Vonage hidden fees

Today, 1 day short of my 1 year annual service, I called Vonage to cancel my account. I called today, rather then the annual date because I did not want to be charged an extra month's service fee. Speaking to the representative, I made it clear that I wanted to close my account on the condition that I would have no extra service fees or cancellation fees that were not apparent in my original contract (aka $39.99), and that I needed to know before the account was closed what the cancellation fees would be. I asked the representative 3 times distinctly, and she refused to give any answer. The rep persisted in trying to get me to buy new services, and I refused, saying no I want to cancel, tell me what the amount of the cancellation fee will be, or if there was one. She evaded this, and put me on hold. During the time I was put on hold, conveniently the call was dropped. I immediately received an email stating that I was being charged $98.46 to close the account. Now: 1. I did not approve the cancellation, because my canceling was dependent on the conditions and amount of the cancellation fee. I would have canceled the account tommorrow, if I knew I would receive an extra service charge. 2. According to the customer service reps who I called back to explain and rectify this hidden charge, I was being charged $50.00 for the router they issued because my service had not lasted exactly for a year. Now I was paid in full for service for the entire year, and my call was an inquiry, one day shy. I am aware there is a $39.99 fee for canceling the service, but to cancel my account without disclosing the extra $50.00 charge is utterly deceptive. I was charged over $40 when I opened my account, which covered the expense of the router. I called the customer rep service back twice, and was stymied, refused contact with a manager, and refused any transcript copies of the conversation I had with the representatives. Reading from scripts, they refused to be of any help. When you figure in the hidden expenses, Vonage is actually no cheaper then your average home phone line service as advertised. I would not recommend their service to anyone and while I know this is a nominal sum, I feel cheated non the less.

I agree with Olivia, Vonage will not let you cancel before the renew date. I had tried to cancel two months before my yearly contract would run out. The rep said I had to call back on the renewal date. I asked for a supervisor but was put on hold then the rep came back and said he just canceled the account that had two months to go to complete the contract. I was charged 39.xx. That was not what I wanted I would have kept the con tract to the end all I wanted is to make sure I was not charged for for another year. Vonage gives prices without taxes included
and you always are charged more than you expect. I also did a referral that I never received credit for. the reason I wanted to cancel Vonage 2 months early was because I purchased a MAGICJACK and wanted to try it for a month or two. It turned out the MAGICJACK works great @ $40.00 and 5.00 shipping. one year contract included. 20.00 each year after. I strongly recommend the MAGICJACK.

Vonage awful company

Used Vonage for almost 6 Years and cannot complain about their VOIP Service however having Cell Phones made the use of VOIP unnecessary for the time being. Canceling Phone Service with Vonage is just as bad as AOL Hell. My Vonage Phone Service was always paid one month ahead and i expected to keep the service for the remainder of the time/month it is paid for but in order to keep the service i already paid for, Vonage insisted i call them the day before the next monthly service cycle begins claiming this is a Federal Mandate for Customers to call one day before the cancellation date begins or they will bill me again but i insisted it is their job following proper procedure and if they disconnect my VOIP Service at the moment of cancellation i expect them to reimburse me prorated. Well i canceled my Vonage Service and was disconnected the same moment. Vonage just closed the door to ever have me again as a customer and the same goes for many former Vonage Customers and You folks can take this to the Bank, this is a Class Action in the making. Vonage is just another Corporate Thief stealing from its Customers.Now just got e-mail from Vonage for a cancellation charge of 39.99 Dollars which they did not mention when canceling the service.

Vonage is the worst telephone company...Do NOT sign up with them. They lie to you all the time. Their customer service people are insulting, give you the run around. And then give you a problem when you want to cancel. They even had the GAUL to ask which company was going to be providing new service to me...I couldn't believe that...It wasn't any of their business.

I had other issues with their horrible service. INCLUDING not everyone can be connected with them..Various phone numbers don't work with vonage. You can't call them and they can't call you...Why would anyone need a phone carrier with HORRIBLE service.

