I went to the Cub Foods in Duluth, MN, on a weekend, around 9:00 a.m. or so. I had perhaps only several items and got right into a self service checkout lane and proceeded to ring up my groceries. I noticed there was a female customer waiting in line as two of the checkout stations apparently were inoperable this weekend day.
Well, I was checking out and I get the "check bag," computer message, or something like that, which means I cannot proceed until a clerk comes and "fixes" it or whatever. So there I am standing with two items to be checked out, and the clerk, with whom I am a little familiar with and thought from that one other incident to be rude, goes a couple lanes down from self service and opens up a new checkout lane for this woman who had been waiting.
I then asked the clerk in the regular checkout lane where the other clerk went that I needed her to fix my register. He tells me rudely I would have to wait as she was busy with another customer, who BTW, was after me in line and had more items than I did. I told him she was working self service and now I needed assistance. He was extremely rude to me and by his behaving thusly, subjected me to ridicule from customers he was waiting on.
So there I was waiting, and finally the rude male clerk came over and cleared my machine so I could finish checking out, which took all of 3 seconds to accomplish.
I usually go to self service checkout and when I have had a number of items, NEVER have I had any clerk check me out nor open a new lane and then proceed to check me out. So does this chick who did not have to wait AT ALL in the self service lane, despite originally going there, does she own the freakin' store?
I will not be returning to Cub if it means I will starve, I will not go back for a long time, due to your exorbitant prices and your Very. Rude. Employees. This incident was the last straw!
Your store is terrible!
BTW, I also feel this incident was discriminatory, as this white, younger female was given preferential treatment over me, a protected class.
Desired outcome: Those workers should be subjected to retraining in customer service and be put in other positions where they will be supervised.
Cub Foods - Beth (cashier) Duluth, MN
While I was at the checkout register Beth was very rude. She held up her hand and told me to wait until the customer had been rung up before I could put my groceries on the conveyor belt. I felt it was said in a demeaning tone as well. The last 3 times that I have been to the store I have had her as a cashier and each time she has been rude. I do not tend to frequent the store as Super One in Kenwood is closer to my house. However I had a gift card from Christmas that I wanted to use. This is the 1st time I have brought this to a manager's attention. As being a public health nurse for Saint Louis County, I am very well aware of the guidelines set in place due to COVID-19 for safety. I feel that if Beth is so concerned about people placing items on the belt before she "allows" them to, maybe she should not be working with the public. Her behavior made me feel "less than" or as a child who needed to be scolded.
My mother has also experienced this cashier and her behavior. Her name is Marilyn Adamski and you are able to contact her if you would like to. [protected].
Thank you.
Desired outcome: Beth to be let go
