Fraud & cheating!
Complaint Rating: 89 % with 9 votes
In 2003 we opened an account with Direct TV. We were very dissatisfied and canceled our service. Then we were charged for something we shouldn't of been and refuse to pay. Keep this in mind, a week after we got our account my brother also got an account. When he called and gave his name and social security number their system kicked it out because he had one digit wrong. So it is suppose to be impossible to get an account if the social does not match the name. July of this year my husband was arrested on an old warrant for obtaining something under someone else's social. Come to find out our account had been in my husband's name but another man's social security number. After days and days of trying to contact someone we finally talked to a woman named Rebecca in their fraud department. She cleared the account of fraudulent activity but refuse to give a letter stating that it would be a liability because they cannot say for sure that my husband didn't do this on purpose. Even though their system is suppose to prevent something like this. If we wanted to obtain an account and make someone else liable for it then why in the world would my husband use his real name. Still have not got anywhere with them for a solution. Any suggestions would be great but the only thing we can think of is to hire a lawyer. Also if you ever get a chance to talk to Rebecca in the fraud department, find a really high bridge and jump off.

We ordered a Direct Tv package. They brought the wrong package and after many phone calls they refused to bring and install the correct package. So we canceled within the three days you are allowed and sent the equipment back. The following month our account was charged and the installation fee that was supposed to be free was also stolen from our account. We never signed anything or authorized our account to be charged. I have called numerous times over the past 3 months and am still waiting for a refund check.

Direct Tv is a lousy company. They are deceptive in their advertising and their customer assistance is no assistance at all. I would strongly recommend not using them.

In September 2007 Verizon offered a package deal includeing Direct Tv for an extra $15.00 a month. 3 months later and we are still paying $62.94 a month for Direct tv basic package. We have tryed several times to get this matter taken care of both through Verizon and Direct TV and they say they have no record of the offer. My advice to everyone is Never get involved with any offer through Verizon for Direct Tv.

Get a lawyer and sue there butts off. Remember to document everything, even copies off all these complaints.
I'm starting a e-mail boycott.

I have had Direct Tv service for over five years. I had my service moved and upgraded to my new home on Dec,7th.2007. The installation was very messy, they left wires hanging everywhere inside and outside the house, never connected the ground cable outside for electrical safety, and we lost signal every few minutes. I called and complained and Direct TV sent another tech out almost two weeks later. He stated the first tech was fired and he “fixed the service”. Within 15 minutes we began to lose signal again.

I called and e-mail Direct TV about this, offering pictures to prove the service was installed sloppy and didn’t work.
I e-mailed them several times, it’s easier because their call centers have people that can’t speak clear English and are very hard to deal with and understand. Finally I told them to cancel my service because they couldn’t meet there commitment to me and provide a working service. I also asked for a return autho# to send their receiver back to them.

Around a week later Jan 11th.2008 I received a disconnect e-mail and bill for 93.00 .I e-mailed them saying I had no service for that month so how do I owe them.

On Jan 18th.2008 a box with return instructions was delivered to my house for the receiver.

On Jan 22nd. 2008 I saw Direct TV was pulling $562.83 from my checking account. I took of work and went to my bank to stop this from happening, I signed a stop pay but my bank had to investigate it first. I was told to contact Direct TV and ask them to stop the transaction.

I called Direct TV several times, I was told the charges were for an early termination of service. I told them again I never had a working service to begin with. I got nowhere with the call center, the language problem was just to much, I asked for some one that could speak better English and I was repeated the same thing again. Direct TV used a check card I had used before to pay my bill on-line and charged my account without my authorization $562.38.

When I got home that evening I received a bill from them stating what the charges were and it was due immediately.
No one that speaks good English will talk to me from Direct TV, THEY broke the law pulling money from my account without authorization, caused my account to bounce checks, left me unable to buy groceries this week for my family, I’ve lost two hours work as of today trying to clear this up. Tommorrow I have to go to my bank again and to an attorney.

