AARP - Bad insurance information

Posted: 2013-11-22 by RBon
Complaint Rating: 67 % with 3 votes
I called today to find out about my coverage while I am going abroad. I was told that I have no coverage! So I called another company to get emergency coverage. I then called AARP back to find out about canceling my insurance while I am away, and now they saw I am covered. But in the mean time, I have bought additional insurance! Now I am on hold, again for a long time, with your rep, Daniela Fuentes, who is researching what coverage I have. And she has categorically denied that you will pay me back for the additional insurance that I have ordered. VERY BAD SERVICE!!!...

AARP - Repayment from AARP

Posted: 2013-11-14 by Beverly Drake
Complaint Rating: 100 % with 1 votes
I attended your Convention in Atlanta, GA- 2013. There was a mix up with my church, Brentwood Baptist Church, to go on line and register for the convention and our registration fee would be free. Arriving at the center, we found we were not registered. I paid and was told to and call AARP for reimbursement for my $25. I call twice and was told, check in the mail. I call today and was told since I paid cash, cannot locate my payment. Contact me at 713 383 1747. I know you know whether I paid or not. beverly.drake@va.gov...

AARP - membership

Posted: 2012-03-13 by Ernest.Karhu
Complaint Rating: 86 % with 7 votes
After being annoyed for the past three years to renew my membership after a three year renewal, I renewed reluctantly for another five years. I received no confirmation although I was encouraged to update my online information. After checking my membership status the following day, I noted no change in my membership dues status scheduled to expire in August. It was only March. I checked my online banking which verified a payment to AARP. I called AARP. They have no record of my payment. They apologized for my frustration but offered no resolution or further concern. It is my problem to solve. Why...

AARP - New York - Scare Tactics To Get Donations

Posted: 2011-10-25 by Dawn Michelle
Complaint Rating: 75 % with 4 votes
Despite the fact that Social Security is giving us a COLA, AARP keeps sending e-mails using scare tactics in order to get donations, probably to support their cushy offices. Enough already! I'm NOT renewing my membership!...

AARP - Unauthorized debits to your account

Posted: 2011-09-06 by Ragliff
Complaint Rating: 88 % with 8 votes
Today I noticed a $16 debit to my checking account for AARP. I called the number that was listed on my online checking account for AARP. The female that answered the phone questioned me to verify my name, address, and date of birth. They had all this information plus my bank account numbers in their system…how? I have never done any transactions with AARP, I am only 44 and it is my understanding AARP has an age requirement of 50.

The female did some checking, place me on hold for quite a while and said a credit would be issued to my account within 2 months. The $16 is not the...

AARP - California, Long Beach - False Advertising

Complaint Rating: 86 % with 7 votes
If anyone rerceives an "invitation to membership" with instructions to receive a "free travel bag", DON'T BELIEVE IT. This bag is only 5" x 3" x 2", large enough to take a tube of lipstick, maybe a toothbrush, and a small tube of toothpaste. IT IS NOT A TRAVEL BAG. IT IS A "PENCIL" BAG-A LITTLE SMALL FOR MY TRAVELING NEEDS. I know baggage is expensive on air travel. However, we still need something much larger and lighter than this piece of garbage. It isn't worth the dues, $16.00 + postage, for one year. WATCH OUT-DON'T GET SUCKED INTO...

AARP - Family Can Help Protect Seniors from Scams

Posted: 2011-03-09 by Trevon P
Complaint Rating: 100 % with 1 votes
With a growing number of baby boomers aging into retirement and looking to make investments, a new wave of financial scams has plagued the nation's elderly.

An investigation conducted by the Securities and Exchange Commission, state regulators and Financial Industry Regulatory Authority found seniors falling prey to a myriad of tactics. One common tactic is the offer of a free lunch at seminars aimed at selling products; people are often told, however, that nothing will be sold. An investigation into these meetings prompted the Securities and Exchange Commission to hold a "senior...

AARP - Colorado - Billing

Posted: 2011-02-15 by tytypeck
Complaint Rating: 100 % with 6 votes
My Grandmother is a member of your service. Last night, while visiting she had told me about a bill that she has been getting for $192.00 repeatedly. She has had problems in the past with getting bills for reasons unknown to her, one of them was for $37.00 for dental coverage that she did not have. My grandmother is 94 years old, but she is still very much “with it” and pays her bills on time each month. I called customer service with her last night and no one can give me any reason as to why she owes this money?! The customer service rep (Amber) went back to 2009 when she thinks there...

