DCF Florida No Access

Cannot, under any circumstances, reach a human being. I filled out their online form and did receive a call, but they left no message (I guess I am supposed to stand next to the phone waiting for them to call). Forget the [protected] number, it is designed to make you go away (I can only guess what happens to people who haven't the experiences I have had with infinite loop phone systems). Forget the [protected] number, it is always busy. Forget calling Tallahassee, they designed the system. And if you read all this waiting for a solution then I am sorry to say you wasted your time.

DCF Florida Losing paperwork twice

My husband was recently terminated from his job for working 3 minutes over time. On top of this, Unemployment denied us. I am 7 months pregnant, and we are high risk because we keep loosing babies. When he lost his job, he lost the insurance as well.
We also have two little boys, ages 11 and 6.

We did what most American's do, and applied for state aid. For the first time in our lives. We were ashamed.
Here in Flagler County they made us do a week long class for the benefits. This was in the beginning of September 2010.
Then we get a notice saying that we made too much money, and were denied for food stamps, cash assistance, and Medicaid.

No doctor will see me or care for me unless I have money or insurance. Yet I am denied for everything. At the DCF office they told us that they lost our paper work, the birth certificates and everything. So we where instructed to apply again. We recently applied again 2 weeks ago, and they have again lost my doctors paperwork, and mixed up my husbands paperwork with someone else's, so we're denied again- they filed my husband's paperwork claiming he is receiving workman's comp.

We are hungry, we are tired. No one will help us, and I have to feed this unborn child. I do not want another one to dieIis this state really that stupid and Illiterate? The state of Florida is a beautiful state, however, the government offices of DCF seem to loose their paperwork often. All we are asking for is to eat for the next week, praying my husband can get another trucking job. We have asked the churches but each one is full. The shelters are full, there are waiting lists.. and we have no where to go.

I am just shocked at who is working for the government, we are American Citizens and yet treated like crap. Those who are illegally here get gold treatment.

We did ask our community for help, sadly here in Florida the food banks, and shelters are full. Churches are full and can not help out.

okay, this is what you do. it will be hard, but this is the course.
you were denied because you made too much $$ in the PAST.

do they want the past 4 weeks?
wait 4 weeks, so that they will know nothing about your past.
this is step 1. then reapply.

step 2. fax in the paperwork, as said. do this like 3X! even more if you can. i think i faxed it in every other day.
They will have no chance of losing it.

you can complain all you want-they don't care. you're only a number. i've heard, (and this is a different county, polk, but i'm assuming they're all the same) that the staff there is just overwhelmed. they'll take them by the handful, toss them, and say 'oops'. this will eliminate your odds.
they just lost mine, too. went for 'recertification', thought i would have a decent Christmas this year, too late probably to sign up for aid.-and they lost it! (i have a reciept, but know they won't care. they probably never looked).

I am sorry for what you have suffered. Have you filed a grievance for being denied benefits, especially because the welfare office is loosing your paperwork? Ask for grievance paperwork. To get something done, sometimes you need to be a first class ###. I would call and ask to speak to a supervisor, and complain about the way you were treated, and that your paperwork was lost twice. It was a pain for me to get CA health benefits too, it took several months before I was approved, and stupid reasons why it was delayed. Sometimes you need to be your own best advocate. If the company that he was fired from refuses to pay unemployment fight them on it too! Go to the welfare office, and demand to talk to a supervisor, or ask for another intake worker. Once you get your benefits, make sure that you turn in all required paperwork on time. I would do it in person, if the office is close to your home, or send it certified mail. The bs welfare offices try to pull is annoying. I have had to go through the same crap you went through too... Good luck to you and your family, and I will keep you in my prayers. Hope your husband finds a job soon...
