Las Vegas attorney Thomas Michaelides was suspended by the state bar again for allowing a paralegal do his legal work.
David Ortiz, is an attorney, works with Thomas Michaelides to bill people for attorney time while a paralegal does the work. In a recent child custody case David Ortiz was unable to file a simple request for default. In fact, one a different attorney did file the request for default the court indicated Thomas Michaelides did not draft the complaint properly with required language and the default was denied. Failing to follow the basics is a perfect example of legal malpractice.
Thomas Michaelides employed Matthew Katz, a paralegal with a law degree. (Yes, a law degree holding paralegal aka a "Super Paralegal") Although Matthew Katz had such infinite wisdom he was unable to keep himself out of jail when he was arrested for (wait for it) - for the Unauthorized Practice of Law, 205.390 - Obtaining Signature by False Pretense, 205.0832 - Theft by False Pretense Over $3500 by Nye County Sheriff.

As the Nevada Supreme Court put it, in In re Michaelides (Nev. 2017) 405 P.3d 99, "The profession was harmed because Michaelides' breach of his duties regarding non-lawyer assistants, which allowed his paralegal to engage in the unauthorized practice of law, was detrimental to the integrity and standing of the bar."
Do not fall for the low ball price Thomas Michaelides quotes as he has repeatedly been found to have committed unethical acts, is currently being sued again for legal malpractice (see attached) and his reputation will haunt your case before the court since no doubt judges are updated on currently suspended attorneys.

Thomas Michaelides employed Matthew Katz and was notified Matthew Katz was practicing law without a license on multiple occasions. Matthew Katz was subsequently arrested for Unauthorized Practice of Law, 205.390 - Obtaining Signature by False Pretense, 205.0832 - Theft by False Pretense Over $3500 by Nye County Sheriff.
After multiple suspensions by the State Bar of Nevada, Thomas Michaelides continues to be known as unethical and a simple scam. Thomas Michaelides is also being sued for malpractice along with Las Vegas attorney David Ortiz.
