When vacationing at the Sandos resort near Playa del Carmen, we were convinced to buy a Royal Elite membership. The meeting was supposed to last one hour but we ended up wasting the entire morning and loosing $5000.

The reason we bought into it was that we were supposed to be able to use our weeks anywhere in the world, which suited us well because we travel a lot. We were also supposed to be able to sell our unused weeks for a profit. All this is a scam.
1- When trying to exchange a week for a stay in the Caribbean - anywhere in the Caribbean - we were told that there were no availabilities! Not one availability in the entire Caribbean?!?
2- We paid an additional $200 to have one of our weeks rented out. It has been a year, and our unit has not found one renter!
3- Customer service is horrendous. It took me 8 months to get a password to their web site, which is actually useless. When booking - or trying to book - a vacation exchange, you have to make a request and wait for an answer within 72 hours, only to find out that there is no availability. People you reach on the phone are rude and never have any answers to your questions. They keep forwarding you to another number, which most of the time is a voicemail. When you do reach someone, you have the distinct feeling that you are talking to someone in their living room rather than at a corporate office.
Don't fall for the Royal Exchange scam!

shame on Royal Elite, how is it possible that whenever a client is trying to do everything from their end to do payments and believe everything the sales associated told them the membership was about, and turns out its not and that everything was a Lie.. and that Royal Elite did nothing to respond their client's email or phone calls, but it is not until we start posting in the internet our stories when they want to do something about such as "opening" a new Quality Control Department, you should check this forum with more angry royal elite timeshare owners:

We are trying to utilise our Venture weeks which were quoted to cost FROM $199 per week and I'll be glad if somebody could find one for this price. $600 is closer. We're in the UK and getting responses takes ages and they seem to have no idea of time differences. Also if you are trying to find places for larger numbers i.e. 6! it's almost impossible.

We are having the same problems, we cannot get hold of anyone to rent our weeks back, and now reading so many disturbing stories regarding scams. If anyone else has any experience in this, I would really like to hear from you as we are trying to see if there is a way of getting our money back.
