Bye Critter
I ordered 6 Bye Critter devices ([protected], [protected]) on 11/17/222 totaling $142.94. I discovered on 6/2/23 that 4 of the 6 devices are no longer working (i.e. the green light is no longer on). And today (6/16/23) another one quite working. To ensure it wasn’t a receptacle failure, I tried each of them in different receptacle with no better results.
I dug out by receipt and called Customer Service on 6/2/23 to be told that the return period had ended. This is very disappointing. A product that costs approximately $25 each, should reasonably last longer than approximately 6 months! So I wrote a letter and have yet to get a response.
I’m not really interested in a replacement product because if it only lasts another 6 months, I’m going to be in the same situation once again. But I do see from the website they have a 3 year warranty, but I have to pay the shipping to send them back.
Desired outcome: I’m requesting at least a 50-75% refund.

Signed up on Monday, 17 April 2023, Account #: 1119211
Your service was supposed to start Monday afternoon 17 April 2023 or Tuesday morning, 18 April 2023
Critter Control's attempt to fulfill your contract started on Wednesday, 19 April 2023 around 11:15 a.m. when your representative placed a trap (after I said that a one-way door may be one solution: however, there is no way that Critter Control can show that the pest, skunk, had been removed, no way that you could prove that you did anything except get money from us.)
Your representative returned on Thursday, 20 April 2023 at 11:57 a.m. His work order report said - "Today I removed the trap with nothing captured. I then placed a one-way door over the entry point to the den which will allow the animals to leave but they will be unable to return. I also sprayed a liquid repellent around the home and den site. I will return next week to check for new activity but if you have any questions or concerns please call or text me at [protected]."
The one-way door is NOT a solution. Putting a strip of blue masking tape across the exit to show that the skunk has been removed allows Critter Control to say, "the skunk is gone", take my money and have done nothing. This is an appalling business practice, in my mind, unethical and possibly illegal.
Please CANCEL MY CONTRACT with Critter Control, return my money, and remove your one-way door. Your attempt to fulfill your contract did not begin until yesterday, 19 April 2023.
vole control in garen
I hired Critter Control of Olympia to get rid of voles in my garden. After spending $700 and receiving 10 treatments, the vole population is worse than when they started, wiping out my asparagus and rhubarb plants. I was told by the owner that their warranty doesn't apply to me. So much for satisfaction guarantee. They are scammers. Promise you the moon only to make the situation worse.
Desired outcome: I would like a full refund and an apology for the lies they told me.

Bat Exclusion
I scheduled Critter Control to come to my home to give me an estimate on bat exclusion in my attic. The technician was scheduled to be at my home at 5:30 and by 6:00 had still not shown up. I called several times to find out if they were still coming and finally around 6:30 someone called me to say they were running behind and would be there shortly. The technician showed up a few minutes later and provided me with the estimate. I paid the deposit of $189 and scheduled the work to be done a few weeks later. The day of the scheduled work came and again they were late. I called several times again and never got a live person to talk to. Finally, 5 hours later someone called me to let me know the technician was involved in an accident and they would not be making the scheduled appointment. I had asked why I wasn't contacted sooner and they had no real answer. At this time I lost all confidence in the company and had asked that the work be cancelled and my deposit refunded. They agreed to send the check back to me at no charge. About a month passed by and I never received the deposit check back. A week later, the check was cashed by Critter Control. I have been calling several times again in the past week and have been told I will get a call back or get no answer at all. This company does not follow up with customers and has very poor service.
rip off
We were experiencing some noises in our attic and we decided to call Critter Control. The company sent one guy that visually inspect the exterior of the house without using any ladder or getting in the crawling space . Inside of the house he open the access to the attic and left one rat trap (one that you can buy anywhere for $8) The guy told us that he will come back to ckeck if there was a rat. Three days latter came back saw no rat and said we did not have issues. We were under the impression that they would provide alternatives and those actions were part of a free estimate. However, the guy asked my wife (alone at home with a baby) that she had to pay $200. My wife argued with the guy but felt intimidated and pay because he was getting aggressive. We called the company and said that was a normal fee, but we never agreed on that or signed anything or were informed. Conclusion: they did not solve our issue or even investigated it properly and took advantage of a woman alone with a baby. It is your choice if you want to deal with this people but we are just attonish that we experienced this situation with a large company.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
October 2020, we called Critter Control to helpus adress a Squirrel problem. WEe got a visit from som eome named Julian Reyes, who seemed very personable and knowledgeable, He wrote up an estimate for ridding us of the Squirrels which am, ountred to $ 2000.00 ! Yes, m you nread that right. TWO THOUSAND !. Natually I thought their process would be quite elaborate and complete for a price like that. My mistake was signing the contract because they were neither knowledgable or professional. As follows :
1. the first day rthey sent out a young man who, first of all, was not wearing a mask on my property. I mhad to insist that any time he or anyone else is on my property, because or Covid 19 threar, a mask is requiiured. He then puit one on.
