In August 2007 we purchased a Craftsman 4 Ton low profile service jack. In March 08 we returned the jack because it was leaking oil and would not hold the weight of a small car. The jack was replaced, but just this week (9/13/2008), the replacement jack was also leaking and would not hold weight. Luckily the we had already placed jack stands under the car, otherwise it could have dropped onto my husband. So, being loyal Craftsman/Sears customers, we went back to Sears expecting them to take care of the problem, since obviously it was a defective product. We were told that they would not return the product for a refund or replacement (which we wouldn't want) because the 1 year warrenty was from the original purchase date of August of 2007. Now, we have had two jacks in 12 month and 3 weeks both of which have been defective. They didn't seem concerned that it was a safety issue either. We maintain our tools and have never had something like this occur. My recommendation is to not trust your life with a Sears Craftsman jack - which is what you do anytime you use a jack when working on a car. Not only can you not trust them to work, but you cannot trust Sears to back up their products even when they are a danger to their customers. Shameful. After 30 years of shopping at Sears for everything from tools, appliances, clothing, etc... it will be a cold day in Hades when I walk in there again to spend a dime. I am so dissapointed that a trusted brand name has sunk to such a sad level of customer care.

I bought what sounds like the same jack over a year ago. I've used it maybe 4 times. I recently went to use it again and it won't even lift my car. I called Sears and told them about it and they basically told me sorry, too bad. I too have grown more disappointed with the service and quality of their tools. I don't know of any real way to deal with it other than no longer buying their products or limiting myself to only their lifetime warranty tools, which I will definitely do.

I have the same Jack. 1st one purchased Dec.07, replaced Nov.08 after it sat in the corner for 4 months. Now went to take the replacement one back on May 09 because it also started leaking and was told that the 1 year warranty is only good from the original date of purchase. Not when it was replaced.
Now they have changed the color of them from Silver to Yellow & Black to make you think you are buying a different product, But it is the same JUNK!!! Stay away from this product. This Product needs to be recalled before someone is seriously hurt by it. If Someone hasn't been already.

I bought the same floor jack in dec of 07. (silver and black) I will be going to sears tonight to see if they will do anything for me. It failed about 2 months ago. I'm so surprised reading this thread, but I will never buy a craftsman floor jack again. I've had 30 dollar walmart floor jacks work flawlessy for years, but I decided to go for a decent jack that locks and unlocks by the handle. 140 dollars down the tubes, and the thing has now been replaced buy another crappy walmart jack that cost 25 dollars.

I too bought the 4ton Craftman jack last july 08 only used it maybe 5to 6 times. Went to use it today may 09 and it would'nt pick up my sandrail that hardly weighs anything. Noticed a puddle of fluid coming out from under the jack. So I went on line and noticed I'm not the only one with this problem. This needs to be recalled. It will get somebody hurt. Going to try and return ASAP.

we bought the same 4 ton jack and didnt really need it at the time so it sat in the shop for months. When we decided to use it we used it about 4 or 5 times when it failed to work. there was a big puddle of oil on the floor. We have been a sears customer for years so we took the jack back and tried to get it fixed. They said it was no longer under warranty and that the model number was no longer valid. They told us they would try to help us in locating the part to fix it with but three weeks went by and we didnt hear anything we went to pick the jack up.They said basically they couldnt help us. This jack is dangerous and it is gonna get somebody hurt.We want be buying anything from sears again . NEVER 8-10-2009

Same thing. Bought the 4-ton in 2006. In 2008, it started leaking, still usable but would not raise to max height. 2009, it cannot raise at all, tried replacing jack, no go. If you guys search online, you guys will find many threads about these cheap China made jacks that Sears is selling. These are poor jacks, I did not know until it is too late. I am going to go buy the same one, return the old one using the new warranty. I guess that will be the only option. And then sell the new one :) and buy an american made jack. 9-14-2009

Same story... 4 ton Craftsman low profile jack leaks oil; Sears refuses to do anything about it (not even provide a seal/repair kit).