I also told vonage I am NOT paying them a disconnect fee. No where does it say there is one. I used them for over a year...One year yes I agreed to...I didn't agree to a disconnect fee. I asked them if there was one..>They said 'no' when I signed up...>Faulty advertising yes...Lieing...Yes. They lied to me and I don't like it...I am NOT paying them an added dime.

We decided in May 2008 to get a cheaper land line simply because we only taled at home to family. we thought we could get a better price.Well after talking over 20 hours and failing to ever get phone service from Vonnage they are trying to charge us for stopping service we never have got hooked up.

On May 16, 2008 I transferred my phone service from AT&T to Vonage phone service. It took them about 2 days to port my phone number from AT&T to vonage. Prior to transferring to Vonage. I asked the sales rep if it would work with my alarm system. She asked which system. I told her ADT. She said it would work with ADT. About a week later I received a letter from ADT requesting I test the system. It didn't work. After a week of trying to get the alarm system to work with the Vonage phone I gave up. I called Vonage to cancel my service. They told me I needed to contact my former phone service (AT&T) to get my phone reconnected with them. It took Vonage two weeks to port my number back to AT&T. That put me two days over my 30 day trial period with Vonage. They ended up charging my credit card for a total of $171.44 for service and disconnect fees. They refused to take back their reconditioned Vonage connection box for a partial refund.

Vonage customer service was contacted by phone and email many times. They refused to let me talk to a supervisor.

They lied to me about my alarm system being compatible with the Vonage phone system to get my business. Then they dragged their feet porting my phone # back to AT&T so I went 2 days over the 30 day trial period which ended up costing me $171.44.

After 1 year of putting up with very poor line quality, decided to switch ooma. Vonage service was awful in sense that whenever you are downloading a large file, the phone service gets interrupted and it becomes impossible to talk. After trying everything, i decided to swithch to ooma. ooma equipment is actually installed between the router and the modem and protects the bandwidth thats why their sound quality is good.

So to add insult to injury I discovered that there is a $40 charge for cancelling Vonages crappy service. Thats something that they never inform you about until you cancel the service, instead this rule is buried deep in an obscure part of their terms of service agreement that you apparently accept when they trick you into managing your site online. Be careful what you agree to when you go with this company, I though it was a reputable firm, instead they have proven to be scam artists.

This company will not be around for long. Ooma for example provides better service, and a better quality product for free (once you buy the hardware).

Its in the terms of service, Vonage is not responsible for compatibility of home alarm systems should have read those terms of service you should know you cant always go by a sales rep response

Vonage refund

I ordered Vonage, and never hooked it up. Called to see what I could do to get a refund. Was told I was out of the refund period by 8 days. After yelling and asking for supervisor, I was told to return the box, and I would get a full refund. I did that, and after numerous (8) calls and many hours on hold, I was told TWICE with two different confirmation numbers that I would receive a refund. This was over a period from 12/08 til today 3/6. I was told again this morning that their computer was down and would be called back when it came up to give me my refund status. I'm not holding my breath.
I hope no one does any business with this company. They are located in many locations throughout the world, and are very unorganized, and I'm sure are reading from the script that says "tell the customer what they want to hear, but never give them refunds"

Vonage sent to collections for money I did not owe

I signed up with Vonage in able to work from home and dial accross the country for a lesser price...3 months later my company closed so I no longer needed the service as we only use cellular and have no need for a home phone. I was given the run-around and had 39.99 a month taken out of my account for 6 months! They would put me on hold for HOURS and then tell me they were unable to cancel...transfer me...put my on hold...it was endless...AND I was told initially that the service would be 9.99/month as oppossed to the 39.99 a month they were charging. When I FINALLY cancelled the account I asked if there was ANYTHING else due $...and I was told that as long as I returned my router I had no more money due. I returned the router and thought I was done with Vonage until I received a COLLECTIONS LETTER (6 months later) in the amount of $109. I was told by the collections company that they received numerous complaints while attempting to collect on Vonage accounts. I explained that not only did I specifically ASK the Vonage rep if anything was owed...but I never receive anything from Vonage saying that I owed $109 and that the first I had heard of it was AFTER THEY FORWARDED ME TO COLLECTIONS! Eventually I simply paid the $109 that I DID NOT owe b/c I didn't want a negative item on my credit. How convenient for VONAGE to receive free money not owed to them from NUMEROUS individuals simply b/c they hold a negative credit item over their head if they don't pay money they don't owe! I've reported them and hope to hear more soon. TOTAL SCAM...TOTAL FRAUD...UNETHICAL COMPANY that will eventually be figured out and no longer exist.

