For years my wife and I, occasionally have purchased croissants, large and small size, from the above GE bakery, and they were wonderful. Recently, we have purchased the large size, twice, and both times we have been greatly dissatisfied. The previous croissants were flaky and buttery, as they should be, but the recent ones were doughy and bready. They taste and feel like regular white bread not like the flaky pastry known the world over. You must have changed something, like a supplier or recipe.
Whatever you did, please undo it.
Desired outcome: Go back to what you used to do.
It is a month later. I have not heard from Giant Eagle, not even an acknowledgment of my complaint, as if I was ignored. Actually I am being ignored. Also, nothing has changed. The large croissants still feel and taste like Wonder Bread, soft, and doughy, not flaky and buttery as they should be and used to be. They are so substandard even some of the local staff are embarrassed to sell them.
The croissants used to be some of the best I ever had from a grocery bakery. Please, reverse whatever you have done. Contact the Butler Moraine baker and ask about this.
Additionally, the non-corporate, local owners, for the last few years are abusing their authority, filling the store with substandard produce, some baked goods, and groceries. They are embarrassing Giant Eagle. If we need to travel somewhere, for unassociated reasons, we try to include grocery shopping. If I were you, I would be ashamed to read this and to know some others are reading it.
