Last Wednesday my wife and I arrived at the Panera Bread in Arroyo Grande, CA after being on the road for 3 hours. We both needed a bathroom and wanted to purchase some bagel. We got the bagel, but we were told that the bathrooms were closed because of Covid 19.
I asked for the manager and it just so happened that the District Manager was in the store. She came over and told me that the San Luis Obispo Health Department would close the restaurant location down if they were caught letting someone use the bathroom. I questioned this as even with Covid 19 my bladder still fills up. I really had an emergency so I just ignored her and walked past the group of chairs blocking the way to the bathroom and went.
As soon as we got back into the car I called the Health Department at San Luis Obispo county and was told that the bathrooms could be open and if an inspector was at the location there wouldn't even be a write-up. They simply suggest it be cleaned often, but it's a suggestion only. I called the location and asked for the District Manager who had misinformed me. I was told she had just left so I left my name and number and asked for a return call. Needless to say, I never heard from her. I was at the restaurant on Sunday and left my card again requesting a call back.
I hate to be lied to...as a matter of fact, I won't stand for it. This location should immediately open their bathrooms to the public who make purchases at the restaurant.
