On February 29, 2020 I shopped at the Ashley Stewart Store #1422. I am not sure of what these numbers are but I am adding them to my complaint. Numbers: 97551 and [protected] I was shopping at the store at approximately 4:45 pm When I was approached by a Black, female Sales Associate named Alice asking me if I needed her help. I replied yes. I need to purchase some dress pants. She helped me find some of the items that I wanted. I told her that I wanted to try on some blouses. They did not fit me well so I put them back on the clothing rack. Alice went into a room in the back of the store. When she came out she looked at me with angry in her face. She said to me " you don't want any of the blouses that you tried on?' I replied "no". I was not going to buy any of them. It was apparent from her facial expression and the tone of her voice that she was upset. As I was paying for my merchandise (2 pairs of slacks) she asked me if I wanted to apply for a credit card. I told her no. At that time the cashier stopped ringing my merchandise and stood at the register glaring at me as if I should want one. Alice kept pressuring me to apply for a card, I kept telling her no. I told her that my credit was bad and each time I apply for a card my credit rating drops. She did not stop pressuring me. She then told me that my credit would drop by 1 point. I continued to tell her no. The cashier would not ring up my merchandise. I finally told Alice that I would apply for a credit card. I did and my request was denied. Then the cashier rang my merchandise. I like shopping at Ashley Stewart. I like the clothing line. I am a plus size woman and the clothes fit me nicely. I used to be an avid Ashley Stewart shopper. But I stopped shopping there because when the Sales Associate help me they seem to think that I should want a credit card. I understand that asking me that is part of the job, but when I say no I mean No. By law No means No. I stopped shopping at the stores for over 5 years because of that behavior. I noticed that Alice was becoming upset when I kept refusing to apply for a credit card. The Associates behavior have not changed, for that reason I don't enjoy shopping at those stores. I hope one day to be able to shop at Ashley Stewart and receive the help of the Associates if I need it without the pressure of making them happy and I leave the store angry and unhappy.