I have to agree strongly with your post, Vonage is like the Mafia/Adolf Hilter of the phone companies, I had a similar experience with them, only when I signed up they allowed you to do it over the web and nowhere was there a clause that stated that early cancellation would result in a penalty, I owned the equipment and what I saw when signning up was pay month to month and no contracts. When I cancelled, they immediately went to try and charge on my credit card on file, lucky for me that I had cancelled it a month prior. I ultimately after being bullied by them with their extorsion e mails agreed to pay their 42.00 cancellation extortion payment.
I will NEVER use Vonage again, instead I actually found a better solution that hopefully will put vonage to and early demise, this compant is called Ooma www.ooma.com, It can be pricey to lay out the money at first for their unit and setup, but their is no monthly charge and only 99.00 a year if you purchase the premier service, and the clarity and customer service runs circles around vonage tenfold. Give them a try, I did and love the fact that I am contributing to vonage and at&t's demise.

Vonage cancellation

I purchase Vonage back in 2007. I had issues on and off with the service such as the broadband and the echoing. We tried to cancel the service in September of 2008 and were given the runaround. They went to forwarding the calls the lady I spoke to today said that it costs 4.9 cents to forward the calls to the new number. They are considered to be outgoing calls just for your future reference. I was told I had a 2 year contract but when I called then a few minutes ago to set up service I was told there is no contract. Someone is lying somewhere. I did bring this up to the supervisor I spoke to. After reading the complaints on this site I was prepared for the excuses when I asked for one. I did pay the cancelation fee. It was the best $42.69 I spent. I will be keeping my eye on my account to see if they continue to bill me. I did let the supervisor know that I would be doing so since that is a practice they seem to perform, and if they did they would be seeing me in small claims court.

Have tried to cancel service since 2/08. They keep you on the phone forever, offer a month free, etc, etc.
However, when all is said and done, they will not cancel. I have been in a location where I do not have access to internet or satellite and cannot use vonage. But, they are still charging me in 09/08.

Vonage ripping to many people off - stealing their money

their promising 9;95 a month, for three month then turn to 25.00 and we can dis-connect if we don't care to use it
Right after I signed up over the internet, the next day, a friend told about jack phones where people can call world wide, free of charge. 50.00 one time
so I need to contact theses people at vonage, trouble is, it's almost impossibe to do this, they won't talk to stop anybodys account, they want to keep on using
Would you please close my account at 5th 3rd debit cards Master Card so these rip-offs don't get a penny
need any information about them- just put Vonage
rip-offs on your computer-it's in there. believe me.

Vonage charged without using product, cant cancel

I was told I could save money on my phone bill. I didn't want a different phone number, they said I could try a temp number to see if I wanted service. I never initiated or did a set-up using any phone number because several current business people using their product were unable to get reliable use. I told them I didn't want, and they said I had to try it. It plugged into your internet service, and I would not be able to use at another location, unless they had internet. Because I required a reliable service to do a web front store, I sent it back. They kept charging me for somthing I never used, or set-up/initiated. My credit card would not cancel because I gave Vonage my info. I had to get a positive cancel from Vonage. They then charged another $95 plus all the months of billing my card, which I couldn't cancel.
This is a fraud. Other people I talked with had simular problems. A guy from BC/BS in Colorado tried to do a presentation on BC/BS insurance, and it kept freezing the screen. He then told me how he had to keep this system 1 more month, and he was very upset just talking about it. I also lost money trying to cancel, and I never used this product.

