Sbfc mimics a federal organization webpage when they're not. The resources they offer after charging a membership fee is available for free on the website of entrepreneurship centers. They're evasive when you call them back demanding refunds: you always end up with a "receptionist". They cite success stories of others businesses online, but none of these have obtained their grant through sbfc. The fact is any bank like cibc can guide you for free on how to apply for a government-subsidized loan for your business. If they charged you anyway, work with your credit company to get re-imbursed: you have the right to get re-imbursed for a fraudulent product.

hi,

I got a refund of the first installment after I wrote them (and called) saying that I want to return their package to them and I find their service to be the same as what a bank can tell you for free. I was insistent, and told them I'll blog / write about it as well, and that they unfairly mimic a federal government page on their website.
I now hope they won't accidentally charge me a second installment.

This company is a scam. The person who sold me this said on the phone I would qualify for a grant. There was nothing at all for me when I used their filter. Their database is not proprietary. They misrepresent their ability to help a small business owner find government financing. I a have lodged a complaint with the Better Business Bureau., am disputing this charge with my credit card company, and will bring them to small claims court. Stay away from this company

I filled out their online form, and I received a call from them. I was assured that there were several grant programs which I qualified for. I told them the business I was trying to start, and the guy quoted me three different codes. I looked at the codes. One was a code for applying for a loan at different banks. Another was a code if you want to get a grant for starting a business in Atlantic Canada. I live in Ontario! Hello? The last code for a grant the guy told me was for starting up some type of food business, which isn't the business I am trying to start. I did the program search on their website. Only 7 programs came up, none are for grants that I can qualify for. This is ridiculous. I phoned to speak to someone. Nobody will answer the phone. I left a message explaining why I want a refund. Nobody has called me back. I have started a complaint with the better business bureau here in Ontario. I suggest that others in this situation do the same. I feel really stupid for falling into this trap. I don't mind paying if you get something for your money. the guy on the phone even said they would help with making a business plan. Basically as soon as they have charged you the money, you're on your own, and they've charged you for a service which they won't provide.

My husband put his number down to inquiry about a these government grants he was promptly called back he was mislead and also thought they were through the government he was also misled on the price he was told 89 dollars would be charged my husband had asked to use my credit card he gave them my credit card and he forwarded me the receipt I looked at the recipet and it said 589 dollars! I called my credit card company right away and canceled my card my husband called this company and left several messages and no one would call him back regarding the charge on my credit card I then had called since the credit card was under my name and told them I did not authorized 589 to go through my credit card someone finally called me back a week later she said she would speak to her manager because this was a special case. In the mean time we tried to log onto our account to see these grants and it keeps saying we need an access code my husband even checked his junk mail and nothing was sent to us we also never received anything in the mail. No one got back to me regarding the charge on my credit card so I phoned again and left a message regarding an up date I had a Dave phone me back he told me they had my husband on recording saying he agreed to the charge of 589 dollars I asked if I could listen to the recording he say someone would have to call me back so I could listen to it. Then he told me because my husband had used my credit card that he was the one who is fraudulent and he threatened me that he had to make a report and report my husband to the police and we are going to always have serious issues if we ever need to apply for another credit card . I told him that I already spoke to my credit card company and canceled the credit card and they knew what was going on. Dave was surprised to hear that I had already talked to my credit card company and said that we were in trouble even though my credit card company told me everything was fine. I then told him we cannot access our account online we have no access code he asked if we checked our junk mail and I said we looked everywhere and we have no access to this account. I told him we are paying for service that does not exist . Dave could not find an access code to my husbands account. He told me he would call me back by 4 o clock today to resolve the issue. We will see if he calls back...

Hi Eddie, to answer your question: I’d been looking for funding for my business for over a year and I found nothing. A lot of time and effort wasted. After signing up to the CSBF site I was able to find 4 different programs that I was eligible for. Within 2 weeks I heard back and received 2 separate no interest government grants. The CSBF is completely worth it, I wish I knew about this site last year. I recommend it to anyone with a focused business goal and objective as you'll get the money that you spend right back in funding.

