This company (if you can call it that) called me a year or so ago and asked if I would like to try some free magazines; they said that I would not be obligated to renew after the trial. I get these magazines (which I never really had much time to read) and after a few months start getting renewal notices for them. I think to myself, well if I don't respond then they will know that I don't want them anymore and keep on about my business...Come to find that they automatically got me into a 30 month contract at $39.90 per month and billing me for these! That's a $1, 197 debt that I did not know I was agreeing to! This is a scam that is so smoothly perpetrated you don't even know you are being scammed until after the fact! Then when you try to get out of any more renewals they put you onto another company that has to do that and they try to get you to agree that you agreed to the contract before they will cancel renewal and you go around in circles trying to get them to understand that you never agreed to this contact in the first place so how can you now get taped agreeing to the information so you can be cancelled from any further renewals and phone calls...It has been a nightmare dealing with them and I want to sue them! If anyone has one goijng for them please add my name to the list!

I was called about 18 months ago to subscribe to their magazines, it told them what magazines I read and like mainly nascar spint cup and anything nascar they told me they had them but that was a BIG DECEPTIVE LIE they told me after I signed up they could not get those magazines but would send me what ever they had that had to do with racing, that was not much now I get what ever they want to send me car and driver, sports mags car buyer mags hunting and fishing what ever that want. ive call and tried to get out of contract since they could not send me what I requested. they flat out refused to cancel the contract so I have been paying for the last yr. and half or two this company is a BIG SCAM I tell everyone I know if they get a call from them to just hang up because if you say no thank you they use every hard tactic to get you hooked into a contract. I wish there was a way to get out of this and get my money back we should all get together and start a class action lawsuit against them whos with me!

I as well ended up in their cross-hairs of fraud; I should have known better than to agree to give a card number even though I told them I am not interested. They gave me same smooth bull about needing a card in order to cancel. (I blame myself for believing this) But the thing about their recording instructions, saying you have to answer yes to the questions of "you are ordering" and the other one; and telling you that all you have to do when you receive the first correspondence from them is to cancel at that point.
Well I smelled a rat when I had not gotten that letter in the mail correspondence. That is when I looked up their name on the internet and came upon this info about them. Called my bank and they cancelled the card and recorded who this company is for future encounters.
The big thing for me is now I have 32 companies I do business with and will have to wait for the new card to inform them all and deal with the transactions that will surely happen before getting the new card number. MAN what a hassle. I end up doing what one lady said above, and just load a prepaid card for such transactions; just have to remember to keep loading it. There are increasing pitfalls as time progresses in order to do business in a more convenient way, and thus more opportunities for those who CHOOSE to reward themselves off the backs of others.
Last Word: I will never, ever ; either by mail or phone call submit to anyone offering anything again. Yes "I am mad as hell and I am not going to take it anymore". They give a name to their so called companies for business? When what they really aspire to is to have a license to steal.

I had an experience with this company in Spring of 2013. Within 24 hours of the phone call, I called back and CANCELLED everything.
Beginning in the fall of 2015, I began receiving more called from North American Reader Service. I have always said Not Interested and Hung up.
yesterday, they called me again. This time the guy was really smart. He started off verifying my name and address. Then asked how I liked my magazines. I said I didn't want any magazines. He told me I had a subscription and it had Automatic renewal. Then he offered to switch me to his supervisor to "discontinue" the automatic renewal and to put me on their "do not call" list.
I was on the phone with this "supervisor" for about 10 minutes. He said he couldn't turn off the "automatic renewal" unless I confirmed the VISA card number associated with my account that began with "4" that needed to be updated as of April 2014. This was supposedly to prove my identity.
He would not give me the last 4 digits of the credit card. Since I did not have a Visa Card that matched what he had, he said I would continue to be charged for magazines that I did not want or need because I would not give him a VISA card number. Then He said just give him ANY Visa card number that began with "4" and he would turn it off. He became very rude and obnoxious.
He did give me a "customer service" number to call. I called and was told that the ONLY account I had in their system had been cancelled in 2013, (within hours of creation), and verified that the Visa card number did begin with "4" and it expired in April 2014.
So, the reason they called in the first place was they wanted to start back billing me for more magazines and couldn't because the card had expired.
The customer service rep I spoke with was very apologetic and told me I would not be charged for any more magazines.
after all this, I called back the number that I had originally received the call from. I told them how mad I was and what had happened.
They promised that they wiped my phone number and contact from their system and I would not be receiving any more calls.
There should be some way to prosecute companies that operator like this.

