Contacted ECD in October 2009 about plans for a modular home in NYC. Gave ECD $7600 for plans. Ask for some changes in plan and was promised that they were made. ECD gave me a quote that was $75, 000 more than traditional builders. Decided to have ECD draw plans and told them that I was going with a traditional builder. Told by Dave Marconi from ECD that it was okay and that ECD will do the plans. I was told that the plans will be ready by January 2010. Keep calling in February 2010 and was told they were very busy. Finally after many emails and calls, I was told that they could not finish the plans and that I should find another architect. They promise to refund me back half the money although the plans that they had were not even 20% done. Long story short, never got back the refund and contacted BBB. ECD told BBB that I did not want the refund because I contacted BBB? (huh?) Took ECD to small claims court in Long Island and won. Was suppose to receive my refund in August. It is not October and still no refund. Call ECD and they told me that the check will go out Wednesday of last week. Still no check! ECD lies and continue to lie. I am very disappointed in this company and suggest anyone who wants to hire this company to check whether or not they can deliver. NYC cost more for modular homes because of the transportation costs. I am still without a house and living in an apartment which ECD has incur an additional cost on me. I was treated very poorly.

We want to thank East Coast Dormer for not only completing our 2nd floor addition, but exceeding our expectations.
From our 1st meeting, to working together to develop our floor plans, to helping us with the permit process, to the installation & to the finish work, you kept us included & informed throughout the entire process! We especially appreciated your responsiveness to our many questions and phone calls throughout the process. Also, special thanks to East Coast's crew who did a great job with the demolition, finish work & site clean up.
We would not hesitate to refer others to East Coast Dormer for their Modular construction. Thanks again!

My wife and I recently hired East Coast Dormer to build a modular second floor addition to our all original 1950s cape. It had been a great experience and we highly recommend them.

From start to finish, from the day we signed a contract, to the day we moved back in, it took a little over a month. Compared to some of our neighbors who've been in construction for well over a year, and still not done, this was a HUGE positive for us.

We interviewed 5-6 large LongIsland contractors before settling with East Coast Dormers. Many of them seemed shady and wouldn't give straight answers. One company even gave us a quote for the project over the phone without coming to look at the house. A 100k budget project and the contractor didn't even care to come out to meet us in person. Needless to say, this contractor did not get our project. We called East Coast Dormer towards the end of our search. It was like night and day. Scott (the owner) Carmine (sales) and Rose (assistant) were always available to use by phone and eMail. And even after-hours in the early evening and on the weekends. Carmine put up with many changes to the plans and materials. He was very patient, explaining all the choices and associated costs. And project timelines.

It helps to know exactly what you are looking for. Carmine had the plans drawn up and he gave us an EXACT price for the total project. Not a vague estimate. An EXACT price down to the penny before any work is done. Upgraded bathroom fixtures, tile, carpeting, roofing, siding styles etc You will know exactly what you are getting and for how much. Nothing is left up in the air. It's all itemized and accounted for. They even handled all the permit fees and architectural reviews with the village and town so I didn't have to take time off from work to handle paperwork.

Day1+2 was demo. Day3 the modular addition is trucked over. Day4 the modular addition is hoisted up with a crane and set on the house. At the end of Day4, the electricity is all hooked up and working. Everything is completely weatherproof. NO TARPS. After Day4, the East Coast Dormer crew comes to finish the interiors, siding, hook up the pre-installed plumbing and heating, carpeting, etc. There was a crew here every day, doing full days until the project was done. Every single day there was someone here working. They cleaned up the job site at the end of every day. There was no cheezy advertising signs on the lawn or stuck to the side of the house like other contractors do. Very professional, friendly, experienced and hard working. The East Coast Dormer crew was fantastic.

East Coast Dormer called or eMailed almost every day to give us updates and schedules. Scott (the owner) called at least once a week to check up on us and made sure we were happy. It was a great experience overall. We are so glad to have chosen them. Good luck with your project.

I've read other complaints about this company. I would stay away from this company! They're out to get your money only!

First of all, he hired ECD to do plans for a "Modular" home and the fee was $ 7, 100 NOT $7, 600. ($3, 550 for 1st phase & $3, 550 for final phase of plans) We completed the 1st phase (design & prelim construction) & then the customer advised us he had hired another company and he decided to "stick" build. After this he then became very demanding & wanted the 2nd phase of his plans completed immediately. He started calling several times a day & requesting items that were not included in our orig. contract. He realized our drawing fee was much less than others & was trying to take advantage of us. We had other customers that were ahead of him of which he did not like and was not willing to wait. It became apparent he needed different concessions to draw a "Stick" build home and since we are a "Modular" company we were not geared to do this. Given the situation, ECD felt it was in the best interest of both parties to cancel the 2nd phase of the drawings & give the full refund of $3, 550. Unfortunately, the customer knew he as getting an inexpensive price for the plans & did NOT want the refund. He tried calling BBB to make us finish his plans, but the BBB decided ECD did nothing wrong and he should take the refund. The customer didn't like that so he took ECD to small claims court. He did NOT win, he got the original refund we offered ($3, 550) + an extra $10, of which he could have taken months previous & avoided all of this!