Has anyone used this site before? I called them and spoke with someone named Michael it sounded legit but it also feels like a lot of money to spend on something I cannot be guaranteed will work for me. Anyone who has found success with the Centre care to comment?

Much appreciated,
Eddie.

Yes, the CFSBF charges a fee. But it's a business; no one does anything for free. You don't work for free, don't expect others to do it either. Also read other reviews about this company with a grain of salt. There are a lot of angry customers out there who are mad because they didn't get the funding they wanted...yup, not everyone will get funding and it says so RIGHT on the sites front page. It also lists, right below the company's name, that they are "Not affiliated with any government." I've been using the database for a few months now and am continuously impressed with the amount of information they provide about their company/services, not to mention that they are clearly keeping all their programs up to date. I would recommend this service to anyone that is confident in their business plan and willing to make an investment.

I found the number for the CSBF no their site and contacted them just to get some more info. I spoke with Paul he didnt give me a last name. Paul was very courteous and professional he stayed on the phone with me for well over half an hour and answered all my questions. I was able to start using the database the same day and found a bunch of programs that my business is eligible for. The only downfall is that a lot of the programs are repayable but I did find and apply for two grant programs that I was eligible for. Overall, worth the price

The Canadian Government really does provide a lot of different opportunities to small business owners to get the funding they need. What the government lacks is an organized easy to use system in order to figure out what these programs are and how you can apply and hopefully be approved for them, this is where the Centre came in. I was referred to the Centre through an old business associate of mine; I was skeptical to pay for an online service but was very pleasantly surprised. The database takes all of the headache and guess work out of the process. I was already declined for bank funding when I decided to search through the Centre's database, after a relatively short period of time and little effort on my end I was able to get no interest funding from the government along with a government mentor. This kind of assistance was invaluable to my business and I feel that without the Centre I would probably never have found the programs I was able to receive funding from. I would recommend the Centre's services to any entrepreneur seeking funding.

THE CSBF does exactly what they say they do. Dealing with any business online can be tricky and i spent a long time doing my research and my view on this matter is that the CSBF promised to make the process headache free and easy and that's exactly what they did. This program really works; you can get all of the work of applying for funding done in a day. Everything is in one place and it is easily laid out so you can understand what you need to do in order to apply. I am very happy with the service I got and the results.

After obtaining access to the online database from the Centre for Small Business Financing, I was able to apply to multiple grant programs in a short period of time. It was all so easy to navigate and saved me tons of time researching. I don't think the people posting in this thread have gained from the database, because their business didnt have the right criteria to be approved for different government programs. I was eligible for numerous grants and other assistance programs, and more should be coming out later this year which I will apply to.

The Centre for Small Business Financing made my business dream a reality! We called because we found their website on google and decided to give the online database a try. Sure enough, after 4 months of applying to different government programs, we finally received funding which helped us get the business up and running.

My husband and I opened our own bakery last year after many years of being unable get our dreams off the ground. We started searching for funding programs but kept coming up short, we stumbled upon the CSBF by accident but I must admit that this database is great. I know nothing about running a business all I ever wanted to do was bake my own creations and be able to make a living doing it. The database makes it super easy to narrow down what programs are available to you. Getting funding still takes some work and you have to apply for all of the programs yourself and even after that several of them rejected us but after a few weeks and a relatively easy application process we got the funding we needed. We are having our grand opening event in a month and this probably wouldn't have happened had we not been approved for funding.

Good luck out there, we are proof that if you keep trying you ll get what you need.

