Car dealership offered a $1000 gift certificate when you test drive one of their vehicles. This is a gift certificate scam. You pay for every item you choose...Many of the charges are more than the item is worth...

Vaden Chevy/ Cadillac here in Savannah, GA did the same thing. My daughter is close to getting her license so I figured I would go out and test drive a vehicle and see what I won. The woman (lady would NOT be the correct word) asks what I would like to test drive. I tell her we are a couple of months out for buying a car but figured we would take a test drive while we decide what our next car would be. She asks "If I hold a couple of months payments for you would that get you to buy today?" I politely smile and my 13yo daughter chuckles. She then asks why would you take a test drive if you are not going to buy a car today. Now my 13 yr old's eyes get as big as saucers. She gets how transparently sleazy or 'sketchy' this is.
I say b/c it says I have won something. The woman says well I'll just give it to you then and tells me that she is with the marketing co and flys out tonight, back to California. I leave with $750 in gift cards more disappointed in the Vaden family for their incredibly bad move.
1. Buying a car is a very serious expense for most families.
2. Instead of starting and building a relationship with a sales person or sales team as we start this process, I am treated rudely by an out of town snake oil salesman.
3. If a 13 yr old can see how backwards this process is, can't just about everyone else?
4. I asked my 15 yr old to go to the website and see what these were worth. After hearing the story, she said not on her computer, she thought the site would give her computer a virus.
5. So I decided to GOOGLE this and read some of these stories. No need to go to the site. No need to buy my next car from the Vadens.
6. If this happened to you in SAVANNAH, Call the Vaden Sales Department at [protected] and let them know what a bad business move this was!

HAHAHAHA. Schame on you... So this must be going on all over the United States, what a rip off.
Is'nt there anything, that can be done about this? A few years back, we won 300.00 worth of gas, from another dealer here, yeahhhhh, but when ever I called there was no answer, so another scam.Schould have learned by now LOL. I rather just get the normal umbrella in hand, that we used to win, lolololol.

I was opening my mail and among them was this unusual envelope. You know, real official like where you have to bend the edges and remove them to open the envelope and it had security markings on it so you couldnt see inside. Then I felt what was clearly a credit card. I thought to myself, ok more junk mail but at least they were clever enough to get me to take a look so I open it and it told me not to ignore that I was a finalist (event tho I never entered anything) because I would end up like some other person they name that lost their prize for not responding. The prize notice was from AIRPORT CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE in Orlando, FL. There was a scratch off and it matched one of 3 winning numbers and it said I was then definitely getting 1 of 4 prizes. a $10k debit card, a MAC iPad, a $500 holiday gift card, or $150.00 in cash. Immediately I knew I was getting a gift card because the other prizes had value and the odds were 1 in 3 people! Then I noticed the card was to some site I had never heard of: "selectyourgifts.com". So I thought, ok Im limited to that 1 site, let me see what [censor] they are peddling on there. I went to the site and I could not even look at what prizes I had to choose from. At LEAST they had some examples of the prizes I could select and I thought it all looked like cheap junk to me but I figured if it wouldnt cost me anything I could just sell the stuff for cheap on ebay. I read the terms and it said I had to pay a shipping and handling fee but did not say how much it would be. I then found their FAQ page and the question was there about what that fee would be and the answer only commented on the additional per order $5 charge! Then I did a Yahoo! search and found all your complaints and then thought "I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT! Thank you all for your feedback and Im sorry for those of you who experienced a nightmare responding to this scam. I am going to post this on my blog and e-mail it to the dealer. Not to make them aware because I expect they know the cards are worthless, but to let them know that alot of us are on to scam they are associated with. They are shameless and guilty by association.

I just received two gift cards from a car dealership in PA (free shopping spree) and I can't even log in using the card number and pin. It states it does not recognize those numbers. Even worse, you go to email someone, and the email does not go through. What a scam!