2. Their ' sanitizing ' process consisted or walkikng around with a little spray tank spraying the ground. He said he did go in the crawl space butb I doubt his treatment helped.
3. When he went on the roof to screen off " ALL ' vents as per con tract, I went up later to find he screened two out of the 5 or 6 vents up there. Plus, on the main chimney stack, his work was extyremely sloppy with some uglyn black caulking everywhere. Later when I asked him about the rest of the screening, he said he ran out of screening ands would finish up the next day. When I asked him about some details of the con tract wording, he said he had NO IDEA WHAT THE CONTRACT SAID AND HAD NEVER SEEN IT ! IT Was then that I realized that this company basically had NO quality control or supervision over a totally inexperienced worker. I have been a licensed General Contractor for 37 years in CA and I know when a worker has no idea of how to do the job. He did tell me that he was new on the job. I do not fault him. I DO fault the Critter Control Company.
4. I callede costomer service for the company and complained and said I derserved some refund from their $ 2000 totyal rip off price. They, of course apologized and saiod someone would be contactinmg me about this. Of course, no one ever contacted me. Then worst part is they did not rid us of the Squirred problem. The little green containers, whjich they put three around the property, I CAN BUY AT MY LOCAL HARDWARE STORE FOR ABOUT $10 EACH AND A JAR OF SQUIRREL POISON FOR THE SAME. THIS IS NOT WORTH $ 2000, , , NO WAY !
5. I WILL BE SURE TO YELP A BAD REVIEW ON THNIS COMPANY
6 If you are tjhinking about hiring these guys, , think again
This is horrible. Is there anything you can do at all to make the company answer for their belligerent behavior?
Hire someone else besides this terrible company for your pest problems
We hired Critter Control to trap a nest of raccoons behind our property to safeguard our cats. The man who came out, Rob, was SO nice...very personable, very informed and spent a long time with me explaining their procedures, what our duties are and what to do if we catch an animal or if the bait goes missing and the trap didn't catch the animal.
You must sign a 30 day contract with them that is $199 for setting the traps and then it is $59 for them to take away unwanted animals. We did catch a squirrel who ate all the bait, but when they didn't come out to release the poor animal after 24 hours (they stipulate that all unwanted animals or missing bait or a closed trap will be fixed within 24 hours of you calling in before 8:30am each day, including Xmas and other holidays) we released it, even though that is breaking some kind of rule. But if there is a squirrel trapped in the trap then how is the raccoon going to get in?
However, this is not the case with this bunch of crooks. We called them over and over when we noticed that the bait was missing, thereby nullifying the effectiveness of the trap, and it took them 4 (FOUR!) days to come back out and re-bait the traps. The bait was instantly stolen right away and we called them again (today is our 10th day with them) and they still have not come out to re-bait the traps, and WE ARE STILL BEING CHARGED!
I called them a week ago and asked to speak to a manager, and a week went by, no phone call. So I called them today, completely irate with them and fired them. According to the contract Rob, the very nice technician who lied to me and told me that he explained everything in the contract and all I had to do was sign this and initial that and we were good to go. And I believed him...so I signed.
