A Safelite company was recommended by my trusted mechanic. My original and very abused windshield (HUD) needed to be replaced. As uninformed woman, and a customer, I was unable to speak to the life salesperson, I ended up using the Web to make the appointment and a received a quote of $961.53.
My windshield was replaced on 3/8/21 in Sun Valley CA location, I was send an e receipt and given the car keys and departed. 10 days later, during at home car wash, right windshield came apart and the metal handle smacked the window. A incident that happened many times before without a dent in my OME windshield, I did not think much of it and proceeded to complete the wash. Following morning I discovered break lines projecting from the pained right corner of the windshield. Upon the closer examination, I discovered a large round crack with a crack web, as if a large stone hit it.
That is when I discovered that my windshield was none OEM, as I an uninformed customer believed I was purchasing. I printed out the purchase receipt to find a fine print on the bottom (a disclaimer?) confirming my surprise. On 3/23/21, I returned to Sun Valley CA facility to discuss this issue with the Manager. A salesperson have came out and examined the windshield crack and stated (in not so many words) that I should have requested OEM windshield, which would cost me $1800. A cost I could have endured for the quality glass. None of this information was readily available on your website nor any of the sales people have discussed that option with me at any point. I was dismissed and associate manager came out to examine my shield and after declaring that Pinkerton windshields are widely used manufacturer, approved by the government and a ‘quality aftermarket glass', my complaint was "not his problem".
Indeed, because of this incident, which apparently other customers have experienced, I would not know the lack of transparency and poor customer service that your company provides.
Now that I am preparing the next stage of protest against this shabby Safelite practice, I discovered that both widow shield wipers were removed during the glass installation. How do I know that the wiper did not come apart and hit same far right corner of the window shield after the re installation process and produced the injury. Location is invisible and covered by the wiper? I was not asked to examine the window shield after the re installation, and it did not occur to me to do so.
My lawyer have confirmed that Safelite was not transparent and practiced poor customer service. I demand correction-replacement of my OEM windshield, or a refund.
Desired outcome: Replacement of the windshield with OEM, clearly specifying the glass manufacturer. Your website has to clearly give OEM option and price to all unsuspecting customers (such as myself)
