Subway - Treatment as a customer

On June 23, 2021 approximately 11:00 am I went into the store of this location with my 10 year old son. He like Subway sandwiches so I obliged his request.

Complaint Incident:
There was some food being made (I don't know the exact name of that order) and a couple standing by the order line. Nothing is out of the ordinary here.

However, I asked if the couple if they ordered already? There was no response. I asked them again, once again no response. They were hispanic and I assumed they did not speak English well. I thought that the food being prepared was theirs since they were standing in front of it. I politely used my hand to point that they can move over to the vegetable and condiments side so they can point to what they need. They moved over and moved up to order. This when the problem started.

There was a young hispanic lady working at this time. When she saw the hispanic couple move over, she spoke loudly to me in a very aggressive manner. She explained that the order being prepared was online. She looked at me with very mean eyes as if I was a lowly person to admonish harshly in public. I could actually feel the venom in her voice how she spoke to me in a forceful manner. Then she ever so politely spoke to the other couple in Spanish and took their order.

My Complaint: Incidences like these are not small. I said to my son as we waited to order, "Do you see how harsh she spoke to me and how gingerly she speaks to the other couple? My 10 year old son noticed the difference himself. He could see that I was visibly shaken and asked,"Are you alright Dad?"For being African American, I was spoken too in an aggressive manner as if I was some hooligan or something for making a mistake. The young hispanic Subway worker seemed almost racially affiliated to the couple who spoke Spanish but no English. You could clearly see how gingerly and comforting she spoke to them. Since I have experienced behavior like this all of my life from a large variety of situations, I felt I would write about this one. This is not a small matter as it happens often to African Americans. Had the Subway worker just politely corrected my error, like I'm sure she would have for a person of another race, no harm no foul. But Instead I was made to feel as LESS THAN.. How dare a black heathen attempt something"wrong" against an hispanic who speaks no English..

I will be sending a copy of this letter to Corporate Subway. Secondly, I will never go to this Subway location EVER AGAIN without an apology. I clearly see when others are treated better than me. I will also share my experience concerning this location with my friends too.