Well, somewhere, hidden amongst all of their legal mumbo-jumbo is a stipulation that the contract cannot be broken (Rob, the very nice technician who so carefully explained everything to me forgot to mention that) but they broke the contract by ignoring our pleas to come out and re-bait the traps. The stupid girl in the office (Brittany~~why are all girls named Brittany so stupid?) promised to have someone who has authority to "make decisions" would call me right back...and I waited a week, and they never called. So I called her after a week and asked her why she never had anyone call me, and she said that they had someone call from the office and talk to my husband. Well, my husband didn't sign the contract, nor did he pay for the service, so why did they call him? I don't know...but he's a soft touch (someone has to be the $#*! in the family or nothing would ever get done, right?) and they soothe-said something to him along the lines that raccoons will smell where the bait USED to be and just walk into the trap without actual bait. If that is true, then why bait the traps at all? And it was made very clear to us that Washington State forbids the handling of wildlife, so we aren't allowed to touch the traps at all. I guess if they read this they will know that we let a squirrel out of the trap... but I'm willing to take that chance.
Raccoons are super smart. They don't walk willingly into unbaited traps. Raccoons are WAAAAAY smarter than Brittany. This company should be avoided at all costs. I did use the Seattle (Kent...but no one has ever heard of Kent) WA franchise, so maybe other franchises are run better, but I'm not going to call the Boston franchise and have them service me.
Hire someone else besides this terrible company for your pest problems.
And... just for fun: I saw a quote from Tina Fey a couple of months ago where she said "$#*!es get $#*! done". I am a very nice person...until I am lied to and pushed around. But with a devious company like Critter Control, my inner Tina Fey comes out...and I wave the flag proudly.
Unprofressional and inhumane
So a feral cat gave birth to kittens in our attic, in which some of the kittens were falling into our kitchen ceiling, the fire dept was gracious to help us out. We don't own any pets, so this is new to us. We were referred to Critter Control to see if they would trap the kittens. So Critter Control came out and first sealed up the hole outside on our roof near the attic and then put traps up in the attic. Mamma cat escaped. Since that day, we have been hearing meowing/scratching within the walls.
Then a kitten fell into our garage somehow and was stuck in a 2 inch space between the furnace and the wall. The one that fell into our garage is about 5 weeks old, we were able to get it out. I have been checking everyday and there are no kittens in the traps that Critter Control set. Then we saw one kitten on the roof, so whew, they are alive. I called asking for a refund, they came out again and set traps near the chimney. It was found that the kittens broke through the second screen, which Critter Control stated it was rusty and weak. You would have thought that they would checked this with the first inspection.
I was referred to Critter Control by friends who were customers. Their experience in the past was that the company came out, set traps first to capture the animals and then sealed up all the holes later. I am not sure why this was done backwards? Sealing the first hole without luring them out first just puts the kitttens at further risk, inhumane. For $350, I find it inappropriate to seal the hole first with the kittens trapped inside. (we didn't even know initially how young they were, so trapping them may just deprived them from nursing from their mother).
We ended up contacting a cat rescue group who did wonders in helping us removing the kittens from our attic. The kittens now are doing great and are adoptable, but if too much time would have passed, they wouldn't have been. Critter Control did absolutely nothing but collect our $350, leave traps and then left. Even the traps they left near the chimney, they came by and took them without telling us. I thought we got robbed. You think they would have at least called to notify us, or ask us on how else they can help us retrieve the kittens. When I called to ask for a refund, they stated that they were a business, it costs them to come out and in quotes "those kittens would have gone towards our traps if no one else was messing with it". We are very thankful that we were referred to a cat rescue group, otherwise we would not know what to do, Critter Control did not help. I would not recommend at least this branch to anyone, their practices appear inhumane towards the kittens and unprofressional towards their customers.
nice to know that some people do the right thing regarding animals ... thanks for caring
We hired Critter Control to come trap rats living under our shed under a 3 week contract. He set traps in the shed. Despite our phone calls he did not come back for a week. 3 rats rotted in the shed, got fly larva, fell apart, and now we have dead rat fluid and maggots on the floor of the shed. The exterminator came after a week and wanted to leave without cleaning up the mess on the shed floor. He reluctantly agreed to wipe it up after I asked him. Next time, I'll just buy my own traps and save $420 of aggravation.

I bout 5 and 2 of them stopped working after 2 months, they will not refund buyer beware.
The same exact thing happened to me. I ordered the set of 5 and they all stopped working within 6 months. I emailed customer service and they offered no resolve since 30 days had passed. I will be sure to advise others to avoid this poorly made product. Sadly I wasted $145.
Turns out you have to purchase the warranty to get a replacement. Of course I did not, so I'm completely out the money too.