What a nightmare, please pass this on to everyone to warn them about direct tv’s practices

I let my little brother use my debit card to make a payment over the phone for his deposit when he was setting up his acct and somehow I was put into their system as the acct holder. Nevermind to them the fact that they don't have my social sec. # or anything of that nature, they just put my name as the acct holder. Then my little brother wrecks his motorcycle and cannot work so of course the acct goes negative and now their collections place is calling me saying that their going to put this on my credit. These people are the worst frauds ever. They're as bad as Compass bank!

Direct tv allowed someone to open an account in my name with out any verification what so ever and did not question the party involved in the identity theft in any way shape or form. Now I am left with the stain of some irresponsible poor excuse for human beings. To say the least, I had and still have a current active account in good standing for over 6 years and whats suspicious is the moment the fraudulent account was opened no alert was made or should i say they just didn't care. SHAME ON YOU DIRECT TV!!! SHAME ON YOU!!!

Direct TV told me I would need a subpoena to get a copy of the agreement I signed.

I keep asking them for an agreement. I get a person in the Phillapeans who says they will put an email in for me, but they don't know the email address and don't have an address or a phone number.

Direct TV is set up so you can't get anywhere with them.

I sent in a request to my credit card to block any payments they want to charge me because there is no signed agreement. I'll have to wait and see what happens.

Well my complaint is probably a little less serious than some of the other complaints on here, but I haven't seen any that describe this situation so I thought I would post it. As most of you probably know, DirecTV has been adding HD to local markets. My market was lucky enough to be transitioned to HD this November.

Well, last week I get home, flip on the TV, change the channel to a local onel and it says that there is "multi-switch" error. I flip to the other locals and the same thing is coming up. I see in the guide that the program listings are showing that these local channels have programs in "hd" so I figured they were switching the locals to HD and maybe it is a problem on their side and is something their figuring out.

So a couple days later I check the locals and am getting the same message and decide to give DirecTV a call. After going through a few different things with a customer service rep. they are unable to figure out what the problem is. She says they will have to send out a technician, and charge me for the service.

Now I know I can get the insurance that is a monthly cost, but to me that is besides the point. Why should I have to pay for someone to come hook up my box so HD Locals show up when all the other HD channels work fine and the locals worked before they switched to HD.

If this isn't a major problem they are having with others during this local HD transition then I assume it was a problem that occurred during the installation - so why should I have to pay for this. The only thing the rep. can tell me ofcourse is, "I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but there is nothing I can do about it." Hmmm, that comment seems to be a common one when dealing with DirecTV customer service.

Direct tv is a rip off, I have owned my equipment for years and just recently moved with the movers package and now i lost my job, can't afford to have tv anymore so I canceled it now they tell me I broke this contract that i didn't know about, I want to sue direct tv, who is with me.

I had DirectTv in 2001 or 2002 & they SUCKED big time then too. They would send me a bill & after I paid it I would come home a day or two later & my service would be off. When I call & inquire about this they would tell me my bill was overdue & they need the payment for the next month in order to cut back on my service not to mention service was the worst. So I also cancelled. They sent me to collections but I refused to give them any more $$. Well now that time has run out for them to collect they are actually offering me 3 months free plus installation. Humph I wouldn't take them up on their offer if the service was free forever!
DirectTv has grown worse & I'm only happy I caught them in the beginning of their BS because taking $$ from someone's account without their permission & causing a dominoe effect to spiral out of control is ridiculous!

I would sue them also, start your own class action suit!

This is a scam that Direct Tv does to everyone who upgrades to a different receiver like a DVR. They don't tell anyone that they need to cancel service to the receiver that they are replacing. When you catch the mistake they say you can only get credit for the pass 90 days. I didn't catch it over 2 years and when I called back to cancel my service because they had ripped me off it was only then they gave me one year of credit. This is surely happening to millions of people, and it is dishonest as hell.

I HATE DirectTv-- I have to call them every month to get my bill straightened out. They like to charge me for the NFL sunday package that I do not get and have told them I do not want. So when I call them they say they will credit my account they then shut my cable of and charge me partial month fees and reconnect fees.

