Walmart - customer service issues

Walmart Supercenter Store #2777. 13770 W Bell Rd. Surprise, AZ 85374 is a place that many of us residents here in surprise shop, however i have an issue and to my amazement after recently bringing it up with members of my community they have had the same or similar issues. So heres my story...

On July 22, 2010 me, my husband, my 3 week old baby and my mother in law were shopping at the walmart after an hour or so of shopping we got to the baby isle and were looking for a product called "mylicon" its a medication for babies with colic or to help relieve gas so anyway we ask an employee who appeared to be stocking the shelfs and although she was very nice she didn't know where the product was so she said that we could ask as we were checking out as it was probably stored in the back. So we proceeded to the front and since there was no line at the self check out center we decided to use it, (heres where it gets crazy) the lady working the self check out was an older lady and she started out nice as though she wanted to help us, so i proceed to start checking out as my mother in law is talking to the lady who is working the self check out station, my mother in law asks about the "mylicon" but the lady either wasn't listening or was just ignoring her, so the lady walks over to me as I'm ringing things up and accuses me of not ringing up an onion LOL (an onion of all things) and let me tell you all about that briefly I put in the produce code and then put it on the scanner my screen said it was rang up, anyway after about 5 minutes of messing with my screen she decided it WAS rang up (when i get home i realize it was actually rang up TWICE), so i ask her about the "mylicon" and she says that she has to be there to watch me and she cant leave to go get it until her break that is in an hour (so am i supposed to wait at walmart for an hour?) so i ask her if she can call someone to go get it, and she tells me that no, she cant they used to do that but not anymore. so by this time i have a very cranky crying baby and i just want to hurry up and get out of there...I continue ringing up my items and the lady appears to be doing whatever it is she does, when she comes running over to me to tell me that I'm bagging my items wrong (i'm thinking is there a school for bagging?) so i politely listen to her tell me how to bag my items and listen to her lecture me on double bagging ( i get the big cans of tomato juice etc and put 2+ cans in a bag then double bag it) anyway she tells me that I'm doing it wrong so i listen then smile and continue bagging as she walks away, about a minute later she comes back over and asks me if i just want her to do it because she knows "how to do it" i politely decline and at this point i look over at my family and we all exchange a look as we wonder if this lady is nuts, i continue bagging my purchases when about another minute later she says something (because at this point she decided to stand there within less than a foot from me as i rang my purchases up apparently she hasnt heard of personal space) and i look over at her to see what she was saying and she said that i really can't double bag and i need to put as many items in one bag as possible because walmart is having a crisis and trying to conserve bags, (i'm thinking are you serious?) but i politely acknowledge her and say ok, at this point i leave the rest of my items and pay for what i had rang up and leave, So we go to leave and i tell the lady that they shouldnt have those machines if the employees are going to have so many problems with them...(i didnt tell her what i really thought which is that she is crazy). So I get home and get settled feed my baby etc, and after talking it over with my family we decide to call the walmart and speak with a manager so i call walmart and ask for a manager, I speak to "tony" and tell him briefly about what happened he assures me that he will look into the issue and provide that employee with more training if need be, he was very professional. After hanging up i was satisfied that the issue would be addressed however i was talking to be people here in the montain vista ranch community and to my amazement many people here have had the same or similar issues with employees at that walmart...
one man is 87 years old and nearly deaf and was leaving walmart one day as an employee went to ask him for his receipt he didn't hear and continued walking he was very startled when two employees came rushing up to him in the parking lot thinking that he was just ignoring them, i mean come on did they really think that an 87 year old man was stealing a bag of dog food that he was struggling to push in a cart?.
A young couple here in the community had a problem when they presented their WIC checks at this walmart and red headed customer service mnanager (named gennie or gen) told them that everything that was saying WIC approved was actually not WIC approved, the lady gave them a really hard time. (apparently that lady has gained the nick name "red headed devil" here in the communilty because of her attitude with the people of our community.) In another situation a young teeneage boy was leaving walmart when he had a soda from the machine in the lobby when he was harrassed by an employee who threatened to have him arrested for taking a soda from the store (when in fact that was not the case) the boy went home crying and is still a laughing stock among friends. So in my opinion the only crisis taking place here is the way their employees treat the customers, if you have been mistreated by a member of this walmart please email me and we will put all these issues together and consider protesting or finding another way of preventing such behavior in OUR community. I know these may seem like small issues but why should anyone have to put up with this?

I understand that we are all human and people make mistakes but it shouldnt be a continual thing, there is no excuse for such behvaior!

The person that you referr to as "red headed devil" is a Customer Service Manager or CSM. She has recieved extensive training on the Arizona "WIC" program. With the "WIC" program many stupid people assume that if their "WIC" book lists that they can recieve juice that they can get any kind of juice, juice blend, juice "coctail" or soda. The lazy and stupid only look at the pictures of items in their "WIC" program books without actually readiong the Whole Product Descriptions. The stupid people on "WIC" will actually become irate and abusive toward the cashier and CSM because what they want to "buy" with their "WIC" check isn't actually included in their program or listed in their program book. For example I once had a customer who wanted to use their "WIC" check to "purchase" two large boxes of Capt'n Crunch and three large cans of Bushes' Baked Beans. They wern't able to make this purchase. They became furious, even though thier "WIC" progrom clearly stated that the could only "purchase" plain unsweetend cereal and dry beans. Their arguement was that if their book had a picture of cereal and a picture of beans they should be able to pick what ever cereal or beans they wanted. What stupid idots.

The only place I go that has self check out is Fresh and Easy, and the employees monitoring the self check outs usually help bag your groceries. I never been to Kroger either, and as far as I know, don't know were one is. What is Kroger anyway..

We don't have self checking at our Walmarts in Ca. The only store is a grocery store I frequent. I am not sure what Walmart's protocol was...

Give the Walmart associates a break. I used to work at a store in Cerritos, California, and it was hell on earth. The mangers were mean and cruel to the employees. "Meetings" were usually early on Saturday mornings, which you had to attend even if you weren't working that day. The managers would just complain and abuse the employees the entire time. Not to mention, Walmart employees are paid jack ###. I has a friend that got injured at Walmart, and they tried to fire him because he had bad back injury and they didn't want to pay the Worker's Compensation. Thank goodness he won eventually. He and his wife and their four kids had to move in with his parents because the disability payments he should have been getting weren't coming in. While recovering from the back injury he had to fight Walmart tooth and nail to get the compensation he was entitled too!

Be glad that your not working there dealing with the drama those poor employees are! Walmart has wonderful prices, and though it took me a long time to shop there again; I do now because of the recession. I have also experienced the issues that you have described, I take it with a grain of salt. Use common sense when at Walmart. If the Walmart associate was complaining about the way you were bagging your purchases, than you should have told her she needed to do it than. Most stores with self service cash registers expect the employees to help bag the groceries for you. I am assuming that is what they also expect at Walmart. My neighborhood Walmart doesn't have self registering. Sometimes I wish they had when you have to deal with some of the rude cashiers though.

Try to have some empathy that they have such a horrible work environment. Also, at the discount stores at Walmart you get what you pay for. If you want to purchase the cheaper items at lower prices than other stores, you cannot expect to get top rate customer service To me the cheaper prices are worth dealing with the workforce they hire. I cannot afford to be to picky, and if you have a new baby neither do you. Suck it up, smile, and just be glad there are places like Walmart were we can get cheaper items, and help stretch our dollar a little more.
