OCBC Bank review: Unethical sales staff OCBC Nex Branch

Mum and I were today attended to by Mr Patrick Ooi of OCBC Nex branch at about 12pm today

We had set up a meeting with Patrick with regards to my mum’s fixed /timed deposit. She like to arrange for the funds to go back to her bank account which we believe is a simple procedure.

Understandably, Patrick would like to try promote another funds management channel which is endowment. We listened and we informed Patrick the lock in period is not suitable for my mum.

In midst of processing the transfer of funds back to my mum’s bank account, I heard Patrick telling my mum it be difficult for her children to get access to her funds in event something happens to her. My mum turned to ask me asking if it’s so. And I was appalled at how my mum is misled and assured her not to worry she has her will and LPA. At this point Patrick added on to say it will take a long time though. This set my mum into further confusion and she is so worried that in event of mishap to her, it be troublesome for us her children.

I can understand how a sales person may try to canvass for business for the bank. But to the extent of instilling fear and confusion in elderly, I do not see how this is ethical at all.

I am utterly disappointed today in our experience at OCBC Nex branch with Mr Patrick Ooi. And also wonder in fear how other elderly might be receiving such profound and uncalled for sort of pressure selling when enquiring on funds management channels.