Please Advise if any help exist to go after this company. Can anyone be a silent shopper to expose their con?

Vonage cancel fees after over 1 year service

After having Vonage for over 1 year I decided to cancel 01/13/2009, after being put on hold three times and given the run-around then an offer to stay with Vonage for 19.99 per month I refused and insisted they cancel the service. The rep was incredibly rude and told me I would have to pay 44.47 in cancel fees, I asked her if she is OK, she obviously was deluded. I was a Vonage customer for over 1 year so cancel fees did not apply, per the agreement when I signed up in 2007, after yelling at me to read my agreement; I continued to insist I had a 1yr no fee cancellation agreement.
They eventually canceled the service after over 20 minutes of insisting that they cancel,

I WOULD NEVER GO BACK TO VONAGE OR RECOMMEND VONAGE PHONE SERVICE to anyone and will tell everyone I meet looking for a phone service, my friends who signed up on my recommendation is also leaving, spread the word the VONAGE PHONE SERVICE is a big scam and will no honor their agreements. My bank will deal with idiots like Vonage and their fraudulent billing practices.
I phoned back to complain and nothing was done my account was immediately billed the cancel fees. Let them fight with my bank over this unauthorized billing.

Vonage no refund if cancelled during trial

I agreed to try Vonage phone service, with the understanding that if I cancelled within 30 days I wouuld receive a full refund. After serveral attemps to make the device work with Qwest DSL, I cancelled the service and sent the device back; this was 14 days after placing the order. They recived the device 8 days later, still within the 30 day trial. They charged an additional $40 for not recieiving the device. Luckily a sent the device with delivery confirmation and was able to prove when they received the device. They have now admitted to reciveing the device and state that the technicians must certify the device before a refund will be granted; Vonage does not know how long that will take.

As it stands after 21 since cancellation, they have not refunded the initial charge of $61.81 or the $39.99 for the device. I you try Vonage, be prepared for a fight to get a refund.

Yeah, I should have viewed this before I tried them. They weren't able to come up with any resolution during the 30 day trial period so I called it quits. To this day, I haven't seen any of the refund. I guess they're waiting for me to remind them. I don't think I want to listen to another agent twist my conversation into another sales opportunity. I guess I'll just save myself the trouble and chalk this one up as a lesson learned. PLEASE WARN YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY THAT VONAGE ISN'T WORTH IT! There, I think that was worth the $80. Maybe.

Vonage billed for services not provided

Switched my phone service from Vonage to Optimum mid October-Got the run around from Vonage about closing the account. Found that they were continuing to bill my AMEX account. Found out that they didn't close my account and were continuing to collect $31.95 from my AMEX!
I was finally able to speak to a "Manager" in account services who told me that they could not refund ANY monies to me because the account was still open although no services were being provided (except for keeping open a dead account) Was told that according to the terms of service agreement, they could continue to do so until the account was closed! Honestly, the service was OK and had no real complaints about that BUT their business practices are unscrupulous at best! Wish I knew this before I ever signed up with them. I'll be sure to tell anyone I know about this. VONAGE WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY EVEN IF THEY DON'T PROVIDE SERVICES TO YOU!

Vonage did me the same way. Except they are charging us $150 for a phone line we NEVER used. Never made calls out of the phone, never got incoming calls. Why I could never get their piece of crap modem to work! No wonder it was FREE? So tried to call their tech support they could not answer any questions. I could not hardly understand them because of the very broken english they had. Told them to never activate the account. They said too late. Then I get a bill for $150! So I called again to dispute the charges. I got told I SUBSCRIBED for the service so I have to pay! I SUBSCRIBED? Is this a magizine, book order what? Phone service weather you use any minutes or not! This constitutes as FRAUD! Does Qwest charge you for SUBSCRIBING to their service? NO! They charge for incoming and outgoing calls, local and long distance but not a subscription. Vonage wrote and told me this (Cut and pasted from email)