Hello Entrepreneur73,
I am sorry to hear about your negative experience, but this is a great company! At first, I tried to search for programs to fund my business on my own, but I ended up wasting so much time as I was not qualified for most of the programs I read about. However, I was lucky to find the Centre for Small Business Financing online. The CSBF showed me all of the programs I was eligible for, so I did not have to waste time reading through programs I would not even have a shot at. It was very convenient and well worth the price. I won a few grants, which have really helped me start my own business. I would definitely recommend CSBF to anyone thinking about starting a new business, but unable to do so due to his or her financial situation

I have had a very good experience with the CSBF. When I was looking to get my business started, I applied to some of their programs. I will admit that it was very time consuming, but it definitely paid off. The reason I have my business today is because of CSBF. I would have never been able to afford starting up my business without them. You do have to pay a price for the service, but it pays off in the end. Like most working people, I did not have time to do these searches on my own, so paying to use CSBF was well worth my time and money as I was easily matched with grants that I was eligible for. I won a few of them, and was quickly able to accumulate enough to start my business. I would not have my business today had it not been for the help I received from CSBF.

My dream has always been to sell custom t-shirts. However, my efforts were never successful due to lack of resources. Last year, I became especially committed to finding a way to start a successful business, so I began doing some intense research on funding programs. When I came across the Centre for Small Business Financing, I did my usual investigation. The CSBF definitely got my attention! I was discussing my plans with a few coworkers, when my manager told me that his wife’s friend opened a thriving restaurant after receiving funds from CSBF. I was so excited to start my own business, that when I got home that day I got on the CSBF database to research what funds I was eligible for. Although it was time consuming, the applications were simple. I was not awarded funds for every program I applied for, but after a few weeks I received sufficient funds to start my business. I am so happy I finally was able to open my business. Today, the business is still going strong thanks to the funds I received from CSBF. I will always recommend using CSBF to anyone wanting to start a business. Had my boss not recommended them to me, I might not be living my dream!

I'm not really sure about the experiences that many of these other people had, but I know that when I used SBFC, they were nothing but helpful and polite. My wife and I decided to start a small cafe back in 2013 when both of us lost our government jobs. She was a teacher at a low SES school district that was subject to budget cuts, and I have worked for the municipal clerk's office for the past 10 years until we too suffered layoffs. That was when we both decided that it was time to pursue our lifelong desire to run a small cafe together. With much hesitation and reluctance, my first impression of SBFC was that it was extremely overwhelming and too much information all at once. To be honest, I didn't know where to look when I first found their website. However, I called the number at the top of the page, and was greeted by a representative who helped me find my way through the system. The most surprising thing was that SBFC was so full of resources that they connected me to grants and applications that I didn't even know we would qualify for. I am very thankful for their help, and hope others find their services to be as beneficial to their small businesses' success.

Having trouble with funding your business can render you to shut it down. This problem is common among small businesses as they have little benefits in terms of borrowing. It is with this that I have turned to Small Business Finance Center for financial information on reliable loans. They are not only reliable but provide a list of lenders with affordable terms of borrowing.

If you have tried the site of Small Business Finance Centre, you will know that all of these are not true. Try visiting their site at www.grants-loans.org and you will know that they are truly a one helpful site here. I have used their platform and it helped me a lot in finding a loan for a very important cause. It gave me not one headache but they have guided me on whatever I need and gave me the right steps to take. You cant get that from any other site but from them. This site has been a great help for me and my family.

Just signed up today and I realized it was a complete scam after I logged in.
I asked for the money back right away because this is different than what I have been told, and they told me i can't after i logged in.
I called 5 min after i logged in and told them to keep the first charge but don't change me the second instalment because their site is completely useless.
They said they can't do that because i logged in, and logging in means I have agreed to their terms.

Im in the process of reporting them as a fraudulent business, and there is no way they are taking my hard earned money for the useless database. I would find much more informative sources on google for free than on their database.

Stay away from this site.

Approval of loans and grants has become a key problem among small business owners. With the ever increasing competition form big businesses, finding grants for your business is not easy. I applied for funds with agencies that Small Business Finance Center suggested and was approved. This was a surprise as I had tried with different lenders and no avail. They saved my business and my livelihood.

