Paying for Nothing
Was approved for Overdraft Protection in March, but decided against paying the fee since I was already having trouble using the other “features” and it didn’t feel worth it at the time.
Should have just trusted my gut, because when I decided to give it another chance and pay the fee for this month, turns out I was paying for MARCH since an “Invoice was generated” AFTER I was approved for Overdraft.
Now it doesn’t appear that I’ll be getting a refund and I can’t even access the app at all! Just a blue screen so I’m waiting for them to delete my information given that my bank is connected to this awful app.
Just don’t, there are so many other great financial apps that have working features and don’t cost $10 just to be approved to use it.
Pointless if you are looking for a cash advance
It takes your repayment a week to process, and sometimes you can’t take it out again until longer after that. So it helps you for what a few days? Just seems silly that they can send it same day, take it same day. But the repayment pends for a week?

Wow even worse now. It never used to be this slow to for repayment to go thru. A whole week now? And finally it goes thru and I’m able to use again and the instant feature is gone. And used it on the 26th and won’t hit my account till the 6th? What’s the point? I can’t wait to repay so I can never use this app again. $10 a month for this is ridiculous. When you can use apps like Brigit, Albert that charge the same. Or earnin and Moneylion which charge only transfer fees. Negative stars if I could.

I thought I’d try my hand at Gerald so I spent time setting it up and waiting for it to populate. Have it ALL my personal information and in the end… after it was all said and done….

Kind of weird considering it’s an FDIC insured bank used by billions. Not a Funtech app startup but one larger than 90% of those around. PNC, BBVA and others will fail the test. And you’ll get to send tGerald all your info!
So, maybe it works. My guess is not if they can’t simply put up an easy “we work with…l disclaimer.
Ps - Plaid confirmed it’s an app integration. Issue. Meaning - Gerald developers simply haven’t written integrations for quite a few banks. Again, post this info instead of selling outs!
Do not get this app
I downloaded this app thinking I could get a cash advance… I ended up paying them 9.99 and not able to access the “over draft to cash” feature. I keep getting an error message “transaction failed from Network”… so now I’m trying to cancel because it’s not what I expected and now I’m down $10 when I came to the app for help. I have been speaking with the virtual agent who keeps asking me for screen shots so they can fix it when I have told him numerous times I don’t want it fixed I want my money back. Do not get this app if you are in need or fast cash or down to your last. I will be writing a review on every platform and will let everyone who listens know this is horrible customers service. All I want is a refund and we all know it take 5-10 days for the average refund.
Issues accessing overdraft funds
The first time I use the app it was fairly easy and I was able to access the overdraft quickly. However, I recently tried to use the app again and it approve me for an amount of overdraft. However, I have attempted to convert the overdraft the cash and send it to my debit card about six times now and it says that it’s in the works every single time. I contacted support and they told me that it’s a new thing to be able to transfer to a debit card. They said that other users are having the same issues and it’s being worked on. The suggestion I was given was to convert my overdraft to cash which I try to explain, was exactly what I was trying to do over and over again but it is working. So at this point, I guess I cannot access the overdraft that I was approved for because it won’t transfer anywhere for me to use it.
Underrated app, but decent
After I thought that I have downloaded all of the payday loan, or cash advance apps. I found this one which I never heard of. The first time I used it was pretty simple but then overtime it kind of got frustrating and every time I needed to request access I had to contact support. The downside of this is that everything is linked to a bank account and not a card so the processing time for you to have access to the money you sometimes have to wait. I also do not like the process to pay back the funds. It’s also linked through a bank account and it’s not instant. It also says you can link up an account through Venmo or cash app or PayPal, but it doesn’t really make sense when you can only see the routing and account number from the Gerald side. I think a recommendation for this app would be an instant transfer and more use of debit cards.
UPDATE: Customer Support is awesome
This is an update to my earlier review. After much contact and helpful communication from the help desk and their engineers my issue was successfully resolved. I appreciate the customer support staff and their communication. They kept me in the loop on the process of resolving my issue. Yes it was frustrating but they went above to correct the issue.
This app was helpful until it wasn’t. Some how the app dropped my bank account and is making me jump thru impossible hoops to add it back. It shows I have been granted over draft protection but my connected bank is not showing and I am unable to add it back. I have reported the issue several times and still nothing is being done about it. I am prompted repeatedly to enter a verification code that is never sent to me. When I report this issue I am told that it is impossible for me to not have received the verification code.