This happen to us on September 2015, They got my Husband to give them my card number. I call and told my bank that I did not give them my permission that they somehow got my husband to give them a update because we did subscribe to a magazine company in 2014. Subscriber service, which is also a FRAUD. Subscriber Service does not have a web site and if you look up their number on line there have been many complain. I notice they stop taking payment in January 2015, never got a letter or anything for no payment. but we still got magazine send to us. A few months later North America Reader Choice call up my husband. I think they work together somehow. Anyways my bank was able to reimburse my money back for the two month and said they will block this company from taking out any more payment. Some how they were able to charge my card again in November. i called my bank again, they gave my money back and i cancel my bank card. Since the "Fraud" company wasn't able to take money out for January they call my Husband and told him the cancellation fee is 1197.00 but are welling to low it down to 800. "yea sure let me give you my new card number for that amount" lol They just mad because I was able to cancel my card, and without that card there was no way they can charge us without calling and harassing. good luck with that "Fraud" Yes people my husband make a mistake by giving them my bank card, but always to never use your bank card or checking account over the phone or online purchase. I have a prepaid card that I use when i rent red box or buying something online. Hopefully you are able to cancel your card before its too late.

Phone Number for all who have been asking is [protected]. Donna Price x5839 scammed me into giving her information. The same thing just happened to me and I reported them to my bank. I also called the above number back to complain and got a Gentleman named Ed Kobs, who works in customer care. He seemed extremely surprised at the things I was telling him and he said he was going to cancel whatever "subscription" they think I signed up for, and put my cell # on a DO NOT CALL LIST. Try calling the number above and see if you can get help from there.

SCAM SCAM SCAM OMG, all these stories are the same. This is some kind of nasty racket. I thought I was cancelling this too, and instead I got two new charges of $39.93 on my credit card. This place needs to be stopped. They lie. They trick-record you, getting you to say "yes" to other questions, when in fact they have you agreeing to take these darn magazines. Don't know what to do but I'm calling the Better Business Bureau asap.

I just called the [protected] number and explained that I did not order all these magazines and have tried to return them. The person I spoke with told me no to worry, they would take my information off the list, etc. We will see. I told him if I got anymore magazines, I would take this to the BBB. He commented that I would probably get one more. I don't even know how this came about! I am not going to pay for these magazines. I know the ones I subscribe to, and it is not Elle, Better Homes, Woman's Day or Family Circle, etc. I hope and pray this kind of activity can be stopped.

I was sent 2 magazines that I did not order. North American Readers Service sent them and a comment card. They gave me an address and a telephone number that is bogus. I was wondering if you might be able to help me. I need a phone # to get a hold of them. They are North American Readers Service.

I got the same kind of call in 2014. I contacted each magazine to cancel subscription. Have started getting the magazines again after a May 21, 2015 call from the company. July 21, 2015 talked to the billing department and was told that my account was closed. Just got a call today stating that My account had a renewal notice on it. Only way they would verify my account was by credit card number in full. I hope this ends soon!

I am in the same boat as everyone above. I live in Southern California and I don't even read this kind of garbage. I was told they could renew the magazines that I was getting on my own like Discover, Biblical Archaeology, Archaeology, and Smithsonian. Instead they send me O, Womens Daily, Redbook, Star, Glamour, Family Circle, Marie Claire, More and others. They are ultra liberal and have the most garbage in them. Horrible experience and it never stops. This has been going on for years. I cannot get rid of them! HELP! The regular phone number has been discontinued. What a joke on me!