I had to call three times today- twice i called the 1800 number on the bill-- I was hung up on both times and one of the reps refused to spell his name or give his id.

Then I looked online and called 310-964-5000 I asked the operator for Chase (Chase Carey is the CEO). I got patched through to someone named Wayne. Wayne gave me a lousy $10/mnth credit to my acct for the next year (my contract is up Oct 16th). I told him 2 reps hung up on me and he acted like he could care less, so I called him out on it. I told him how lousy the company is and that I wish I researched them before signing up. He said they are actually noted as having one of the best customer service departments-- so I asked him why he didn't even care to ask for the ID #'s for the reps that hung up on me... he had no answer other than oh, yea I am going to get that from you as well.

Direct TV is one of the Crappiest I ever have come in contact with when I signed up biggest mistake of my life they told me that I need a 225.00 deposit which I paid well I live in Texas any time the wind picks up the satellite quits working if it rains it quits working if its too sunny it quits working it is a JOKE! well I decided when I moved into my new home Not to continue so I called them to cancel and to find out if they would credit my DEPOSIT towards my final bill they said oh well that was not a deposit it was a fee! I said a fee to be a customer of the SHITTIEST company out there? had I known that I would have NEVER signed up on top of that they want to charge me another 250.00 for cnacelling the service plus my last bill so I owe these FUCKERs 600.00 then she had the nerve to tell me she was going to charge my credit card on file for these charges well I informed her that I had cancelled the credit card and she would not be charging shit so FYI do not sign up for automatic credit card payments and if your going to cancel service make sure you cancel the card on record well DIRECT TV KNOW THIS I WILL BE REPORTING YOUR FRAUDULENT ACTIVITIES TO THE BBB AND TELLING EVERYONE I KNOW NOT TO SIGN UP WITH YOUR SHIT ASS COMPANY AND ALSO I WILL NEVER PAY THAT BILL I WOULD RATHER FILE BANKRUPTCY THAN PAY THAT BILL YOU PATHETIC EXCUSE OF A COMPANY AND ANYONE EVEN CONSIDERING SIGNING UP""" DO NOT DO IT"""" Please stick with cable I actually got all the movie channels DVR, unlimited local and long distance phone service with voicemail, three way calling, caller ID call waiting, call forwarding etc.. and high speed internet for ONLY 110.00 dollars per month through COMCAST NO CONTRACT!! AND IF THEY REQUIRE A DEPOSTI THEY REFUND IT! I paid 120.00 for only satellite no dvr no phone no internet and when you really need to watch tv for example BAD WEATHER TORNADO of SEVERE THUNDERSTORM! THE SATELLITE WILL NOT WORK! EVERYONE SHOULD CALL AND REPORT DIRECT TV TO BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU.

I agree 100% that DIRECTV does nothing but scam unsuspecting people into a contractual agreement. I just recently found that I was in a 12 mo contractual agreement and this without even signing one paper. No wonder they're paying their own customers to scam their friends, family, co-workers into signing up for services with them. I went so far as to report them to the BBB and as one would expect nothing was done. These are a bunch of white collar con artist and what can little people like us do but sit around and complain to each other because we don't have the money or the resources to fight back.

Also, at this point in time I have no stations...In Phoenix AZ...What kind of weather would prevent the satellite from working?

I just received a $1, 000 + invoice from dtv for "non-returned dtv equipment" (3 dvr receivers) after I cancelled the service on last month. I called dtv to explain that I owned the equipment which I think was purchased at Best Buy a few years back. The first person was very helpful and confirmed that I had not entered into any "program commitments" which typically would have a cancellation fee. The woman then transferred me to a very rude man that went on to explain that my purchase at Best Buy was merely an up-front lease payment and that dtv actually owned the equipment and that Best Buy was acting as a leasing agent for dtv. And I am now responsible to pay the "full purchase price" of the equipment if I did not return it to dtv. However the man confirmed that dtv did not furnish the equipment to me. And dtv is unable to provide me with any signed documents...such as a lease. The rude dtv rep stated that the invoice will go to collections and will also hit my credit. This is BS! Has anybody else heard of this scam?