Is there anyway I can cancel it? I just now did it and have to wait for the office to open tomorrow at 10 to call back.
Can I still cancel? The lady told me I could cancel it and only try it for a month or something. So if she tells me no..what should I do?
I was really hoping to use that $1000 for Christmas gifts..but I guess that's not the case.

I just got a call today (10/25/2010) from selectyourgift.com. They started this monolog about $1000.00 of free gifts from their website. Then I was put on the phone with another fellow (I heard children playing in the background). I just had a previous dealing with ANOTHER company before I has sense enough to realize they were nothing but scam artists...thank God. He proceeded to tell me of the wonderful gifts I could get off their website (that you can't even open up unless certain numbers are given). Then he talked about magazines I'd get each month for $3.96 per week...now get this...FOR THE NEXT 60 MONTHS. You do the math. All they want is your credit card number! I looked up his sight online as we were on the phone and low and behold, I found THIS website as well as their official website. When I told the fellow I wasn't interested...he slammed down the phone. My conclusion, in this world, NOTHING is free. There are no trump-up rewards to be won. People are trying to exist and that's all. Put these bums out of business. If you've been scammed, tell about it...don't be ashamed because there are lots of us in the same boat. The Internet is just a tool and give you the privacy of visiting people and places you haven't been before but everthing comes with a price. THIS ONE is called: SELECTYOURGIFT.COM. These scam artists are a plague on the Internet so protect yourself and remember...NOTHING IN LIFE IS FREE!

I'm on the bandwagon about selectyourgifts and the junk they SELL under the guise of shipping charges. Mine was a scratchoff win in a flier I got in the mail from Miller Dodge in Springfield Pa. Just a mile from me. You won't believe what they tried to do to get me to buy a car. Besides this scratch off that must be claimed at the dealership, they attempted to convince me "WALK AWAY from my current car loan by allowing the bank to repossess the car. After 12 months of paying on the new car from their lot, future lenders won't care about the repo on my credit record. Nothing will happen to me. I won't get a court judgement to pay the difference between the loan principle and the auction sell off by the bank. Nooo. Everything will be fine.
Well, a business that stoops to offering such potentially damaging advice to facilitate buying their product is associated with offering selectyourgifts.com speaks volumes about the gift site itself.

I just got a call from them today! they said that i won $1000 shopping spree cert. and i said how do i know this is not a scam. and he said that he was from YMS which stands for your magazine source.
and he told me that i can select my gifts from seletyourgifts.com
he informed me about i get free subscription of a few major magaizes like 17 for 3 months and after that if i want to cancel it i can.
and then he started talking about i have to pay a "one time fee" of 8.95 or something for shipping and handling, and they will send me a package with my cert in it. so i asked him if i can pay after he sent me the package. He paused and said that the one time fee covers the shipping for package also.
so i told him that i need to check his company out first.
he's gonna call me back tomorrow

so glad i did some research first :)
it just sounded like too good to be true.

Yep, it just happened to me...they told me I won a $1000 gift card and they just needed to check my card and see if I had a MasterCard, visa etc. and they would not charge it. That it were a promotion, after the phone call I just wanted to make sure they didn't put nothing on my card, I called the bank in less than 5 minutes and they said my bank account had been wiped out and I have overdrafts. I have never been so hurt and pissed. Something that I thought was a blessing was indeed a nightmare. STAY AWAY from these Magazine thieves.

I am more than thankful to have found this website. I have spent the last hour searching ever portion of this flyer on google to find something bad about it. I received it in the mail in a brown envelope with a tear off portion to find this so-called $10, 000 preloaded debit card from "platinum plus". Then I open it all the way and see a piece of paper stating that there is an auto asset sell-off and grand prize extravaganza like 30 minutes from where I live.
It claims that there is $0 down payment and $146 per month for the vehicles. I didn't even enter anything so I knew right away this had to be fake. First thing that came to my mind, if it's too goo to be true, it probably is. An amazingly enough, my winning number matched the card one. When I first seen it, it reminded me of when my sister received a bunch of scam mail ( she is verrrrry gullible) and I would tell her not to get her hopes up because they could scam you out of your money. You know the one with the scratch off portion that's not even lined up with the box or it comes with a key, yea those ones.
But anyways I searched up finalistlogon.com and that search led me here. So I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing this bs. If you get anything like this in the mail, DON'T FALL FOR IT! You'll only make matters worse.