How does one get rid of this company? They say they cannot do anything unless verbally "no" is said. Then they slide your credit card number into the conversation asking if this is correct saying "no" creates the viscous circle of questions again.
Frustrated with these non honest personnel.

I am having the same problem. For about a year I received calls asking if my magazine were arriving in good condition, I was not receiving any magazines. After hanging up on theses people multiple times I finally got tired of it and asked to speak to a supervisor. I explained that I wasn't receiving nor did I want to receive any magazines, and please take me off your list. He said I got this offer on the internet. I told him I don't do the surveys or click the adds so BS. Fast forward about four months and I start receiving magazines in the mail. Things lil Oprah and shape and good housekeeping, let me tell you I am not a domestic type of girl, these are not magazines I would ever read. Finally get a call from them on 6-16-15, stating my subscription is going to automatically renew for another five years, after jumping their hoops to end that I find that they took 59.90 out of my bank. I had just lost my job so I only had 24. In my bank. Called the bank, closed my account.(6-23-15) Called north American readers choice, after about 40 mins of them trying to discount this subscription and me telling them I don't want and am not paying for any magazines she finally agrees to reverse the charges on my account. Hopefully this is over, I am now overdrawn on my account and owe my bank. Honestly who in their right mind would pay $1700 for crap magazines.

That's what is happening to me. I decided to cancel my card out but apparently they are hacking because I didn't give them my card number but they had it. I know that they take the word (yes) AND removed the words no replacing them with you saying (yes) it's called editing the confirmation. If I could afford to sue them i would believe that!😣

This also happened to me. it started way back in mid to late 2013 where I had been contacted by a representative informing me that I qualified for a free Wal-Mart shopping gift card in the amount of $100-$300. She also mentioned that I would be receiving free magazines with this offer and that I had a month to cancel them. And so I remember setting a reminder on my Smart Phone Calendar, and when that day came, I called and asked them to cancel the Magazine Subscription. The clerk told me that they were taking care of it and that I would still be receiving the free gift cards for Wal-Mart in the mail within the next week or so. And sure enough I received them. Not quite what I was expecting, as they were simply Wal-Mart vouchers, that is after purchasing a certain amount of groceries and other stuff, I could then use the vouchers to shop there. Then close to a month later, I start receiving magazines (ESPN, Forbes, Motor Trend, Popular Mechanics, Esquire, Inc, Details, etc.). Then shortly after receiving these magazines, I get a call from these people asking if I have been receiving my magazines on time and such. And to keep a long story short, during my conversation with them, I told them that I had called to have them cancel the subscription. And as you all know, they put me on hold and transferred me to their "supervisor" so that he could supposedly resolve the issue. Of course he did not, he just gave me a number to call, and when I called the number, the man I spoke with asked if I had seen any charges made to my bank account, to which I answered No, then he also asked me if I was getting any letters from them in the mail, to which I also answered No. Then once hearing my responses, he told me he would take care of it. And that after several weeks, the magazines would stop being delivered. The magazines were still coming after several months, and I was still receiving calls from these same people. After speaking with several of their representatives, and telling them repeatedly that I had cancelled this service, they kept transferring me to different managers and supervisors. One thing I have learned during this whole process is that you need to be firm and bold with these people, as they are not concerned about your financial situation. Their goal is to simply scam you into a really long contract (30 months) so that they can get paid their money. Thankfully though I spoke with an employee today, and he was courteous and understanding of my situation and he went ahead and cancelled my account. After thinking this thing through, I realized that the people who were calling me before were scammers posing under the alias of "North America's Reader's Choice." The Employee though whom I spoke with today sounded very professional and sounded legit. I was very thankful that he answered my phone call and not someone else. He basically cancelled my account out of good will. So here is some advice I can give to those who are also dealing with these same people. Whatever you do, do not agree to do a Recorded Agreement with them over the phone, because once you answer 'yes' to those questions they ask, that's their way of getting you signed up with North America's Reader's Choice. As long as you have not received any letter from them in the mail, you are not In a binding contract with them. Do not be deceived by these people, as they are very persistent and slick. They may keep calling you and they may even continue to send you magazines, but again, as long as they are not mailing you any bills, you are fine. For you are not under a binding contract.

