This well known car rental company kicks it's customers when they are down! After having her purse stolen while out of town (car key included), if that wasn't devastating enough, listen how hard this company tried to help this customer. She was told that not only did they not have another key to the car (B.S.), but she would be charged not only to replace the key, but to change all the locks on the car. I had rented an Avis car online before I left for Liberia, Costa Rica. When we arrived at the Avis office, the two male emplyees took a long time drawing up the agreement for meto sign, then after some discussion in Spanish, they put an X through it and wrote up another without providing any explanation. Thenew agreement charged me double what I had agreed to online. The real deal breaker was when they wanted meto sign a BLANK agreement to pay whatever charges they would bring against me to the car listed on the paper. This was blank. I rented a car for a conference. The care broke down on me. I called Avis. They sent a tow company but they did not show up for almost 3 hours. Then when they brought me a new car, it was pitch black outside so i could not check it for liabilities. They went to the wrong hotel intitally and were calling me continuously saying they were out front...they were at the wrong place. A tow company thats contracted through Avis showed up. They were carrying guns. I am sure it is for their own protection but it was alittle unnerving to me. They dropped the car off and left...not much interraction at all.

I rented a car at Alicante Airport from Avis through Monarch airlines. The first car offered was rejected as it stank of tobacco /pipe smoke. I was presented with choice of a further two cars that had just been returned from rental but had to wait for them to be cleaned. I didn't thoroughly check the replacement car as I was more concerned about the smell of the interior. Two weeks later the clutch went on the car and Avis sent out a replacement car on a breakdown truck. I don't speak Spanish but the truck driver gave me the impression that he understiood that the fuel tank was half full...

I rented a car from AVIS LAX via internet.
I realized that Avis charged some extras from my credit card. I did not want any extra insurance and equipment. At the counter, assistant tried to sell many extra options to me more than 30 minutes. It was so annoying, and I was so bored that I told exactly "I do not want anything else except what I bought from internet. Please just give me my car". Otherwise why would he warn me and ask whether I understood the risk! If he made those extra insurances, he made it without my consent.

I rented an Avis car after my car was in an accident. 1) After being paid $877.36 by my insurance company, Avis billed me for $157.36, claiming the insurance company only paid $720. 2) $82.51 of the charge was for an "airport fee". I did not pick up or deliver the car at an airport. 3) Later, I was billed $52.25 for Avis eToll. I never authorized, activated, or used Avis eToll. Avis customer service was unresponsive....

Tried to call the local location for two days, always redirected to the toll free number. Could not reach a human. Finally googled the location and walked a mile down there, Inquired about the phone situation, response "yea we've known about that" meanwhile some who appeared not be with the company was behind the counter on the phone. I suspect it is just easier to forward the calls than to have to do your job.

By the way, no cars of any kind available on a Tuesday morning (12 JAN)with no major events going on in town, something about cars in for mx. Not can we get...

Had to get a rental car at the last minute due to a funeral out of town. A family member pre-paid for the rental on priceline on their card. When arriving at avis i knew there was going to be a $200 hold put on my card seperate from what was paid and that was fine. The lady at the counter went thru all the upgrade and fuel options and i told her more than once that i didnt want what wasnt already paid for since i dont use my debit card. Rental Agreement #: 131476531.

2 Day Unlimited Miles SUV Rental returned with a full tank and 1 hour late.

I was charged $1, 196.02 ... that's unconscionable enough.

There has also been a "Hold" on my bank account for the amounts of $429.12 and $430.00 since March 27th.

That brings the total charge to $2, 055.14; for a 2 day car rental.

Rest assured, not only will this will pursued to the fullest extent allowable by law, but I will post this information on every message board I can find on the Internet....

Two weeks ago, on our trip to Europe, we rented a car from Avis at the Munich airport. Upon receiving the car, the paperwork showed no damage. The cars are picked up a fair distance from the desk in a poorly-lit multistory garage. There is no attendant at the location you pick up the car. We walked around the car and it looked fine. We returned it back a week later and within 15-seconds of us stopping, the lady who received the car identified a chip on the windshield. The chip is the size of tip of a ball-point pen. 2) $82.51 of the charge was for an “airport fee”. I did not pick up or deliver the car at an airport.

Has this happened to anyone else? I’m seriously considering looking at filing a class action. I rented a car from Avis through Hotwire, and when I went to the counter, the agent kept trying to “up sell” me on everything but I said no. When she was going through the options, she either showed me on the form how much the insurance would be and I said no that’s ok, and then she gave me the form to initial.

This was the worst experience ever! No wonder that Avis is the underdog and will most likely go out of business soon. I hear that they have so many lawsuits against them. Avis teaches their associates to cheat customers into signing the rental agreement, and charge outragous prices on upgrades, insurance and gps and roadside. People, you must read your contracts and don't sign if you don't understand. Keep all your papers to know what daily rates are and weekly rates. I recently were on a business trip to San Jose CA and I rented car from AVis at the airport. I rented it for two days. Upon returning the rental car, I was shocked that the guy who checked the car said that there is a scratch on the bumper ( at the lower portion) so I am liable for it. To keep it short, my family went to florida on spring break. Rented from AVIS, didn't get the car we rented and had to rent a step up costing $100 more. Upon our return was charged $140 for having sand in the car. We went to the beach twice and each time showered our feet before getting back into the car...bottom line don't rent AVIS CARS. EVER....