I was clearly not paying attention when I received the phone call telling me that I had won the $1000 shopping spree. I asked how they had got my information and the woman said it was because I had good credit with Visa, Mastercard etc. The person I initially spoke with disn't ask for any addtional info so I rolled with it. Then I was transferred to another lady who needed to verify my credit card information for some magazine stuff. I stupidly gave it to her. After the call ended I googled it to see if it was a sham because it definetly seemed like one. Sure enough I read everyone's post and regretted it. I call the credit card company to cancel the card that I had gave them, and sure enough they had tried to charge it although it didn't go through. I feel really stupid but also really greatful for everyone who posted warnings and their stories. Thank you all so much and hopefully this scheme will get shut down!

I was just called a little bit ago and a guy named Johnathan was like hey, you just won a $1000 online shopping spree on "selectyourgifts.com" and yaddi yaddi yah...6 magazine subscriptions for $3.58/week for 24 or 36 months and all you have to do is pay shipping and handling fees. I never won anything before so of course I was excited about it. Right when I went to go get my debit card to tell him the number he said that he already has my information and I thought that it sounded fishy...so I had my fiance' talk to the guy and my fiance was like use your head, its a scam and hung up...right after that happened they called me 4 times in a row! Right when i was so happy, it was too good to be true...shows how dumb I am...especially since I thought it was part of a contest that I did enter my name into

They are scam do not fall for anything they r telling you! I am a victim and was very stupid to agree to them!
DO NOT GIVE YOUR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION TO ANYONE!
they told me that I won a $ 1000 gift card @ select your gifts. com & later tells me to select magazines, I never receive anything. a guy name Peter called me and wanted me to call him back! I did He told me that I have $ 700 on collections! I was like What? I began explaining to him about my problems, he said yes I understand, but do you want to work on a payment plan I said no I don't have that money I will not pay it because I look in the internet and find out that this is a scam! I told him not to call & I don't care if I am on collections. I hang up! please we should do something to fight these people. And if they send our names to collections we should strike and get our name cleared!
lesson learned! now before I agree to anything I will do my research and if they insist give them a fake name and a fake address they deserve to be lied to!

Mine was a scam they used "Walmart". Each time I said Walmart the girl just ignorned me (now that I think back). However since they lead me to believe they were connected to "Walmart" that is a clear case of FRAUD. Today I was thinking of contacting Walmart and question them on this or alert them. Maybe they will start a class action? Otherwise someone injured would have to go to a willing attorney and convince them to do it. I'll keep in touch and let people know what Walmart has to say. We should keep each of us informed as to outcomes so new people are not left wondering what will happen to them or how do they get out of this. Later!

I telephoned them this morning. Didn't sleep all night. I told them very nicely that I just received the info and truth is I was expecting a Walmart card and this has nothing to do with Walmart. She put me on hold several times and said I would have to pay the one time of 37... and change. I told her according to my bank they already took it. She insisted they had not. Not going to argue. According to the letter there is no penalty for cancelation with the time. However I remineded her that the tape should have me referring to this being from Walmart and that is Fraud. she then acted as if she was doing me a favor and said, "ok your account has been cancelled." Yes I am making a copy of the letter and sending it back to them signed. Bank closed my account (It was paid off before this) and they are sending me the paper work to get my money back. The other junk was cancelled as well. This could have been absolutely horrific. Guess I should consider myself lucky.

