Corruption
I have been getting harassed by the Chief of Police in Hearne, TX on multiple occasions, in front of eye witnesses when I have done nothing wrong, yet if you are related to him, you can get away with anything, they run the city like they are a gang, instead of solving cases and protecting, they sit and hide in places only to write speeding tickets. Thomas knows where the criminals are, instead of arresting them, he hangs out with them. Please look into this department again. Thank you.
Desired outcome: New Chief of Police
Police Services, Traffic Enforcement
This happened to me on April 2, 2014 while passing through Hearne. I would like to warn EVERYONE about the dangerous police department this city operates. They dislike minorities and employ police without checking their background. The police loves to harass innocent folks passing by especially if you aren't white. As an advisory to the public I have chosen to share what happened to me while passing through Hearne.
On my way back from a business trip in Waco, TX I just got pulled over a little bit ago (1:00am ish) by Officer Stephen (Chuck) Stem Hearn police department. He said I was speeding 42 in 35 mile zone. He asks some information about me and then goes on to ask me if I have gotten any tickets for anything in the past. I told him yea I got a ticket for running a red light which was dismissed a few months ago. Officer Stem takes my license, goes to his car and supposedly runs my license through his system. He comes back and tells me that he asked if I had gotten any other tickets and that I lied to him. He tells me he found another ticket issued to me in Milam County (I don't even know where that is at) 3 days ago. I told him it must be a mistake because I haven't been issued any such ticket. Officer Stem says that's what it says in the system. His demeanor suddenly changed and he asked me why I'm sweaty. I told him it's because I've been doing sales past 12 hours, I'm tired, driving back to Houston and because I have oily skin. Then out of the blue Officer Stem asks me if I have a bomb in my car. At that point I feel really threatened. I tell him let me call my attorney or someone else who can listen in on the phone call. Officer Stem as I'm dialing my phone reaches into my car through the DRIVER side window and snatches it out of my hand. He tells me no phones. A few seconds later I get a call on my bluetooth from my brother Umair. I really quickly try to tell him that I've been stopped by police and I'm getting harassed. I don't even make it to the harassed part when the officer shuts off my phone. Tells me no phones. At this point I was really freaked out alone with a crazy officer. He calls his other buddies up, 6 other cops arrive on the scene. They make me get out of the car. One of the cops pulls me to the side and then continues to interrogate me. He asks, where I am from? I told him I was born in America, I'm American. He then asks me where my parents are from. I told him Pakistan. Then I am searched for no reason. They keep asking me what I am on and why I am sweaty. I tell them nothing and it's cause I own an electricity company plus I work 90+ hrs and I've been doing sales all day. They then ask me if I have any bombs in the car. I say no. One guy tries to make a deal with me, if I tell him if I have a little bit of something in my car, he'll make sure the penalty is not that bad. They ask me how long ago I was in Pakistan. I told them 10-15 years ago or something. They search my car, go through all my stuff and then after 30 minutes let me go with a warming (with like 8 police officers there and 4 cop cars). Right now I just don't know what to think about this situation. I've never had anything like this happen to me before. I don't even think them asking me get out of the car was legal. Can cops just snatch your phone out of your hand and hang up on your calls? Can the cops intimidate you with fake charges and pressure you without an attorney into letting them do a search? I'm am so lost right now! Not to mention why do they have to know where I am from, where I have been, etc..? Cop even went through my passport he found in the back of my trunk.
After this happened to me I was extremely shaken up. Now I have made it my mission to warn everyone about this corrupt police department. I hope the city of Hearne, TX cleans up their act and gets more competent police officers to work in their police department. I also hope they stop harassing minorities and other citizens for no reason.
