get around 200kbs on almost every download, and around in the daytime it hits around 20kbs. Even if i did get 1.8Mbs that's still nowhere near 20Mbs where i'm supposedly advertised to be at. You guys should stay away from CenturyLink, and avoid waisting money. Yes, this is a long complaint. The bottom line is that after jumping through every hoop CenturyLink has put in my path, my elderly mother still does not have phone service more than two week after I started the process of trying to get her a landline in her new apartment. CenturyLink has bungled this every step of the way, and they deserved to be first on the list of most disliked companies in the US. I made my first complaint about CenturyLink after receiving a message from them that my service order was complete. I have just received notice from my niece that my mother's phone STILL is not working. This must qualify as elder abuse. I am going to figure out how to complain to the PUC in Washington about this. I've been trying to resolve this since before my service got activated. I signed up through chat because I wanted to use my own modem and the sign up form didn't have that option. The day of my service activation the modem showed up at my door. I was told to return the modem using the pre-paid return label inside which I did the same day. I was told the bill would be adjusted by the end of the billing cycle and that I only needed to pay for the residual amount, but it never was fixed. I received a disconnect notice in the mail and had to call in to tell them they had received the modem....

I moved in Nov. 2013 and cancelled my service with Centurylink. I used the prepaid shipping label to return the modem. Six months later, I received a collections letter billing me for the modem. Since I moved 1400 miles away, I had no idea where the tracking label ended up. I'm out $100 for a fraudulent charge. I will NEVER be a Centurylink customer again....

Several months ago I moved into an interim location while I was waiting for our new home to be built. I could not use my old number, so I needed to have it call forwarded to a new number (the central office in my area did not serve that number?). I ordered service on Sept. 1. On that date, I spoke to a CenturyLink rep and said that I wanted bundled Internet and DirecTV. I was told that my Internet would be installed on Sept. 4 and DirecTV on the 7th. Brand new customer with Centurylink where I got the landline phone/Internet bundle advertised at $54.95. First bill came in at $75 for the bundle and a $50 charge for "Easy Number" which I didn't ask for. I've filed a complaint with the FCC and we need more of you people with complaints to do the same. I called to cancel my service (I was moving, not to mention I had to call their tech support on average 2X a month due to extremely slow (10 min to load a page) internet or no service), and the first time, it seemed to be smooth sailing (aside from it taking 38 minutes to do the call). For the third day now, a CenturyLink Representative has rang my doorbell to push there services. I have told them three times now that I don't want there products and it doesn't end there. I keep getting phone calls from people with such thick Indian accents that I can only understand every other word they say, claiming they're applying some discount or another to my company phone bill and long distance. One of the worst companies, by far, one of the worst companies when it comes to customer care and interoffice communications is Century Link; as the old adage goes: (The left hand does not know what the right hand is doing). Offered DSL Internet for $19.95 per month. (Ursula in Tennessee) Modem was free. Credits offered for shipping and activation. Internet activated on 15 February. When bill came in, the billing cycle was to 16 February. One day internet service was $60.00 and change.

I called customer service and was told that I was never offered that price. Supervisor (Kelsey) told me to pay the bills as is. She was not going to do anything for me.

CenturyLink is well known for its scams in this part of NJ. I wish I had known that before I had agreed to their DSL.
