My mother had a number of policies through Bankers Life including at least five annuities. My brother filed a guardianship petition against her years ago when both her neurologist and psychiatrist said she was not incapacitated. The case was settled through mediation and mom was not forced to live with my brother and his wife as they had planned. Immediately after the settlement, mom changed her will and the beneficiaries on all of her Bankers policies specifically excluding him. The new will was done by an attorney who gave mom a capacity test also before doing the will. Regardless of the fact that everything was in order, my brother made a call to Bankers and they have done everything in their power to help him. First they said they had mailed the checks to me. Then they said the checks had not been mailed. Then they said the checks would not be mailed because there were competing claims. Then they said the head adjuster said nothing will be sent until they hear back from all other claimants other than "daughter". Odd how they want to hear everything from my brother who did absolutely nothing to take care of our mother and never spent a cent on her, but they don't want to hear from me. They also never give you a name or a telephone number so you can never reach anyone. My caregiving agency had a terrible time collecting benefits they owed for mom's care when she was alive. The owner said she actually had to take out a loan to pay her employees because it was so hard getting the money from Bankers. To say that Bankers is shady would be putting it mildly. I'm taking all of my money out of Bankers and they will never see another cent from me. This is not over for Bankers. Far from it.
