Business Response While unfortunate, we have communicated to *** the nature of his concern on several occasions. The line that is visible is from the hip set truss being out of alignment. This is a latent defect in original construction masked by the preexisting 3-tab shingles. The area in question had no wood replacement or modifications done by Collis Roofing during the roof replacement. We have been out to verify and explain the situation to *** three times. Once from the roof, once from the roof and attic, and a third time we opened up the area in question with a carpenter and roofing crew onsite. The corrective action involves engineering, removal of sheathing, removal and replacement or modification of trusses, and a general contractor. None of which is reasonable or customary in a roof replacement. When explained to ***, he doesn't refute this being true, he simply demands that we should be the one to fix it. Without a change order and prescriptive measure from a structural engineer Collis Roofing is unable to assist. Collis Roofing certainly has empathy for ***, however we cannot absorb thousands of dollars for a cosmetic repair to a structural component that is above and beyond the roof replacement contract. I do not agree with or feel that the statement shared by Collis Roofing resolves my reason for contacting the BBB. Collis Roofing has presented their point of view. They appear reluctant to view human error as well as lack of effective and knowledgeable oversight by the assigned supervisor, as possible contributing factors. Failure to have a properly trained and accessible onsite supervisor, in part, I believe affected the outcome of my roof replacement. Zach B was assigned to multiple job sites to supervise in different locations; different counties if I am not mistaken, at the same time he was to oversee my roof replacement. While that is a decision for Collis Roofing regarding distribution of their employees, it has produced a feeling that my roof replacement was not a priority. Splitting time between Orlando and Ormond Beach, just the travel time alone makes me question true oversight for my roof replacement. Mapquest shows at least 80 miles from my house to Ormond Beach. Pictures before the roof replacement do not display the visible raised seams as pictures after the roof replacement show. I was told on the second day of the installation by Mr. B, that the raised seams were due to adhesives used to keep the newly placed shingles in place. Not as Collis Roofing alludes to, a latent defect in original construction masked by the preexisting 3-tab shingles. I believe Collis Roofing is making an assumption regarding the original construction. Where was the communication? Collis Roofing never expressed any concern regarding any possibility of not completing a properly aesthetic, cosmetically appealing final project. Collis Roofing said they did not replace wood in the area of concern. To speak actuarately, there are actually three (3) areas of concern, that I, and later one of the Collis Roofing supervisors identified as having a raised seam area. To determine areas of the roof foundation that needed to be replaced, means the entire roof had to be inspected for issues. So the question that immediately comes to mind is, upon removal of the old shingles and other materials that exist between the shingles and the plywood, what condition did Collis Roofing find the surface area? The plywood, represents one of several layers of material before the shingles are actually attached to it? If structural integrity was in place, allowing Collis Roofing to proceed, what changed? Workmanship on the day the roof was prepped for new shingles and proper oversight comes to mind. Exactly in which county was Mr. B, when the decision was made to proceed. The prep work was done on the first day. They had to wait until day two for the county inspector before laying the new shingles. If they did not adjust, reconfigure or any other manipulation of the area, I ask what changed. Shingles don't sit directly on top of a truss. If the platform was flat, in the desired state for the surface to continue, what changed? If something additional was needed to complete an aesthetically pleasing final roof project. I ask, where was the communication. Workmanship again, comes into question. Proper oversight, isn't far behind. Mr. B, told me to give it a couple of days to allow the adhesive to properly set and then there would be a noticeable change in appearance. Later I learned it is not adhesives that keep the shingles in place, as the Collis Roofing supervisor informed me, but instead they are held down with nails. Either the representatives from Collis Roofing, as I see it, pointing in part but not limited to, the statements made by the supervisor for my roof replacement, as my example. They are either employing individuals who share fraudulent / or incorrect information or lack the knowledge needed to speak accurately. Not hearing back from Mr. B after the two days he suggested, I began emailing and texting him every couple of days to ask what will be done to correct this matter, as he assured me that it would. When repeated responses from him failed to occur, I then started to include Michael A, the Collis Roofing representative who made the initial visit to the email and text messages. They did not yield a productive response. Often, no response at all. It was made clear during conversations with Michael A and the inspectors that the roof replacement was because of its appearance and not because of structural issues, such as leaks. For Collis Roofing to now say that the final appearance of the roof should not matter, as I read it, offends me. I made this clear from the start, that I would be home and available throughout the entire roof replacement. We (my family) even provided water and soda to employees because we were sensitive to the heat that they were dealing with on both May 4th & 5th. If anything existed that would prevent an aesthetically pleasing result, it should have been identified by Collis Roofing back on May 4th, instead of by me expressing concern about raised seams on the roof later. If what they claim to be true, wouldn't it have been better to pause and have a conversation, than to proceed recklessly? If what they say is true, shouldn't the owner be part of the decision making process? It may be a disconnected correlation to some, but I equate it to a person laying new carpet. If they simply add the new carpet without taking into consideration the subflooring and making sure it is properly prepared for the new carpet, that amounts to either negligence, a lack of proper training, or possibly hoping no one would notice or complain. I do agree that there were three visits by representatives from Collis Roofing, but their representation of those visits lacks some factual information. They have distorted what actually occurred and when. They provide the illusion, with their statement of being overly responsive. Much of what they say occurred over the course of multiple days actually happened during a single visit. I was present