So the only thing that really works on this app is GERALD TAKING PEOPLE MONEY… with no REAL financial assistance …… I don’t understand when I signed up GERALD had no problem deducting the fees for membership. Now I’m actually trying to use your service & every day error messages. This how GERALD does business & operates taking advantage of people in need? you advertise that the overdraft protection is available to use during emergencies and now here I have been trying to cash out overdraft fees to my bank account FOR THE LAST WEEK! and it’s saying please connect your bank? My bank info and account number are visible on the app yet it’s still giving me the error message. Also, where would you re add the bank info? As there is no option to do so. Complete waste of time
This is a very fraudulent app. It claims to offer cash advances with no mention of tasks (offers) that must be completed before you can qualify. The app forces users to link bank data before making it known what app really is. Once you link data they tell you they have no way to cancel or delete account. I had to change both user name and password of my bank to ensure that this app didn’t have access to it. The customer service was practically nonexistent, only a chat bot that would allow one sentence statements that looped back to verify users email. When I did reach a Customer support rep they told me there is no way to delete or cancel once you sign up so beware to users. They also advised that if I was unable to sign in to wait 3 days and try again .
I was unable to log in at all using chrome desktop, the app safari mobile. It’s very disturbing that Apple allows them on platform and I would caution any user to not be tricked into linking bank data with this or their sister company paperclip.
Fraudulent Membership Fee
On 10/17/2022, my access to the overdraft protection feature was revoked. I was "waitlisted" for access to the feature, even though I had already used it twice. The overdraft protection feature is part of the suite of features given to users who subscribe to the premium service for $9.99 per month.
On that same date, at 10:47 P.M. CT, I received a notification from Gerald saying I would not be charged the monthly premium fee. However, on the morning of 10/18/2022, I was charged $9.99 for the monthly premium. I contacted Gerald support and spoke to Mark.
He stated the charge was for premium membership from 9/17 - 10/17. However, I already paid $9.99 for membership on 9/17. Mark refused to refund
the $9.99 that was charged on 10/18, even though they stated it was for a billing period for which I already paid, I had received a notification saying I would not be charged, and I was unable to
access the overdraft protection service that customers are supposed to receive when subscribed to the premium service.
Worst cash advance app EVER (DO NOT INQUIRE)
Support team and the developers do not care at all. They take it as a joke. They will send you an automated response. Which most likely be under this review as well. “Please contact our support team and they will be more than happy to assist you.” LOL please do better if you’re gonna run a so called “business” more like a scheme.. well you came to Gerald for a cash advance.. oh you sure will get one, but within 2-3 weeks.. you have to pay for the premium membership and once you deactivate your membership they will not let you delete your account. It says it will take 30 day to delete your account but it won’t happen. They’re lousy and slow with everything they do. You can contact their support team which is probably one of the lousiest teams you will ever come across. They are in no help what so ever. They also keep transferring money from my main bank account to the Gerald bank without my authorization. They’re just making it inconvenient for me to cancel my account. Don’t be fooled. Please stay away from this App! Take your business elsewhere. You won’t regret it!
Customer service does not help
Final update: After a few weeks of trying to contact Gerald due to an error in their system. I was offered assistance and asked to update my review after the issue was finally resolved. As promised this is an updated review of my experience. The idea of the app is good but the customer service needs to be revisited.
Update: while your team has responded after three weeks of trying to contact them, the issue has not been resolved. I assured your team as soon as the issue is resolved I would update my review. I can still not move money to the app to pay the balance but was told it would automatically process tomorrow. If this is the case tomorrow I will be happy to update my review. Thank you.
Their customer service does not reply to you. They have bots that send the same generic messages over and over but do not actually help you. I have been trying to contact customer service for 3 weeks. My repayment was scheduled for September 30th and still has not processed because it says there is an error. I have emailed the support team 3 times now in the last three weeks with no reply!
No refund policy
Update to the response: I did send an email on the same day I wrote this review which was on Thursday. You know who received my email? The person who I chatted with through the app when I originally asked for the refund. His response was the same…no refund. He even asked me for a screenshot of the 2 to 7 day funding time. When I went back in to screenshot, the timeframe said 5 to 7 days so it changed! I sent the screenshot and for what? Nothing. He had me send it for nothing. His response to the screenshot that he asked for was, well we still don’t give refunds.
