I have been receiving emails on health promotion but not ones like Barton Publishing.

On 14 Feb, I watched a video on reverting diabetes. Once I accessed the website, there was no way out! It seems like a trap. I ordered the digital documents at US$19 for someone I cared for as a gift. I am not prepared to make any purchase of supplements, as he is skeptical of the concept of reversibility. I quit the website without completing the transaction of supplements.

On 15 Feb, I was shocked that a transaction of US$384.92 was made to Barton Publishing. I immediately wrote to Joe Barton for a refund. He wrote back to acknowledge that I quit the website without completing the transaction!

On 16 Feb, Mia replied that once I entered the personal information and card details, I was making authorization to purchase the supplements, and they were already shipped!

On 17 Feb, I sent 3 emails to the company expressing my deep concerns. I was extremely angry at the way Barton Publishing handled business: (1) assuming that I opted to purchase the supplements even though I quit the website without completing the order ; (2) assuming that I authorized to purchase the supplements after entering my personal information and card details for the digital documents, without clarifying /verifying what I want; (3) proceeding with the shipment of products irrespective of my protest and demand for a refund; (4) requiring me to pay for the shipment fees of returning the products that I never asked for.

On 20 Feb, I received an email dated 16 Feb, expecting me to respond in 48 hours, but I didn't receive that until 20 Feb together with another email of the same content dated 19 Feb. I checked my emails every day!

I responded immediately to make myself clear. I am 74 years old, a retiree without a pension. I am not diabetic and don't need the supplements. I can barely afford US$19 as a gift to someone I care for. US$384.92 is too much for me, equivalent to my expenses for a month. I demand a total refund of US$384.92, and I will delete the digital documents that I never opened. I demand Barton Publishing to pay me for shipping the products back from Hong Kong if the shipment cannot be stopped, as I never asked for them.

On 21 Feb, Barton Publishing stated that I accepted the upsell once I ordered the digital documents, and refused to refund.

Claimed loss: US$384.92 plus shipment fee for products from Hong Kong back to the United States

Desired outcome: Total refund. The public is warned of Barton Publishing's coercive and fraudulent way of doing business. Other health promoters are alerted not to align with Barton Publishing in promoting health information and products.

On February 14, you purchased the digital Diabetes Solution Kit for $19.97. During the checkout process, an upsell offer for 9 CinnaChroma supplements was presented to you. The upsell offer was added to your order when you provided your credit card details and selected the "BUY NOW" button.

We understand that you did not wish to purchase the additional supplements and attempted to exit the page. However, we want to emphasize that there is a prominent BIG RED "NO THANK YOU" button on the page, which spans the entire width of the page from left to right. This button could have been selected to decline the offer.

The email you received indicating that your order was not complete is because the order process began when you provided your credit card details. The confirmation email was sent automatically and implies that you did not complete the upsell offers or reach the end of the check out process.

Because the credit card payment was already in progress, the order proceeded to completion when you exited the page. This resulted in the upsell offer being added to your order.

Upon receiving your request for a refund on February 15, we responded promptly to acknowledge your message. However, the order had already been processed and shipped on the following day, as we pride ourselves on our quick shipping turnaround.

It appears there may have been a misunderstanding regarding our automatic response email, which states that we will respond within 48 hours. This does not imply an expectation that the customer must respond within 48 hours. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

Our refund policy requires that items be returned for a refund. We understand your concerns regarding the cost of returning the products from Hong Kong, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. However, we must adhere to our policy in order to process your refund.

Please rest assured that we will do everything in our power to assist you with the return process and ensure that you receive the refund you are entitled to.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are here to help.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

In response to Barton Publishing's reply dated 23 Feb, I disagree on several points.

1. The upsell offers only appeared after credit card details were provided.

2. I did not see Big Red "No Thank You", and had no choice but quit the page which I failed to retrieve now.

3. I was shocked on noticing the transaction of $384.92 billed. I wrote to Barton for my money back. Joe Barton's reply to me is not an automatic one, as attached in photos. He acknowledged that it's embarrassing that the transaction was incomplete and suspected there may be some error in the website.

4. I understand that shipment of supplements can be stopped upon special request, but the company chose to ignore my request and proceeded with shipment of complements that I don't need, nor want!

I am a retiree with no income. I appreciate research information on health issues and respect intellectual properties. I ordered the diabetes digital documents for sharing with someone I care that is diabetic. I cannot afford to buy the supplements as a gift that is 20 times more expensive than the documents I intended to order.

It is unfair for me to pay for something that I had not committed to purchase, and to pay for shipping the returned supplements from Hong Kong. Let me know the weight of the products, and I will let you know the cost of returning the products in case the company really could not stop the shipment.

I do hope that Barton Publishing can treat their potential customers fairly, and uphold good business practices to maintain goodwill.

A parcel from Barton Publishing was received. The date of mailing was 19 Feb! The company LIED in replying that it was already shipped on 16 Feb, refusing to address my request to stop shipping the supplements immediately. It costs me much time, energy and efforts to return the supplements that I did not order. I demand compensation for all my losses.

The cost of returning the parcel follows:

1. By airmail in 8-17 days days - US$36, with tracking - US$ 60;

2. By service mail in 9-14 weeks - US$ 16, with tracking - US$18.

Let me know which option the company is willing to pay me back.

Furthermore, I have not activated the user account, nor replied to the email for confirmation of the order dated 14 Feb. I am sure the company can see that I have not accessed the digital documents at all.

Having experienced all the hassles, I am not going to access the digital documents. I would only be satisfied that Barton Publishing agreed to return to me US$384.92 plus the cost of shipping the parcel back.