for each visit, maintaining notes and dates of what occurred. In their response, they failed to include information connected with the second visit by a Collis Roofing supervisor, sent out after I expressed concern regarding the raised seams. The person they sent out was named Robert. He indicated that he had been in the business for a number years. Robert, stated what he observed was likely related to a workmanship issue. He stated that in his opinion, the raised seams were not because of the truss. So I ask, why suppress Robert's assessment? Why sent back out the same individual, who upon his arrival, I believe had predetermined the reason for the raised seams. I watched him pull up and within literally five minutes he made his assessment from ground level. The supervisor Collis Roofing sent out for the first visit is the same one they sent out for the third one. It should be further noted that during Robert's visit, he identified three areas where he could see raised seams. not just one that Collis Roofing chose to limit their focus to in their response. Two that stretched across the upper level roof (center) and a third on the upper (left) side of the roof. In their statement they said I did not refute anything. That is not true. What I said was, I am not going to argue with you. When I told Buster from Collis Roofing that I was not knowledgeable when it came to roofing terminology, to my surprise, Buster indicated that he was not either. This was stated prior to him sending the second person out. As shared earlier, that was Robert. Buster was the main office supervisor that I communicated with after sending my first fax to Collis Roofing on May 28, 2020 about my concerns. The whole process was becoming frustrating to me and I feared it was moving towards a confrontational outcome. That's not what I wanted. I simply wanted what was promised to me by Mr. B; that the raised seams, the areas of concern would be corrected. That is again, when I said, that I do not want to argue with you. To avoid having additional conversions with individuals who did not see the issue as a true concern, I requested on June 17th, 2020 that Buster refer my concern to a high authority for additional review. Buster informed me that there wasn't anyone higher that he could refer me to speak with. I repeated my request verbally and in writing. After not receiving any additional contact after the June 17th call and text, I then reached out to the owners and CEO from Collis Roofing, based on information I was able to find through the use of SunBiz. I sent letters, pictures, etc to their identified home address. Please not, I also faxed on three separate occasions: June 9th, June 16th and June 30th to the business fax number for Collis Roofing. Again, with no response. Their ad states that they stand behind every roof. I hope in the end, they actually do as their ad claims. Business Response As previously explained, the imperfections lie within the trusses of the original structure which would require a general contractor to correct. The shingles were installed properly, we have fulfilled our contract and did everything that would be customary in a roof replacement. I question proper supervision of the project and workmanship issues. If as alleged, 3 tab shingles masked an area, as they claim. I believe that should have been communicated with me as the owner upon removal of the old shingles, versus simply applying a roof with new shingles with the full knowledge the final appearance would later be questioned.

Business Response Both homes were built 2014 and out of the warranty period as agreed upon between Collis and the builder. After evaluating your neighbors roof they had an active leak that ended up being a simple fix so we repaired as a courtesy. Your work order was processed yesterday and your roof has not been evaluated as of yet to see of any cause, issue or plan of action to resolve it at this time.

Collis sent a crew to try to repair or a better term is Cover up their incorrectly installed roof when they thought I would not be at the house. Well I was and stopped them. I asked multiple time to explain how you can fix the roof. The supervisor then would just stand there in silence and then blurt out "we are gonna fix it" I would say how he would say nothing. This went on for close to 1.5 hours. That was the first of 2 more two on one confrontations from Collis to convince me my roof was fine. The last meeting they brought the shingles manufactures sales manager for the ares. This individual sided with Collis I stuck to my thought that this NEW ROOF Collis installed is installed incorrectly and sure enough 2 days later Collis says they will replace the entire roof again . They put me thru close to 11 hours of back and forth bantering for no reason than their desire to intimidate me and pay them for a job incorrectly installed. I have not even gotten a We are sorry I just get grief for their mistake. So Collis is returning this Monday over one moth since they started and have to tear the entire roof they put on and replace it with a properly installed roof. What a mess and a stressful time NO SENIOR CITIZEN NEEDS. Especially now when I have to have all there people around my house again with the current health crisis Cova 19. So if Collis's process is to intimidate and aggravate a customer they get an A+. Finally Collis actually wants to charge me for any wood that needs replaced that they missed the first time. They agree to replace wood they put holes in but not wood their PROFESSIONAL roofers missed. That sounds like a way to shake me down again.YOU DECIDE. I will review Collis once they are done and will be fair and accurate. Business Response We are committed to give the customer a product he accepts, and are still working to resolve this situation. Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) still waiting for Collis to put a roof on that would pass inspection and was not approved by their manufactures rep who saw their finished product and agreed to tear it off and do it right because the crew did not follow installation instructions. Please Collis quit putting this issue on me and say what I will accept. I as a consumer will accept what the company promised and has been over a month since you started and still no roof to speak of. Yes we are working to resolve this but next week will tell. The not part is how Collis's business practice of strong arming customers to the point that they have to go to the BBB and it takes Collis over the entire summer to put on not one but two roofs and never say we were wrong and we tried to get you to accept a bad product. Collis came out 3 times after the first roof and tried to make me pay for a bad product even sent the manufactures District Representative to convince you to take the first roof. So for future consumers this company tried to SWINDLE me and they finally put a second roof but still no public apology and we will never do this to a SENIOR CITIZEN AGAIN> Still waiting I am also forwarding all to the State of Fl there is a file pending and they are asking for additional info.