I paid the $9.99 membership and when I proceeded to transfer out the advance, it said I would receive it within 2 to 7 business days. This is absolutely not helpful so I did not transfer and sent a request for the membership refund. I received a response back that refunds are not provided and I agreed to the terms and conditions. The terms and conditions do not state the transfer timeframe so now Gerald has my $9.99 for doing nothing. Either fix your terms or have the 2 to 7 business day notification before the payment for membership is made. Rip off.
Possibly the worst app
I’ve been struggling for weeks to get my account closed or at least unlink my bank account from the app since I have not actually used the apps benefits. I’ve been charged a fee for the services and my account continues to be open. When I initially signed up I thought I would be using it but after encountering countless of technical errors and fallouts I knew that the hassle was not worth the the services provided, i. e very limited amount of services provided. Well what do you know? It’s almost impossible to do anything on the app without it force closing or crashing. Support is non existent. I have emailed the “support team” twice with weeks going by and no response. When you are in the app and try to reach out to chat support you get the same “unavailable” message. It’s almost like it’s done on purpose to prevent you from canceling. It’s probably been one of the most frustrating part of my week. Anyways, I’ve reached out to Apple, working hard to submit enough feedback to hopefully get this app removed from the App Store all together. I believe that Apple has a policy on ethical business practices & unfortunately this app does not align with that.
Scam
If I could rate a negative star I would. I took one advance, and thought I could pay it off quicker by transferring money before the due date, honest mistake. It double withdrew my account, and on the Gerald card it has $59.60 that supposedly I could transfer back to my account. It has been over two weeks without being able to transfer my near $60 back to my account. I have contacted support daily multiple times, with no progress. Same responses with sometimes broken English, no real answers as to why I am unable to transfer my money back or why they can not refund me. Their customer “support” is a joke, and I am really doubting if I will ever get my $60 back or if they are just hoarding it for laughs. Sometimes it won’t even let me log back in to the app, and gives me an error. They just ask for screenshots and say they have given it to their engineering team and I’ll get an update. No updates are ever given. Do not use! They will not even refund you if you sign up and don’t even use the advance features. They do not care and will give you no real answers. I wish I hadn’t used this app as a last resort because it’s not worth it and I have probably lost $60 of my own money to these scammers.
Don’t waste you time
I really should’ve read the reviews before I downloaded this app because this app might be on the list of worst apps I have ever used. The very first time I used it I thought it was going to be simple. Even the first payback was simple. Within the times after that, they want to tell me it takes 1-3 business days for for payback, but then it could take up to 3 to 5 business days OR SOMETIMES LONGER. Which doesn’t include holidays or weekends. I understand the exclusion of holiday is the weekends, but when I’m telling you, my bank says the funds have been released and they have not been rejected how are you going to tell me that you still haven’t received the funds? Then, when I tried to cancel my account, because let’s face that I want nothing to do with this app ever again, I’m told that I can’t cancel my account until the funds have been cleared. Even when I send a screenshot from my bank showing you got the payment has been released you’re telling me you still don’t have a payment? How does that make sense? then, of course, there is no number to call to speak to a live representative. You can only speak via email or chat and the people on the chat could not be any less helpful. This app and everything to do with it, the employees especially are a joke.
Frustrated with there service
I have been using this app for several months and every thing worked fine. Up until last week I was over charged 3 times. After going back and forth with customer service I was finally refunded. After that I was unable to use my overdraft. I contacted there support again and was told there is an error in there system and I would be updated as soon as it’s resolved. Days go by and no update except when I reach out and am told over and over that that there engineers are aware of the issue. One of there support reps advised me to un connect my bank account and reconnect it and for days now there system won’t connect. I am told every day that it is a high priority and I will get an update. I am extremely frustrated as I am about to billed again for a service I can’t use. Update So after reaching out to support numerous times for two weeks straight still no help. All I get is replies our engineers are working on it and I will be notified. They had no problem charging me twice two weeks ago but now when I need my overdraft I am approved for I still can’t get the issue resolved. On top of that I was charged for my subscription today. So most definitely a scam to get as many people to cough up $10, force you to remain a member and (according to all the reviews) never actually give you an advance/assistance. Of course it takes 2-3 months to verify, just enough to make you pay $20-30 before getting advance. Trash.

