Discount Tire - Damage to my wheels

10/17/2023: Ordered new tires, requested that the tires be removed and discarded and I would pick the rims back up with no tires so I can ceramic coat them and I would pick the tires up loose so that I can apply Dura-Dressing tire coating.

During this visit, an employee named Jason informed me that he had dropped one of my wheels and it would need to be repaired at no cost to me. During the initial inspection we found a small scratch on one of the other wheels (no fault of discount tires), and Jason agreed to have the second wheel repaired at no cost due to the inconvenience. I was given the name and address of the repair facility (Alloy Wheel Repair Specialist of Houston) so that I could visit them prior to the repair to confirm they were a credible facility, the visit went well. The two wheels were sent over and repaired. When I received the (2) repaired rims, the quality was acceptable and I picked them up at the repair facility and took them to be ceramic coated with the other (2) rims. During the ceramic coating process, I noticed that the (2) repaired rims had been powder coated completely including the wheel barrel, the factory stock wheels are not completely coated on the barrel so they now didn’t match the repaired (2) wheels. I liked the way the barrels looked on the (2) repaired wheels so I took the (2) original wheels and (1) of the repaired wheels back to Alloy Wheel Repair Specialist of Houston and paid out of pocket to have the other (2) stock wheels completely powder coated to match the (2) repaired wheels. The person I spoke with at Alloy Wheel Repair Specialist of Houston (Chris) offered to do the job for half price due to all of the inconveniences. ($150 cost to me) I picked up the rims and took them home, a few days later I was making arrangements to have them mounted and noticed that (2) of the rims were not the same color black as the (2) other rims. Once again I am off to Alloy wheel repair, Chris agreed to redo all (4) rims at his expense. A few days later I picked them all (4) up and they were acceptable.

After I completed the cleaning and coating process on the wheels and tires (18-20 hours total labor) I contacted Joe at Discount to schedule an appointment, Joe suggested that due to the recent issues that I should come in at 7:30 AM the following morning prior to Discount opening to get the work performed. I arrived at 7:20 and let them know I was there, a few minutes later, Joe came out to inform me that their morning meeting was almost over and that he had discussed my situation with the entire shop during the meeting and they were all prepared. A few minutes before 8AM, 5-6 employees came out to my truck where the rims and tires were and while they all stood at the rear of my truck with a tire on the tailgate standing up, I explained the cleaning process and the coating that had been applied to the tires as well as the ceramic coating on the wheels and how important it was to handle with care, one of the employees asked about what brand the coating was and one of the managers explained that they would need to put grease on the rim to mount the tire, I responded that they could do whatever is necessary to mount the tires, but jokingly stated to “not lay them face down and drag across the floor” we all laughed and they said they would never do that. One by one each employee grabbed a rim and tire, (2) of the tires were in the back seat of my truck and as I was carrying the last tire into the shop I observed that (3) of the tires were laying facedown on the concrete with the rims laying on top. At that point I made a few stern comments based on the fact that we all had just discussed not doing this exact thing. I had the guys load my rims and tires up, I have a few choice words with the manager Casey and I left.

I feel the requested reimbursement below is a very fair offering and expect Discount tire to view it as such.

$150 paid to powdercoat the 2 stock wheels that didn’t match after repair (paid to Alloy Wheel Repair)

$47 for ceramic coat kit (amazon)

$150 for labor to re-ceramic coat the 4 wheels

$260 paid to Tire link to mount and balance wheels (attached invoice)

$24 x 4 tires that I paid discount tire for mounting/balancing and life of tire maintenance (this was never performed) (attached invoice)

$300 total for (6) trip to Discount Tire/Alloy wheel repair and TireLink

Total: $1,003.00

I haven’t included for any of my personal time on the phone, making visits, picking up and dropping off rims ect. I also didn’t include for an additional trip back to TireLink as they put the wrong tires on the wrong wheels, even though I would not have had to endure this cost of time and monies if it wasn’t for the problems brought on by Discount Tires. There is still additional details that I have omitted but this should be enough to get us where we need to be.

Claimed loss: Total: $1,003.00 I haven’t included for any of my personal time on the phone, making visits, picking up and dropping off rims ect.

Desired outcome: reimbursement of $1,003.00