Do a google search of this company and you will come up with many many negative reviews, all of which are instantly trolled by Steven Trustrum, the question is... Why is this company so aware of every complaint board on the Internet?

My own personal issues with CFSBF aren't so much the product, you pay a fee for a simplified method of seeing grants and loan options, and that's exactly what you get. My issues come from the shady method of selling the service. The salesperson I spoke to went on a long rant about how they now require a deposit of $350.00 for services that would be fully refundable after funding was secured, it made sense that they wouldn't want to work for free and they implied that their fee would come from the government grant.

Several weeks later I recieved a letter confirming that I had paid the initial money and the second installment of $297.00 would be withdrawn in 30 days... This was not discussed on the "recorded" phone conversation and was not agreed on. This is irrefutably a scam, up to the surprise billing it seemed a legitimate service, but your actions have shown otherwise, I have actually achieved funding from this program but at this point feel there is no chance of seeing my initial $350.00 refunded as promised.

Back again, I did get a call from these rascals and they have discontinued the hard copy of the programs the problem with this is I purchased an expensive program that has ended with NO update lists to work with. The man I talked to was of NO help and just kept saying that they binder program had ended but my payment was made for this program. I suggest that they provide the service on line if in fact they are as reasonable as they pretend to be.
It also appears that it is a front for trying to get a customer to pay huge sum of money to have a so called consultant prepare a business plan in order to get a grant with money up front and NO guarantee of any form of success. I would suggest that anyone thinking along these lines of financing to avoid these scam artists.

Just saying, they did not put a gun to your head to purchase anything. If you buy lottery, you want to win, but you don't always. It's technically the same thing. You buy their package, which contain all the info you need to apply for grand/loans, which yes, you could have look it up yourself, but are too lazy to do so, and then you all expect to win the jackpot. If you're initially not a good candidate to the program, or have bad credit, do not complaint and blame it on the world. YOU are the one who agreed to purchase it, no one forced you. On that note, I did purchase the program, applied but did not get approved. I did not go back and complaint, because my credit was simply bad. That is on me, not anyone else fault.

A lottery ticket is $1 and no one is deluded about one's chances at winning, nor treats "lottery winnings" as a reasonable potential income source. This is the same ridiculous example used by MLM marketers to get you involved in Herbalife, Amway or 'It Works!' (which, incidentally, offer the same likelihood for financial success as a lottery ticket but with far greater time/capital investment)

I purchased the program that involved a binder with a listing of the various gov. programs and at one time I did receive the promised updates. I moved and due to working in the Oil Fields I did not use the programs however after coming home and moving I need the updates after 10 years and no one will talk to me or send me the promised updates. I have a lot of money in this company and feel quite bitter that they will not address my issues. Also I mailed a letter to their address on King St. In Toronto and it came back deliverable. This seems to have turned into a real scam and I suggest that everyone that does not get some reasonable satisfaction get on social media and give details about this company. The company I am writing about is SBFC Small Business Finance Center. I ordered my binder from Ottawa address at that time. Remember hit them with social media the more the better.

If you contacted me and I passed your information along to customer service, but you didn't hear from them, you should have tried emailing me again so I could push it along. Clearly, by responding to you the first time, you know that I am accessible, and this very scenario helped out Jocelynn above. I'm fairly certain I know who you are (initials MW?), but I won't email that person without confirmation because I need to know who I am trying to help out in order to provide the correct details to customer service, and to possibly provide them with an alternative email or phone number. I try very hard to work with people who contact me directly to resolve issues, but I cannot do so if you don't follow up to let me know you're not having any progress through the usual channels (as I did with Jocelynne, above.) Seeing as you have not done so, and not mentioned when this occurred, I can only assume you contacted me on Monday (my most recent email of this nature), so I will go look into it for that person and hope it is you (if your initials are M.W., they've tried calling you and emailing you with no response.)

