I took my dog for a routine teeth cleaning at Banfield Pet Hospital at the end of June 2013 — as I had every year several years before. The only difference between this visit and the other visits was that my dog's regular vet was continually unavailable so I opted to go with the vet on duty — What could go wrong. Well, as I learned, plenty. When I picked up my dog, there was something not right about him. Banfield said everything went fine. The next morning I noticed that my dog was having a hard time breathing and was falling asleep on his feet — but he did not want to lay down. I called Banfield at about 4-430. They said they would be closing at 5 but to bring him by. They took an X-ray for which they tried to charge me even though it was "covered" under my "wellness plan." I reminded them of that and they went ahead with the x-ray. The vet told me she really couldn't see anything wrong but he was clearly having difficulty breathing. I was told that "if he made it through the night" I should take him to the emergency veterinary hospital. They gave me directions and nothing else. Not, the x-ray, a copy of his records, nothing. On the way home, I became quite concerned and decided to take him directly to the emergency veterinary hospital. They took one look at him and said he needed to be in oxygen. The tried to call Banfield but they were all gone and there was not emergency number to contact. Apparently, they do this quite often to the emergency veterinary hospital. They took another x-ray at no cost to me. They found a cloud on his lung and said it could be pneumonia. They wanted to keep him overnight. Long story short, my dog was in the hospital for a week, they tapped his chest at one point and took a large volume of liquid from his chest. He started to improve then suddenly he took a turn for the worse and died at the hospital. I believe something happened duing his teeth cleaning or while intubating him or during recovery but Banfield could not be bothered to care for him as they should have. BANFIELD KILLED MY DOG. DO NOT PURCHASE THEIR WELLNESS PLAN - IT IS WORTHLESS. $7, 000 later all I have left of my precious dog are his ashes. This was extremely devastating for me. NOW, they keep calling me about my "wellness" plan. I called these people after Leo died and before the July payment was due. I had just renewed this plan in June. I let them know that I no longer needed the plan because they had killed my dog. They told me that they would take care of it. They proceeded to take money from my account in an amount that was more than the payment should have been. I was forced to cancel their means of accessing my account in order to stop them from continuing to take funds from my account. These people are unbelievable. I would just like Banfield to STOP CALLING ME ABOUT A PLAN I AM NEVER GOING TO PAY THEM FOR BECAUSE THEY KILLED MY DOG!

I have documented lies that will / that can can them should I find a good lawyer to represent me I can prove they lied falsified documents via made up document killed the dog some they even wrote in the record and didn’t even realize they did. As well emails were told so many lies that will show they tried to cover up the death.

And yes they need to be handled as I suspected they have done this to many and so they believe they an are untouchable .. they are negligent I. Action duty of care responsibilities ans accountability. People lets are their family emotionally attached and liveed as such and I. Many instance no different than someone’s child kid. My Max was special he was almost human like land loved by all who got to know him and many would go to court and testify all my neighbor cried gave me cards etc as they knewhow much that dog meant to me and my well being after my husband suddenly died now I have none have no kids

They killed my 12 year old Chihuahua as well after her dental cleaning was a complete failure. She died 7 days later, both her lungs on xray were pure white. When I called to tell them she was having breathing problems, they refused to see her as did 4 other Banfield offices. I took her to a REAL hospital but it was too late and she died in an oxygen chamber 2 hours later.
I walked into my Banfield location and demanded all her records and copies of her xrays which I also demanded be done prior to her cleaning and I refused to leave until I had everything I wanted. They gave me her records BUT left out all the doctors notes, so I demanded again that they give me EVERYTHING. I got it, took it home, read over it all, only to find that 5 of her blood work results were abnornal and her xray showed she NEVER should have been put under anesthesia due to her having fluid in her lungs from a pneumonia they failed to tell us about..

I went to social media and my local news stations about them killing her and recieved a call from the General Manager who was in control of all the Eastcoast Banfield locations.
He offered to refund the 6 months of payments we had made, cancel the plan and also cancel and refund for our 2nd dog. When I read the doctor notes to him and also the Emergency Hospital notes with their findings of cause of death, he stopped me mid paragraph and stated he didn't understand any of the medical terms I was using because he wasn't a vet, and that he would have his top vet call me to discuss the findings because he had no clue what anything meant.

He also requested that I cease all social media posts, which I told him that would never stop as long as they remained in business.

So sorry for your loss. I know how you feel because the Banfield in Deptford, NJ killed my Pomeranian, Missy. You can read her story at banfieldkilledmissy.com. I was an emotional wreck when I made the site, so I rambled and so it may not make sense, I am about to redo it and just give a shorter summary of how they killed her. Do you guys happen to have pictures you can email me of your pets with the dates Banfield killed them? I am currently working on a Banfield Graveyard website and am looking for pictures of pets killed by Banfield to put on the site. The site will be very chilling, I must warn you, but I think it needs to be out there to bring awareness to the public about the dangers of Banfields everywhere. If you would like to include your pet, email me their picture and date of murder at banfieldkilledmissy@gmail.com. I am sorry for your losses!

So sorry or your loss. We just lost out pet on Wednesday under similar circumstances. Only difference was that ours died on the table during the routine teeth cleaning while under anesthesia. Same reaction though. We weren't given any documentation about the procedure or labs and they called it an underlying heart condition (even though she was a healthy one year old puppy with all current immunizations and vaccinations and was on Trifexis---not to mention she'd had a complete physical evaluation by Banfield and had been given gold stars for health)! And yep! They still want us to pay the remaining 6 mos of her wellness plan fees even though they killed her. We are waiting to see if their regional corporate officials will make the right decision to waive the future fees before contacting local news outlets and legal council but so far they have not budged! Definitely not the brightest executive decision making skills with that company!

Incubation in humans or animals, because of the tubing can cause pneumonia; if not properly performed.