I was seriously in need of like $50 to buy some groceries for my kids because I’m still a week away from payday. Not even once did the app ever show anything that described that what they give is an overdraft protection amount that can ONLY be used towards bills. You have to connect your bill providers. That is of no help to me. I paid the $9.99 to make my account premium to convert the $58 to cash but now it’s going to take up to 3-7 days for it to hit my account. So no help at all. Thanks a lot Gerald. I do not recommend this service at all.

Really getting Annoyed
I have been using this app for awhile now. Yes, it has been helpful somewhat, but the fact it takes almost a week for a deposit to go through is unacceptable. Funds used to be deposited within days. They tell me it’s my bank but that’s complete nonsense. I love how the $9.99 fee can come out immediately but a deposit takes an eternity. You guys really need to fix this. So many new app updates, still unresolved issues
It’s going to be 2 weeks that my overdraft account shows $0.00, after having an approval of an overdraft advance. I have chatted with reps and they have stated the same thing “Engineers are working on it”. They kept giving me a time line of 48 hours to a week. Nothing has changed. On top of that, Gerald app has charged me the $9.99 subscription fee. Now, knowing that there’s an issue and I still as of yet have not received the advance I was approved of, I get charged. They should’ve waived the fee! But all I get are apologies. Apologies do not pay my bills.

Horrible
I used this one and I really didn’t know what I was doing, because the app is not user friendly. I’ve repaid my balance on the overdraft protection and now I’m trying to cancel my account. I have looked everywhere in the app to cancel (most companies have that option in settings) and unfortunately can’t find it. I am disappointed in how this app portrays themselves of “we are here to help”; however, when you need help you can’t get any. I normally try to leave at last 2 stars even for bad service, but I can’t with this company, so 1 it is. I just want to cancel my account.

Tried to use this for a quick cash advance. Paid the extra fee, no where did it disclose that it takes 1-3 days for that to be available. Once my payment was accepted, they had me verify my debit card again so that the cash advance could process and I get an error my bank is not supported. They refuse to refund me the premium fee even tho they didn’t disclose this until after charging me. I have never dealt with such terrible and unprofessional customer service. So now I have to dispute the charge with my bank since services weren’t rendered and details were no provided. ♀️

ZERO STARS!
I was charged $9.99 in October for a “monthly membership fee” even though they have completely taken my access away from MY account and I can’t log in! Meaning I can’t even log in to delete my payment information or delete my account to avoid being charged again! I’ve been going back and forth with their sorry excuse of customer service for over two weeks demanding a refund and all I ever get told is “our engineering team is working on it” or “we’ll follow up when we have more information.” This has been the absolute worst experience I’ve ever had with customer service with an app!

It was good until it wasn’t
I’ve been using this app for months. Never had a problem until today. It took the repayment I owed which is fine and then all of a sudden I get an email saying to reconnect my bank. I go to the app but my bank was never disconnected and then all of sudden I’m added to the waitlist (mind you I’ve been using the app for months). Then it says oh we won’t charge you the monthly fee (however I’ve been charged $9.99 on 12/14/22. I’m so disappointed because it was working and now all of a sudden I’m added to a waitlist when I shouldn’t be. Refund me my monthly charge so i can deactivate my account please

Pay attention to the other reviews
I figured the bad reviews were just people whining because they are crybabies, but that’s not the case. Pretty much all the negative reviews are true. They bait you into signing up for a $9.99 mo membership fee which they debit from your bank immediately. They gave me access to $58 (with a $2.99 fee). I got the cash , paid it back on its due date. 8 days later it still shows my “wallet” at minus $58 even though it says my loan was paid off 8 days ago. So no access to further cash. So I paid $13 in fees for a $58 loan that I got for 10 days. This is a very sketchy, borderline fraudulent app. Stay away!