This is awful. When I got the phone call I asked if this was for Walmart. I had started to fill out the survey but stopped because they want your cell phone number and then text you back. I dont have that so I stopped. She said oh maybe that's how we got your info. She then stated the business about the magazines. I thought I read them anyway so no big deal. However she left me with the impression that the card was for Walmart. The package did not come as they stated. It arrived today almost 3 weeks later. No Walmart. The letter states you can cancel within 3 days of receipt of the documents. The letter was dated 2 weeks agao. With it came the United Benefits Advantage thing. I know for a fact I did not order that. That also states you can cancel. I immediately came on lne and started my research. I am nervous because some people say they could not cancel and were being charged humdreds of dollars. I just got off the telphone with my credit card people and she stopped the card. She said I was already charged the 5 whaterver for the UBA and 38 for the magazines. She is sending me the dispute paper work and told me not to worry about any other charges. But hey look at all the money these people are making by keeping whatever monies they get from each of us. This is terrible. I am going to call as soon as they both open and cancel. I will also send back the signed paper work. I am so upset. In my case this was actually a case of fraud. They have me on tape asking if this was a Walmart card so they cant dispute that issue but I never ordered this other junk.We really need to be so careful these days.

I totally agree with everyone who commented here. Select your gift is a gimmick. The items are so cheap til the shipping prices are more that the items. The five dollar processing fee is a gimmick why would you have to pay them for products and turn around and pay them to process it? I think the better bussiness bureau should be contacted!

I completely agree with everyone, these stupid so called shopping spree certificates to me are all fraud! Someone needs to put a stop to all of this and now and how dare all of the dealerships that give these certificates away believe that they are real when they are not. I know they are just trying to sell cars, but to tell you that you have won something that is a fraud is wrong on their part. They should always investigate what they are giving away as prizes before they go and try to sell cars and use those kinds of things to get your attention with. That shows bad judgement on their part. Anybody know of a way that we can sue and get our money back?

My story is the same. Ads for $10, 000 cash if you have the winning number on the card a local car dealership sent thru the mail. You have to go to the dealership in person to see if you have the winning number. Salesmen literally swarmed on me, I was rushed to a table and the pitch started. . .they wanted the milage on my vehicle, etc. and told me by coming in I could automatically qualify for an additional $2, 200 discount. I thanked him, declined on a new vehicle and asked about the numbers. He very quickly went to an office and came back with what looked like a debit card and said I qualified for the $500 gift card. I asked if I could use it anywhere and he pointed to the card and said "Go to this website, fill out the info and you have $500 shopping online." I left thinking I could shop anywhere online. Wrong! However, this being a large, local dealership who advertises daily on the radio, I'm going back with the card and let them know I'm calling the Better Bus. Bur. AND I'm going to see the circuit judge to see if this isn't fraud. Then I'm going to the radio station. This is so very WRONG!

We were scumed by timeshare seller REM. They said they will sell our timeshare, if not they will provide the gift certificate (stupid me, where is my brain). We paid for them for there service, of course, nothing happened. Nobody even didn't move a finger to sell timeshare. Then they sent us gift certificate. Paper looks ugly, I though it's kind of strange that it says PLEASE DO NOT GO TO A SEARCH ENGINE. Thanks goodness that somebody in that "scummer company" give advise for evebody DO SEARCH FIRST!

I completely agree 100% with everyone. I too was scammed last year out of $115 of what was supposed to be free stuff and wasn't. I got mine from dealership too, Palmers' Toyota in Mobile, Alabama. So whoever decides to throw a lawsuit at Select Gifts and their partners for fraud, let me know so I can join in as well.

I too thought that I really had lucked up when I was told that I had won a five-hundred dollar gift certificate, It was just too good to be true.To my surprise I log on to Select Your Gifts, and in big bold letters appears SCAM!WOW the things people will do.I cant believe I gave these people my credit card number and personal info without looking into this first.Oh its real and it is plenty of these people out here that we have to watch out for let this be a lesson learned. And the thing that makes me even more mad is not only did these people take from me but they took away from my three small children and they deserveto be punished. It very hard for people out here and every dollar earned we work way too hard for to be getting riped off!
