Dollar General - Customer relations

On 6/20/2023 approximately 700pm I purchased 3 items at the North Stonington, CT Dollar General. I accidently bought 2 bags of cat food ad an ice cream cone, I meant to buy 2 bags of dry DOG food. I told the cashier and asked her to simply exchange the cat food for dry dog food. Gave her receipt back and placed the items on the shelf. She then went to another worker (male) possibly manager on shift he never identified himself, who then called a manager on the phone, 25 + minutes later, after telling me they need to review the security camera to actually see me return the items! I just told the cashier I placed them back on the shelf and then took 2 bags of dog food right in front of you! And then she never told the other manager on duty I did this because he said this information was not told to him which is not true since she physically went to get him in the back to help her with the exchange at the register after the manager on the phone who was on call, was telling me "in the future we need the items you returned for inventory" as I responded I literally just put the two items back on the shelf the cashier was aware I put them back and 30+ minutes of phone calls and video review were ridiculous and unnecessary as people were lined up behind me witnessing this ridiculous process and unnecessary treatment of a customer. The entire ataff as well as the manager on call was unprofessional and made me feel like I was in the wrong, which I was not. I feel like the entire staff was unprofessional and the managers need more training on how to pleae the customers, not make them feel like they did something wrong where all I was trying to do was put back the product for the cashier and receive my new item. I usually love Dollar General and their products, but I have to say I will never visit this store again because of this experience.

Desired outcome: Finally exchanged product after 40 minutes waiting in store and review on camera and talking on phone with manager.