AARP - Rip off

Posted: 2011-01-25 by StJoeChuck
Complaint Rating: 87 % with 15 votes
The AARP evolved from an insurance company consumers group to an organization dedicated to serving the interests of Senior Citizens. It has done a remarkably good job of letting Seniors know what is going on in Washington and whistle-blowing public and private items that are not in our best interests. Then the AARP endorsed Government Health Care, saying it would lower our insurance costs, raise Medicare benefits and lower Medicare costs. The opposite is true. Insurance costs are already rising and we are facing a decrease in Medicare benefits and government financing. AARP is looking forward to...

AARP - Massachusetts - Prescription RX

Posted: Rubysdad
Complaint Rating: 83 % with 12 votes
I was called by an AARP health care representative last year (or perhaps longer than that) and encouraged to join the AARP Rx plan ‘at no cost.’ I argued that I didn’t need another health plan; I was fully covered. ‘But this is FREE, ’ he said, ‘you won’t have to pay for a thing. It’s just added insurance for you.’ Aware that often, those things first advertised as ‘free’ eventually become not-so-free, I still maintained my content with what I had. He persisted. ‘Won’t have to pay for a thing, ’ he said. Clearly,...

If you are a permanent staff, life is good. If you are a temp staff... hahaha sucks to be you!
Hours 6am-2pm or 8am-4pm 7 hours with 1 hour lunch (not paid). Not bad. Two shifts Sunday
through Thursday or Tuesday though Saturday Still not bad...No sick days or Vacation days,
but your a temp. What do you expect? Well here is were I had the problem. Day one, I was
told not to expect a full time offer. That they hired only 3 people in the last 7 years. They had a
full time staff of 10-15 people and about 30-35 temps, so they didn't have to pay for benefits.

AARP - How double debit caused $175.00 overdraft fee

Posted: LeoP88
Complaint Rating: 0 % with 0 votes
How AARP caused my checking Account to be overdrawn and their refusal to acknowledge their mistake.

As a Veteran that depends on my Disability and my VA Pension, AARP will not respond only stonewall. Plus they will not refund any money that is owed immediately.

But as I was told it will take to billing cycles = to 60 days to refund $32.00. Nor refund the overdraft fees ($175.00) that was created by their error. Do business with AARP at your own risk.

Per my conversations with: Customer Service Rep (Alisa), Spvr. (Patty Kidd) and Jennifer Dishman on 06-08-2010....

AARP - AARP does NOT represent my interests politically

Posted: Dr_Dave
Complaint Rating: 100 % with 9 votes
After AARP's support of the Obama Care Health Plan I contacted AARP in writing and via telephone to cancel my membership since they obviously do not represent my best interests since anyone can clearly see that ObamaCare is not best for me or the country. Their support of this made their stance on the issue perfectly clear.
AARP never aske me or any other dues paying member what our position was on this issue. They took it upon themselves to decide for the memebership how we should think on this issue.
AARP - Reservationist errors

Posted: JacR01
Complaint Rating: 100 % with 8 votes
I made an international reservation with an operator through AARP travel powered by Expedia. The reservationist misspelled my name but correctly spelled my wifes. I noticed this after receiving my confirmation. I contacted AARP travel powered by Expedia and after an hour on the phone they were able to correct the error. They also charged me $20.00 for this change.I feel that since AARP Travel powered by Expedia made the error that they should pay for the change.

I corresponded with Expedia. They were no help in resolving this problem.

Also very hard to understand repersentives.

AARP - Travel Bag

Posted: Tony S.
Complaint Rating: 92 % with 234 votes
I recently joined AARP partly because they offered a free travel bag, the promotional flier showed a photo of the bag, it looked very nice. I expected a substantial bag with a shoulder strap, a bag which could carry a significant amount of belongings in when you "travel." When it came, it did look like what was pictured on the flier, but it was tiny, about the size of a small camera bag. Not really useful in a practical way, and not what one normally thinks of as a travel bag. The photo of the bag on the flier didn't show a person or anything next to it so you'd know that it...

AARP - Florida, atlantis - Insurance

I called AARP/Hartford insurance, on 4-25-09, to change my current Hartford auto insurance and umbrella from my private agent to AARP. The savings would have been $2000 a year. The AARP agent took my information and said my wife and I had an excellent driving record. They asked me several questions to qualify for the umbrella policy and all was in order. The AARP agent then put me on hold saying that he had to get approval from the underwriter. He came back and apologized and said that he had one more question.

Since I am a physician, he asked if I had ever published or will ever...
