They are the worst when it comes to using sneaky tactics to get the most money out of overdraft fees. Nearly every policy they have is designed just to kick you when you're down. And seriously WHO reads every line of every TOU pamphlet your banks send out? You expect most major banks to work the same. You expect the teller at the window to give you accurate information. It's FIRST MIDWEST specifically, not every bank, as I have multiple accounts in various banks. They are really sneaky with their policies and rules ... not what you expect.

First of all, they will take your largest debit and apply it first, even if it is out of time/date order, in order to purposefully make your account go negative as much as possible as quickly as possible. Then they can charge you more $35 fees for the small $1 or $2 items last, EVEN IF THEY HAPPENED FIRST. They say "it's our policy to debit the bigger items first". It's apparently OK for them to make up policies that benefit them that are completely designed for extorting money from the customer.

Their online banking system is never "accurate", so even if it says your deposit went through on one day on your online bank statement, they'll tell you it didn't go through until the next day so they can charge you more fees. There is no way for you to know this, if you're making decisions based on your bank statements. They tell you one thing at the branch window and then another things after they screw up your account and steal your money.

They just make stuff up in order to squeeze more fees out of you. I've been a First Midwest customer for OVER 8 YEARS and I've had enough. I have an account at Chase and never have these problems with them. I'll be canceling my account with First Midwest as soon as I can.

First Midwest's Trust Department in Joliet, Illinois is no different with using sneaky tactics and rate increases for Land Trusts. For any reason whatsoever, if you are late with the 75.00 annual fee, they tack on an additional 18%; and if you want a revocation of the trust, it increases as months go by.
Ask a question? That department is not too accomodating.
All they are doing is holding a piece of paper and charging you to maintain the trust.
We inherited First Midwest from Palos Bank, so it was none of our doing.
It's time to file complaints.