Marc,

The Centre's services do not claim to provide anything you can't find on your own. What we do is gather it all into one place so it can be searched through more easily and faster. If you **subjectively** don't feel that time and frustration saved is worth the cost, it is always in your hands not to buy annual access to our services. **Provably**, however, there are clients of ours who obtained government funding and feel differently, however, as a quick visit to our website will show.

As for not having a chance to make an informed decision, I'm afraid I can only point out that if you were talking with one of our representatives, you would have been doing so on the phone. If nothing else, you can say "I have to think about this" or just hang up. Our representatives do not possess any special powers that force people to reach for their wallets against their will. Indeed, if we're calling you in the first place it's only in response to you taking the initiative to contact us first because we do no cold calling whatsoever.

BEWARE! Now they are tricking people to do some work for them for free. Offering serious salary and talking about "being a boss for yourself". Well I agree at first even I got sunk into that fairytale but when it came to "trial project" I got surprised that it might take WEEKS! ORLY? Funny thing is they "offer" compensation for "trial". IRL you the only thing you get is being dumped after you submit what you've done.

Check this out http://ca.linkedin.com/pub/dusan-ceko/15/856/111 says "Current position as Marketing Director at IMA Of Canada" well when you Google it http://imacanada.ca/about-the-ima-cc/ima-cc-2012-board-of-directors/ says nothing about Mr. Dusan Ceko. Guess what? Because he most likely never were a member of the board.

If you try to find any connection between his Linkedin profile and Consumer Centre Inc you end up with nothing. Why? Because you need to look legit to get new customers for their fraud scheme.

I have learnt a few things with dealing with this company. ... Always search for reviews! Before dealing with a company that has access to your credit card!
Stupid me signed up, wow 750 bucks! My guts knotted up and knew that was stupid! But I spent hours and hours, and did find finance for a bookkeeping course, funny as they didn't know they were on this database, and told me that it had to be a scam! So went though it, finished, went through four emails of answering the same questions and writing a testimonial, finally I got my money back! ... Now not finished yet! ! Apparently, when you sign up you also accept 2 months of free magazine, and then after that is 24.97 a month! ! I never accept magazines, and have never received any of these so called magazines! So called them, number not in service, found their number of the BBB compliant forum! Of all places! Left a message, emailed them, got an email back in French, called yet again, got hung up on. Called again! Wow! Called my credit card company... I really hope this is finally the end!

A point of clarification to address; after doing some research, I've found that the user posting here as "pissedofff" is posting the same complaint elsewhere as "jennpnc" and "Jennifer Ponce." Having tracked that down, I had a name I could look up in our records.

Jennifer Ponce received a full refund on March 29, 2012, a week after her post here.

After submitting proof that she did indeed receive funding from the government (because that is a condition of this refund: you have to scan and send us proof. Just sending an email from the funding agency saying you've been accepted is not sufficient.) In fact, she conducted a success story interview with us about her experience. You can see it here:

http://www.grants-loans.org/articleview.php?id=660&t=graphic-designer-betters-her-bc-business-with-14400-in-government-funding

In complaints she made on other sites she said "But here is the kicker, I signed up for a bc government loan which i was approved..." However, the paperwork she sent us on her government funding was regarding a self-employment benefits program, which is not a loan.

Also, it's worth noting her account was opened with us 16 days before she received her funding, and in turn received her full refund for her success and did an interview with us. That means after only being a client for 16 days, she got the money she needed thanks to our services. I can't say why she brings up the loan, why she says she was quoted a wrong price, etc., but her original post here clearly doesn't jive without what she was telling us.

Yes, this actually means one of the posters in this thread that the anti-CFSBF posters are rallying around as "proof" the Centre is a "fraud" is actually a successful client we helped to get government funding.

Go figure.

My apologies for the double post. I didn't think it went through the first time due to all the website addresses.