Vonage misrepresentation

I signed up with Vonage when looking for a new phone carrier. I tried doing it online but the website wouldn't allow me to complete the transaction because I did not want to submit a credit card or debit card. I then called Vonage to complete my order. The gentleman who answered the call had a very thick accent (he sounded like he was from India). I explained what I had already done and the customer service rep told me that they just needed a credit card or debit card to complete the transaction. I explained to the customer service rep that I never supplied that information due to a different company charging both the credit card and debit card simultaneously for the same bill and that I wanted to pay by cash or money order. The customer service rep seemed to have a hard time wrapping his brain around that one and after I had explained multiple times that I did not want my credit card or debit card charged for my bill the customer service rep finally said they needed the credit card or debit card to "secure" the line and that I could mail in payments and Vonage wouldn't charge my card. I was not happy but with the offer that I received, I figured that I could just supply the card and pay with a money order. I kept asking the customer service rep to confirm the fact that my card would not be charged and at one point was ending the call because I didn't want my card charged. He assured me REPEATEDLY that I could pay by money order. The order was finalized and supposedly the equipment was sent to me. The next day I got a call from my credit card company saying that my card had been charged repeatedly from Vonage and did I authorize the charges. I called Vonage again and this time spoke with a woman who clearly spoke English. I explained what had transpired the previous day, what the agreement was and why was my card repeatedly being charged? She told me under NO CIRCUMSTANCES would I EVER be able to pay by money order or check, that Vonage only had paperless payment and that only debit or credit cards were accepted as payment. I was livid. I told her the extent of my conversation the previous day with the other customer service rep and how he had assured me REPEATEDLY that I could pay with a money order. She told me she could see on my screen that I was on the phone with the other customer service rep for an unusually long period of time and wondered why as there were no notes detailing the conversation, which was unusual. I told her how disgusted I was, the fact that I had tried to end the order before it had been submitted due to the fact that I didn't want my card charged for my monthly bill. I stated clearly that the company and it's employees out-and-out lied to me. There was no other excuse for what the other customer service rep had done. She apologized repeatedly and said that doing business like that wasn't company policy and that the customer service reps get bonuses for signing up new customers. I told her I wanted to cancel my order. As apologetic as she was, there was an $89 cancellation fee. By then I was so disgusted I told her to just do it. She did refund the installation fee of $39 but the cancellation fee was still applicable. Never do business with this company, they are liars and obviously the way they make their money is by lying to prospective customers and hoping the customer doesn't figure it out before the equipment gets there because then there is an even larger disconnect fee. These people are scam artist and liars and that's all there is to it.

Vonage contacted me to sell me their services. I was very interested in VoIP and listened to the sales pitch. At first they wanted $39.99 for the equipment, 19.99 for activation and another 19.99 to ship the equipment. I advised them I didn't have that kind of money but I was still interested and would contact them when I had the money. Miraculously the price went all the way down to 9.95 to ship and everything else was free! I should of listened to my brain at that time...Too good to be true. Anyway, I advised the salesperson that at that time I didn't even have the 9.99 for shipping but would have it in a couple of weeks and to call me back. She agreed. About 30 minutes later, Vonage calls back. She advised she had a supervisor on the phone who might be able to help me. The supervisor advised me that they could "post date" the charges until the date that I had specified that there would be money in my account. I questioned him over and over about that because at the time, my rent check was still outstanding and I didn't want even the remote possibility of it bouncing because of Vonage. He reassured me over and over again that the money would not be taken from my account until I had called and advised them to process the order. WRONG! Those jerks took it out that day! They caused my rent check to bounce! When I called them, they apologized and said that the supervisor had no authority to promise that. When I asked them cancel my account...NO! It was a weekend and apparently you can only cancel Mon-Fri 8-8 EASTERN TIME! I live in the Pacific Time zone. I don't get home from work until after 9 EASTERN TIME. I don't live my life on eastern time! Anyway, I called back 3 times because I still wasn't convinced that Vonage would work on my Internet setup. I explained over and over again that I had no modem, I connected wirelessly through my neighbors high speed connection. They assured me that it would work over and over again. I wasn't convinced, but I thought I would try. Of course when the equipment came, I could plainly see that it wasn't going to work. I called tech support who confirmed my assessment. They said it would never work with the current way that I connected to the internet. I advised him that I had called 3 times (not including the initial 2 phone calls they made to me) explaining exactly how I connected to the internet and being assured each time that Vonage would work.
VONAGE IS NOTHING BUT A BUNCH OF FRAUDULENT JERKS WHO LIE, AND LIE, AND LIE TO MAKE A BUCK. DON'T TRUST THEM! THEY WOULD STEAL THE PENNIES OUT OF YOUR DEAD GRANDMOTHER'S EYES!

