My dog was seen by eugene upshaw, and i was told he had Addison's diease. Dr. Upshaw treated him with prednisone(5 mgs.) every other day. Later on the internet i learned about a injection called percordin, that has been found to be very effective for this diease, and at the same time i learned that just the use of steriods can cause tissue damages and other complications, i was not told this by Dr. Upshaw even when i enquire about other safer treatments about the injections or the damage that they can cause, he seemed unconcerned. August 2011 my dog went into an addison's crisis, in which means his organs were shutting down due to improper treatment. I took my dog into Dr. Upshaw to see what could be done for him. Dr. Upshaw told me that his organs were in failure, and he would die so he suggested putting my dog to sleep. I took my dog home to spend another night with him thinking the next day he would have to put to sleep. I sought a second opinion after hearing this grim diagnosis, only to find out that the treatment that Dr. Upshaw had given my dog not only did not help but could worsened his condition. There was a safer treatment available, included a injection along with prednisone, that would have stabilized his conditon and not done organ damage. If i had listened to DR. Upshaw my beloved pet would have been dead and i would have been overwhelmed with despair over the fact that he could be saved with the right treatment.This shows that you as a pet owners
you must do your own research and not trust everything your vet tells
you. Dr. Upshaw lacked compassion, knowledge, and the simple ablity to treat efffectively my dog's condition. I hope everyone is more active in preserving their pet's health.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I have not seen Dr Upshaw because I heard of a reasonable veterinarian. What a mistake!
I had taken my sons to the beach, hence the stay at Dr. Oliver’s practice. As it turned out an unexpected hurrah e was heading our way.
I immediately went to pick up my dog. I was told it would “takes a while”. To just pick her up? I had bought a huge comfy bed for her to lay on because she had bad arthritis.
After waiting far too long , I walked into the back area where the dogs that are there for lodging stay.
Much to my dismay, I saw my beloved Great Pyrenees was unable to stand up! I said where is her extra large thick dog bed I brought for her to lay I had
The assistants were aghast!
Needless to say, she was so sick she died that very night.!
I have not owned a dog since this tragedy.
If I do get another dog, Dr. Upshaw will be their veterinarian! He’s compassionate, gentle and affordable. Not to mention a brilliant veterinarian, I used for all my other animals he saw.
I’m shocked at anyone giving him a bad review. He is a wonderfully kind person, and has given my animals nothing but loving care throughout the years.

I wish I WOULD have seen this post 4 years ago. I have to stand on the side of Dr. Upshaw and his clinic. Before anything I feel compassion for your animal and you. I know how it feels to lose a pet. I also know how it is that I was given a price for the life of my pets ( with NO GUARANTEE) *** at another animal hospital who most def. is in it for $$ not you or your pets** that my bank acct nor my cc could do. Thisl left me feeling like I had failed my pet. I am sure that everyday new and not always better treatments are found. I am sorry yoou did research a little late and then blame Dr . Upshaw, bc you obviously trusted him before. I know that Dr. Upshaw is very compassionate, straightforward, man whose passion shines through for the animals he sees and the humans who continue to bring their beloved pets. I and anyone who asks, will take our pets to BURLINGTON RD ANIMAL HOSPITAL!
I have had several pets over the course of my life and after been ripped off by so many vets and I am glad i found Dr. Upshaw. For pet owners like myself, that care about saving abandoned pets instead of buying pets from puppy meals, I would have not been able to make it if weren't cause of vets like him. He is truthful about his treatments and inexpensive. I had paid several thousands of dollars to other vets with the pretenses that they will save your pet. Dr Upshaw has always been truthful and realistic when it comes to the health condition of my pets.
I understand you are grieving about loosing your beloved dog, but it is in gods hands and Dr Upshaw probably was only able to extend his life a little longer. Honestly, your complaint is baseless. I am sure you would have gone to visit another vet they would have charged you an arm and a leg, they would have lied to you even more and still your dog would have died. That is the honest truth.!
