anytime you feel you must be about too win the site "glitches"/pauses "connecting"/waiting whatever! just minus signs where the price used to be. has anyone spoken to a genuine winner?

This company is definitely dodgy that is a mild word to use for it, they are positively fraudulent. I have also lost about $250.00, I actually should have won one of the auctions but it made me bid against myself (yes believe me!) and then allowed someone else to bid after bidding against myself, what cheats. They don't reply to emails and now they don't allow me to log in when I still have bids left to use. It appears as if there is a technical glitch everytime I try to log in, it puts in an auto password which is not mine and now i cannot access my bid account. Slimey Bast#$%@@. I hope the FEDS catch them and screw them for being so evil. Making thousands of dollars at the cost of innocents like us. Never again will I ever use this company for bidding. Don't trust their site, don't think a real person wins. And yes, how convenient there is no contact details for where they are. Overseas (Hong Kong) criminals for sure. Don't trust.

Terrible companies based overseas scamming us here... Mastercard refunded me and reversed the charges with no argument (same storyline as above) . These people prey on poor souls who think they "just lost the auction". really... Today they are still advertising on Facebook. How the hell is that possible? So many people have complained about these criminals so many times. Anyone know?

I am another victim of this site. I watched auctions for days before bidding and like others, thought that it seemed quite reasonable and made sense. However, you can never, NEVER win an auction. As another writer expressed, if you show interest in an item by placing bids on it, suddenly a number of other bidders appear, keeping the auction going to literally hours. Feeling pretty stupid for being conned, but furious that this sort of site is allowed to continue...it should be shut down immediately and the "owners" forced to refund everyone who ever purchased bids from them...or jailed. It's fraud.

I have just laid a complaint to the ACCC about them. Their site advertises that you can purchase any of the items for retail minus the money you spent on bids if you are unsuccessful but when I tried this they said it wasn't available.
ACCC have just come back and said that yes, it is illegal conduct, and they have logged it in their database. If they get more complaints about PlanetBid they will then investigate them.
So if you have had any grief with planetbid it could pay to go to http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/54217#h3_37 and lodge a complaint.
Interestingly 'Steve' from Planetbid emailed me to say their server isn't in Australia and their company is based in Hong Kong so they don't need to abide to Australian law...
Unfortunately for them their domain name is registered in Australia, using a trademark that was purchased using the address:

Suite 1308
109 Pitt Street
Sydney
NSW 2000

So if ACCC find them at significant fault I'm sure they'd have the power to revoke their trademark and have their domain name canceled... :-)

Do you have to stay online to bid. Or do you put in a maximum amount then it will bid automatically.

Is there any proof anywhere that people that have won items have them now in their possession? Also paid very cheaply for it?

Well I'm a bit embarrassed to say this but: I had a go at this action and lost hundreds of dollars.

This was the outcome:

It was quite bizarre. I monitored the auction for a period of about 24 hours and all items were going for around $1 to $8 (including new Cameras, iPad's and TV's etc), it looked great.

So I purchased some bids and started bidding:
However, as soon as I started bidding on an item, it just kept going up and up in price (in the end the item reached over $50).

Now! To put this in perspective:
$50 sounds cheap for a camera, BUT:
The bidders at the auction are bidding (on average) $0.60c for every 1cent bid placed (some pay allot more if they didn't purchase in bulk bids). So that means that every bid is costing roughly $0.60c (Example: I had 500 bids on one item). In the end the item sold for over $52. This means that the auctioneer got over $3, 000 (eg: $52 = 520 bids x $0.60 per bid = $3, 120). Great for the owner of the Auction, but not so great for the many bidders that lost hundreds of dollars...

Be warned! I found out the hard way. This is not a good way to gamble your money (and it is gambling).

This site, and many other similar site, IS A SCAM IF ONE THING CAN BE PROVED.

That there are always bidders who are affiliated with the site being involved.

If there are such bidders they will help in jacking up the price to the point of either:
a) all other genuine bidders give up, in which case the site end up with the earning from the bidding fee.
b) the price is jacked up enough to make a reasonable profit (which is highly unlikely).

With the help of the internet such bidders are almost certain to be untraceable, so there is not much one can do. And there is a slim chance that sites would admit to doing this.

And I found the technical term for this form of scam. It's called Shilling and is illegal in most countries.

PlanetBid is definitely a scam.

Like other posts here I also got taken in and lost $150. Gift Cards that were "selling" for under $1 suddenly went to over $8 when I tried bidding on them. Clearly the site is being manipulated by the operators so that they almost always "win" the auction and so never have to buy the goods. They may occasionally allow a real person to win an auction so that they can point to them for publicity but in most cases the results are rigged.

Basically I think a good rule to follow for a start is that if the website is not prepared to post their address and/or phone number in the Contact Us page then dont have anything to do with them. Obviously there is a lot more to check than just that as they can be easily fudged but it is a start.

I just wish that I had found this site before I spent the money.

Never use auto bid or this web site. I sat up from when I started biding at the $ 5.00 mark around 8pm on the mac laptop (AUTO BID) $350.00 for 700 bids to the next day till 5 am. It was just two of us remaining so at around 3am so I toped up my account with 800 bids as I was down close to 300 bid remaining then all of a sudden random bidders just started bidding. It got to 5am I stoped auto bid with 200+ bids remaining and it all stoped ! just like that .10 random bidders all stoped at the same time. I wiill now start to film and document the site its very sus.Its like there is a computer bidding, not real people. 1, 300 Auto bids only to of us remaing at around 3AM the other person ranout of bids and I got nothing and the mac laptops sell around the $5.00 to $10.00 mark .it sold at the highest price ever $4?.00 that is just not something that would happen randomly! I have been studying the sale price of the mac lap tops for 16 weeks and that is why I put so much money on it. I should have won, after my money is gone( never again) I will make every effort to put as much on the Net about this site, I will up load film of the bidding on U tube . You need to sit and have a long look at how the bids are placed and who and ask yourself why would somone bid only once or twice on something they wanted and why would so many different names pop up between bidding!

This is a statment I got from Steve at PLANET BID Sent: Monday, 15 August 2011 1:52 PM he also emailed an address after my email to Planet Bid (YOU WILL NEVER KNOW WHO WILL BID AND HOW)!