Vonage drop calls

I am getting calls that are dropped before I can understand the caller. At times when I pick up the phone to make a call the phone goes dead. Calls are being directed to voicemail even on the first ring.

diagnostics on my vontage port reads network error on quality. we have constant drop calls and more no available usage when trying to make calls, other words we have more no service than service. our dsl connection is good, internet connect is good, vontage device says good connect., phone port test passed., network repair does not solve this constant problem with vontage service.the vontage co., in fairness to customers, vontage should not bill customers until service is operating properly.

Vonage rip off, cancellation fee, over charges

Voice quality terrible, can not be used for faxing at any speed, customer support horrible. Simply put avoid Vonage at all expense. Never told me about a two year contract and cancellation fee and hit me with a $80 cancellation fee which I am fighting now and will not honor. Had leave message on answering machine at the company headquarters, could not get to a live person no matter what. Customer service will do anything to keep you going as a customer, don't get sucked in.

Buyer Beware! I've just canceled my Vonage service which I haven't used. I paid $50 for the activation fee that's after the "first month free" advertised back in Dec 2008. And I have been paying the $28.77 for 2 months after that. Now that I want to disconnect the line. They're charging me $110. Why? Cause the representative says she has to charge the $39.99 disconnect fee AND the "applicable recovery fee on section 8.8 from the TOS" which equals to the $70 rebate they gave me on the modem. I offered to return the modem, but they don't want it back. I've read many many complaints about Vonage (only after signing up to their service, stupid me!) and realized I was in for a painful scam. I was ready for the $39.99 mentioned everywhere but not the $70 for "recovery fee" which the representative admits could be anything, depending on what they give as promo to signing up the service. So buyer beware! The cheaper you think you're getting from Vonage, you'll pay it ALL back when you want to part ways with them!

My elderly parents were told to plug a modem ( they do not know what that is ) into the cable tv line. All monies charged are going to be refunded by Vonage and a complaint has been issued against the sales person.
Vonage was told that a connection to the internet was not available and the response was " just plug it into the cable tv line".

So be careful this company will say anything to make a sale and nail you to the wall if the 30 day refund period has passsed. Fortunately we caught this for them, because when asked for an E-mail address my son ( their grandson ) has an account with Vonage. The E-mail ( that my parents do not know ) for confirmation was sent to him, forwarded to me and here we are.
As yet the complaint is still pending and we have to contact a manger in New Jersey on Monday to complete the refund.
I have been assured that all monies will be refunded and all will be righted. Still in shock as to how they could take advantage of people like this with no technology accumen whatsoever.

Vonage fraudulent trading

Vonage fradulently induces customers to subscribe by offering a 30 day money back cancellation guarantee, which they do not honor.

I cancelled my Vonage service a few days after receiving the equipment, well within the 30 day period. Vonage refused to honor their advertised inducement, agreeing that although I had contacted them in time, it took them a further 11 days to process my request, which brought it to 1 day outside the 30 day period. They have fraudulently withdrawn substantial sums against my credit card.

Vonage scam and cheating

I have had to deal with Vonage Customer Service Reps 4 different times to try and resolve my $50 unlimited calling business line(s) charges. These reps blatantly lie to you! Every one of them has and then tells me that the previous rep's statements were not valid and what I am currently paying is 'what I signed up for.'