It’s Okay
This app is great when it actually works. Payments take. Long time to clear and then it says you’ve been approved for overdraft when nothing shows up for days. First few times were good but lately, it’s more hassle than useful. I will say the customer service folks are as helpful and kind as they can be. Just too bad the app doesn’t ever really work all the time.

HORRIBLE
This by far one of the worst apps I have ever used. EVERY 2-3 weeks I have an issue with this app. The Live Chat customer service team is awful! They literally don’t help, they just tell you what you already know. My subscription was canceled without my doing and nobody could provide an explanation and instead continuously blamed me for it. It’s been one issue after the other with them. Do not waste your time with this app, the payback process takes FOREVER as well. The customer service team doesn’t really want to help and instead makes you fell stupid or dumb for asking a question in the first place. Horrible app

Useless
Just when I thought I had tried all the cash advance apps, I stumbled upon this one which seemed to have some pretty cool features. But its been a buggy mess since the start and when I finally got it to let me use the “overdraft protection” (cash advance) it repaid the cash advance a week sooner than it originally said it was going to and subsequently overdrafted my real bank account. After this happened it dropped my eligibility to $10. I don’t think I need to tell anyone that $10 barely gets you anything these days. Immediately cancelled the subscription and deleted the app. I’ll go back to the apps that don’t borderline scam you.

Don’t do it
I don’t recommend anyone use this app. They make it seem like you get some sort of a cash advance when the reality is you can’t use the money instantly and you have to wait days. You also get approved for a very low amount in the first place so it’s really just not worth it. I opened and canceled my account the very same day and they refused to refund me my 9.99 subscription fee. It also takes 30 days for them to delete your account which is absolutely ridiculous. I just don’t recommend this type of service to anyone. I would definitely use something like Earnin as they are the best. I just wanted to give this one a try and I regret it

Super Confusing
I downloaded this apps and it messed up several times while I was simply trying to create an account. Then when it finally created it, I was told I was approved for overdraft. Then it kept saying I could use overdraft but NEVER explained how. I had to keep searching to find out how to use it and then it said I can convert to cash if I upgrade to premium which I reluctantly did for $9.99. After it INSTANTLY took my money, it told me it still takes 1-3 days for them to give me mine! What a joke! I will be deleting this app, there are much more user friendly ones available that don’t con you out of $10 and give you your money instantly.

Scam
I do not recommend using this app. Attempting to add my bank was a nightmare. Then, when that was finally handled, I initiated a withdrawal from overdraft and when I checked to see what was going on with it several days later, nothing had been moved or initiated at all. You also cannot remove your debit card even if you add another card (can’t change it from “default”), and there’s no way to cancel service. I tried changing from paid to free membership, but it instead just paused my membership and with the reason being that money is owed. THERE IS NO MONEY OWED, NOTHING HAS EVEN BEEN MOVED. Terrible app, it’s just a scam to get membership fees. There are tons of better apps out there for this type of service.

One Star
The app needs revamping, it’s unclear what you’ve been approved for with the overdraft since they approve you then suddenly you’re on the “overdraft waitlist”, and it’s also unclear when and how you pay it back. There’s no easy way to reach support and the moment they can’t pull your $9.99 subscription fee, your overdraft is revoked. Most companies tell the customer ahead of time when their subscription payment will renew, and you’re also given a few options to pay back what you’ve used from the overdraft. This app looks more like someone slapped it together and doesn’t care how it works or what the customer is aware of, and frankly for $60 in overdraft, a $9.99 subscription fee is a little steep. Pretty bad experience thus far.

It’s not actually a cash advance app. They wanted me to spend $40 on their over priced junk at their corner store in order to get a $40 cash advance? So spend $80 and get a $40 advance that you have to repay + fees.

I have provided Gerald with enough time to revoke my automatic withdrawals. It states in their terms that I can do this with them anytime. please see attached terms. i have highlighted it, also the conversations stating cannot revoke with them only my bank which i am not paying my bank $35 to do so!