This happened to me just yesterday. They had me so confused I didn't know what to do. After researching, I discovered that this started with me back in June 2014 with a company called "Subscriber Services, Inc." out of Colorado. Had to do with a $250.00 voucher that I supposedly won(ha ha). I now discovered that the State of Colorado won a lawsuit in March of this year banning this company & its owners of doing anymore business. Now I get a call from North American Readers Choice informing me that they will help me to do away with an automatic renewal that I didn't even know existed. However, it was going to cost me $49.90 a month for 30 months to complete my original contract agreement. After that, the original contract would not renew automatically. I kept questioning them about the money I originally paid. They kept putting different people on the line explaining things that I was so confused I went along with what they were telling me. But now that I found out about the lawsuit, I tried calling North American Readers Choice customer service number. However, every time you call they tell you that ALL representatives are doing technical training and to call back later. I used the number they originally called me from and I told them I wanted to cancel everything I agreed to the day before. She said she was not the right person & she couldn't cancel it. So, I explained how I went online & found the lawsuit that showed that these are scams and we consumers must be aware of it. Wow, now all of a sudden she was able to cancel the agreement & said that my payment would be credited back to my account. I will watch & see what happens. I am sure that I am not done with them but gosh darn, I will not let them take anymore advantage of me or anyone else.

I had the same thing happen to me. They called me saying I won a free rebate and asked if I wanted to get free magazines. I tried changing my credit card number but they kept calling me and sending me bills. When I called and said I didn't have the money they said they had pre-paid the companies and could not stop my service. I had to scream at the lady just to get my monthly payment down. There was no out with them, and I didn't know what was happening. It seems to me that a lot of people have an issue with this company. Why don't we do anything? Everyone says if someone else starts it to let them know but why don't we just start it.

I received the same call. I am sooooo glad that I immediately searched their "company" name after getting a bad vibe & seeing everyone else's complaints, I called my bank & & they are now issuing me a new card & being refunded the $59.90. Thank you all for your posts! Hopefully, through sites like this, we can help people from being scammed from these jerks!

I keep receiving calls from this company (I use that term loosely). They are very fast talkers and speak so fast that you can't really understand what they're saying, nor do you understand that they're tricking you into agreeing to a contract. When they ask you questions, they talk so fast that the only thing you understand is your name when they say it, then of course you respond when you're name is spoken, then they ask if they have your name correct, you respond "yes". They use this strategy to get you to say the word "yes" then use this against you when you begin to get charged & call to complain, saying that they have you on a recorded line "agreeing" to the contract & charges. I don't even know how they got my bank information. This is absolutely a scam, a big, fat, scam, STAY AWAY! If there are any class action suits against them, PLEASE include me. I don't care about getting a large settlement, I just want to get them to leave me alone & stop taking money from my account!

Just happened to me...I finally got real uneasy during the call and hung up. Then they called me back saying they needed to tape this call to cancel auto renewal. I finally hung up on them again but not soon enough. Not 5 minutes later a charge from them hit my credit card! Fast talkers and I thought I was savvy! Hopefully Chase will get this charge off my account and any future accounts.

Contact the better business Bureau and get them to stop. My husband just became part of this scam and was told he had a subscription that they needed to start payment for on December 2, 2014. I had him contact the credit card company to change his card and dispute the first charge. We'll see how this plays out.

I was also scammed by this company and cannot get rid of them. I paid to end my contract, but they still keep calling and make it impossible to get out. I'm not sure how to rid myself of them. If there is a class-action lawsuit going, I would happily be part of it.