I am now paying overage charges on my unlimited calling plan due to one of the reps signing me up for it. According to them, I was told that I would now be charged overage charges and I must have agreed to them. NOT! Why would I call 4 straight month's in a row trying to straighten out my 'unlimited calling for $50.00 per month!'

Now that I am canceling, they are charging me cancellation charges on 4 lines, not the 2 that I am paying (2 were supposed to be free 'virtual' lines. How can they get away with this? Also, when you call technical support to get your phone lines to actually work, you are connected to a representative that can not speak or understand english and will not transfer you to someone who can! I have dealt with this issue 4 times as well.

I would love to be involved in a Class Action Lawsuit... where do I sign up!

Vonage first lures you into this very simple cost saving scheme where you get all the benefits of extra ordinary phone service but they also tell you that you can cancel anytime without any contract but they charge you a cancellation fee. Their technical help is a week away and they promise to reimburse you if you use third part service to wire your house for their phone service but they never reimburse you. If you ask for the credit they will say that you have to keep receiving service and then they can consider a service. I was with Vonage on the phone for over 6 hours, never got a refund, was charged for two months of phone service that I never used and paid $100 to rewire the house since vonage would send a person after 7 business days ! They will keep you on the phone, the support service are very rude/unhelpful. They know they are scamming people and they still in business! I paid over $300.00 for services (IN ONE MONTH !) that I never used and spent countless hours trying to get service.

Finally I switched back to xxxx and I am very satisfied. Please save yourself TIME & MONEY and do not sign up with Vonage! gO WITH ANY OTHER COMPANY!

Vonage vonage owes me refnds for month of service charges after cancellation and undisclosed cancellation fees plus causing me bankaccount fees.

I WAS DISSATISFIED WITH THE VONAGE SERVICE SO I CHOSE ANOTHER PHONE SERVICE WHICH NOTIFIED VONAGE OF THE CHANGE. VONGE OKAYED IT. THEN THEY WITHDREW THE NEXT MONTH FEE FOR SERVICES THEY DID NOT PROVIDE. I CALLED VONAGE. THEY OFFERED ME 2 FREE MONTHS TO GO BACK TO THEM. NEXT, I RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM MY BANK OF NSUFFICIENT FUNDS AND CHARGES FOR THAT. VONAGE HAD WITHDRAWN CANCELLATION FEES WHICH WERE NEVER DISCLOSED TO ME OR WRITTEN IN THE LITERATURE I RECEIVED. I CONTACTED VONAGE BUT THEY REFUSED TO REFUND ANY OF MY MONEY. I AM A SENIOR ON LOW INCOME AND THIS CAUSED ME SEVERE FINANCIAL LOSS AND DISTRESS. DISA VONAGE! WHAT AN UNDERSTATEMENT TO SAY THE LEAST. I SIGNED UP FOR DISA VONAGE 9 MOS AGO.

ONE DAY LAST WEEK 4-23-09 I FINALLY GOT SICK AND TIRED OF MY INTERNET SERVICE NOT WORKING AT ALL
OR NOT WORKING PROPERLY. ALSO I GOT SICK OF ALL THE DROPPED CALLS AND OR BAD CONNECTIONS.

SO I CALLED UP DISA VONAGE AND ASKED HOW TO CANCELL. THEY SAID THAT I WAS ON A CONTRACT AND THAT THEY WOULD CHARGE ME A CANCELATION FEE AND ALSO A FEE FOR THE DISA VONAGE ROUTER. I OF COURSE WAS VERY VERT ANGRY AND EXPLAINED THAT MY DEBIT CARD WAS CANCELED AND THAT I WAS WAITING FOR A NEW ONE IN THE MAIL, SO I ASKED IF I COULD PAY WITH A CHECK. I WAS PUT ON HOLD FOR A LONG TIME AND THEN I GOT HUNG UP ON.

THIS REALLY MADE ME ANGRY SO I CALLED BACK AND SAID THAT I WAS GOING TO CALL CHANEL 7 NEWS AFTER I WAS DONE TALKING TO THEM AND THAT SINCE THEY DID NOT PROVIDE THE SERVICE THAT THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD PROVIDE ON THE CONTRACT, THAT I SHOULD OWE THEM NOTHING!

