I called and asked if I could get a 48 hours extention so my electric wouldn't get turned off and they told me no. I am on disability with two children I have never had my electric shut off and have been with ambit for 5 years. they proceeded to tell me they were sorry they there was nothing they could do and good luck! worst customer service I have dealt with in my 35 years on earth!!! on top of it all I have $205.00 dollars on my credit from them from an address I have never lived at!!!...

In October 2012, I was notified by a collection association that I owed a utility bill from 2 1/2 years ago. I called Ambit Energy - was told five different times that I had a zero balance. I complained to the BBB as well as to the CEO, Jere Thompson as I could not get an answer. SOMEONE named Sara called me representing Mr. Thompson stating that this company had a NEW collection agency. However, they would clear my account, notify all credit bureaus and the Credit Protection Agency that the account was closed. My bill was $200 in which was paid on the disconnect day. On my way home from paying the bill, my lights were cut off. After speaking with a representative who reassured me my lights would be back on the same day, I am now in day 2 with no lights... All of the people in here don't have a clue how an electric company work... let me explain...It doesn't matter who's your electric provider, it could be; txu, direct energy, ambit, etc...the people that read the meter is ONCOR. Oncor are the people that own all the meters, poles, and wires in ur area...for cities in the south could be CP, or AEP texas, cities in the north could be TNMP.. They read the meters and send the usage to your electric provider..The electric provider just bills you for the usage... Depending on what plans ya'll have with them...with ambit... they have...

Ambit Energy turned off my electricity to my business in the middle of a business day after I tried several times to pay my bill. I had to pay $900 extra dollars in addition to the normal balance due in order to get service restored. They even pulled up on their screens that I showed that I had attempted several times to pay. Ambit energy is a scam, I made a payment of $85 saturday on the automatic system and I have been charged $8500. The system asked me to enter in dollars and cents. I entered 85.00 the system did not ask me to confirm the amount entered and did not repeat the amount I entered. As soon as I entered the amount the system said thank you your payment of $8500 have been approve. I think one has to be intellectually honest with themselves. Energy is a commodity and changes everyday, consumers usage change everyday and so can we agree that their bills will change monthly.

I am writing to prove without a doubt that Ambit is to good to be true.

They were mentioned as teh fastest growing company in the United States doing 325 Million in less then 3 years
They have a A Rating on the Better Business Bureau
They are a part of DSA.org

My wife & I use Ambit Energy for electric service. We (Ambit Energy, and my wife & I) are currently in the middle of a fixed rate contract of 10.5 cents per kilowatt hour for electric service. This fixed rate means that the consumer should pay that fee per kilowatt hour and no more per kilowatt hour for the term of the contract (which does not expire for many months to come). I understand there are a few negligible charges on electric bills, such as an energy efficiency charge, advanced meter charge, taxes and such those are expected. Where do I begin??? I have only had Ambit Energy since October 2008. I REGRET signing up for a contract on July 3, 2009. I had a bill due on July 10th. I was in the middle of moving, and I do admit I did not pay it. HOWEVER, I NEVER RECEIVED A DISCONNECTION NOTICE. I DID receive 2 more bills. One showing a due date of July 31 and another showing August 10th. I know once was final bill from previous address. So, when I got my bill showing due July 31, I thought ok, it shows past due balance, new total balance, and due date. NOTHING ABOUT DISCONNECTION CHARGES, DISCONNECTION OR ANYTHING TO THAT NATURE....

I bought a home a year ago and signed up for Ambit Energy for my new home through a friend consultant. I got a rate of 10.94 cents/kWh which is a very good deal. However, just this month, I reached the 13 month after my 1 year contract and I received a bill over $620. Ambit Energy states that they will provide you with a very good rate but will change it (doubled it in my case) the following month after your service is activated. They will also put you in an Average Billing catagory so when you finally get smart enough to leave them you will get a LARGE BILL with your overage charged to you! Do not believe the line that the rates will be lower, or that your bill will be too, and one thing that we noticed also was that your bill will come in 3 week cycles, with absolutely NO grace period. not even 1 day!!! And your services will be shut off!!! The phone lines are horrible when trying to contact customer service, unless you go through "the new customer" department. This is one of the biggest mistakes we've ever made as far as utility companies, we never should have switched!!! Our bill has more than doubled!!! DO NOT buy into Ambit!!!...