THEY HUNG UP ON ME AGAIN! I TRIED TO CALLED BACK BUT THEY HAD ALREADY DISCONNECTED MY PHONE. I WENT ON LINE TO MY ON LINE BANKING AND THEY SENT ME THERE STATEMENT STATING THAT THEY TRIED TO CHARGE MY DEBIT CARD FOR $ 135.00 AND THAT FOR SOME REASON THE TRANSACTION WAS NOT SUCCESSFULL AND TO CALL THEM BACK WITH A DIFFERENT CREDIT CARD OR SOMETHING! OR SURE I'LL GET RIGHT ON IT .

WHAT KIND OF BUSINESS WOULD CHARGE FEES ON A DEBIT CARD THAT WAS CANCELED, WHICH I CLEARLY STATED ON THE PREVIOUS PHONE CAL. HOW STUPID IS THAT.

WELL ITS THERE DISA VONGAGE NOW! LET THEM TRY AND COLLECT THE MONEY FROM ME NOW!

Vonage charged for unrequested account.

I opened a Vonage account ([protected]) in December 2007. I cancelled the account as of Dec. 11, 2007 and received confirmation from Vonage that the account was deactivated. I recently learned that, without my knowledge, Vonage had opened a second account at the same time ([protected].) I have been charged monthly fees for that account with no notification or bills sent to me for a whole year. When I called to complain, I had to pay to have this second, unrequested account, deactivated. I was also told I was not entitled to a refund of the year's fees because I did not formally request them to deactivate the account. Of course I did not request it because I never knew I had that account. Is there anything that I can do to recoup that money? It was their error in opening a second account and they should have informed me of it when I cancelled the account I knew about. Thanks. Terry Karcich

Just about the same story. My husband operates a home business and fax line. He ordered two Vonage lines but upon receipt and discussion with Vonage decided to cancel, as the equipment would not work with the current system he had. They continually charged his Visa and some six months later finally lowered the billing amount. Further calls to them expressed they did not know why they continued to bill his Visa for a non account. THREE AND ONE HALF YEARS LATER, I, his wife, received a letter from a collection agency stating I owed them xxx. Apparently "I" had set up an account with them in my name and had never cancelled it. My husband told them he opened two accounts and, as requested by Vonage, provided my name as the accounts payable contact, as I do the company books once per month. They put an account in my name without my knowledge. I have never even spoken to Vonage, - the second line was a fax line. We are still fighting for a refund of some $650 for service we have never received. I hope their shareholders read this as once the BS about manipulation of non accounts to earn undeserved revenue becomes apparent, they will find their stock is as worthless as the company's credibility. Incidentally, this "offer" of service occured 3 1/2 years ago, and was immediately turned down. The rep was asked what to do with the equipment and, as we had already been charged for it on the Visa, he said don't worry about it. So some of us in Canada have also had a horrible experience with Vonage. Don't sign up with them or even take and offer to try their service - you will be billed and billed and billed with nothing in return.

Vonage ripping customers off

My brother requested Vontage service on March 1, 2008, the rep advised my brother that he needed a computer to obtain the service, he informed the rep that he did not own one and advised the rep during the same telephone conversation of that fact and asked to forget about the call. On Mach 3, 2008 vontage sent out the hook-up device, my brother sent it back on March 26, 2008. Vontage has been drafted money out of his account since March. When they were notified they told us it is because the account was still open, the rep stated she was looking atbthe initial information and sees where the account was opened in March and where the request to close it at that time was made. The reason my brother did not know this until now is because he does not receive a paper statement from the bank and he seldom looks at the electronic one. At any sense Vontage does not want to repay him for the 6 months they have been deducting funds from his account. They said they have been sending electronic statements to him, how can that be remember he doesn't have a computer and they have not sent anything to my address. 2 lessons learned: check your bank statements and do not deal with Vontage.
