Contractor 411 is a scam! Beware they are still trying to scam people on Craigslist! They charge you for a so called background check because working on bank properties its a requirement. Then in turn you never get bank foreclosure leads. We signed up Jan /09 and never got a foreclosure lead. We did request leads and received for residential work however they were all bogus and after 6 months I asked for a refund. I didn't even get a response back after 2 seperate requests for our money back. Truly amazing that many people have the same complaints. I hope someone sues them one day and also reports them to BBB. Don't be scammed out of $99.00. It's bad enough with the economy these days that you should throw away another $99.00. Pissed off California!

I paid $99.00 for a background check. Never got foreclosure leads, never got a return call, and now that I look back on it the director's name was Thomas Crown. You've all seen the movie about the art thief. Well they got me. Don't let em' get you.

They originally signed me up with the promise of getting a minimum of 3 foreclosures per week to do the property preservation on. These were to start a week after my background check was done, which cost me $99. It has been 4 months since I joined and they have not sent me any property preservation work and the leads that they send are bogus leads that are old and the people don't even want any work done. It is a totall scam and I will be making complaints with the appropriate agencies to get these people stopped.

Company advertises on Craiglist and various other sites stating that after a $99.00 charge to do a background check on you, and that once you pass, you will receive leads from both private and bank sources for contractor and handyman jobs. States it takes about 3 days for this check to be completed (long enough for the charge to clear your bank) and then you will start receiving leads. You do receive leads but you usually never get a response back or they are usually filled long before you have a chance to even respond. If you try to contact the website to find out any information you are sent an auto-reply e-mail referring you back to the FAQ which give you a very, very limited amount of answers. If you call, you will never speak to anyone, just a voice mail stating to leave a message or to contact them via e-mail either to a Sarah White or a JOEL BECKER. Mr. Becker responds with e-mails stating "Hi, feel free to intimidate us" or "Hi, you intimidate me" which leads you right back to the place you started. The BBB has a 2 page list of complaints dating back to January of 2009. Also, if you request a copy of your background check from InquestServices.com, Mr. Becker is the one that e-mails you to tell you to request a copy from Inquest Services. If you do receive a copy of a background check it is not on you, but someone else.DO NOT DO ANY SORT OF TRANSACTION WITH THIS BUSINESS! CHECK THEM OUT WITH THE BBB IF YOU QUESTION THIS AND YOU WILL SEE THIS IS ALL TRUE.

How could I have fallen for this? This was $99.00 my family could not afford to lose. I must explain to my husband tonight that instead of helping the family with potential work orders, that I have given away $99.00 to thief's. I feel so stupid! No groceries next week.

lead companies are a bunch of frauds, They main thing is to sign as many contractors as they can. It's all about money to them with no respect to the contractors because there are so many of us that continue to go to them in these hard times and in good times. Service magic is the biggest apple of them all, which uses so many names and also haves free advertizing sites for contractors to list there business which steals you potential client. They will break up a lead from clients to sell it to mulitple contractors, for example ( a customer ask for a basement remodel then they say ok there will be a need for a sheetrock guy, painter, carpenter, flooring, eletrical and so on. add that up times 4 to 10 pople in each trade. As a common practice I asked the client how many people have called them always more then seven. Service magic is a branch off of a much larger company of lending tree and many more companies they own. What each contractor needs to do is complain to the attorney general and state there problem. We are required to get a state licensed in maryland to perform home improvements and a salesmen licensed so how are they above the law. Just keep calling your local goverment and complain because it must be done in large numbers and actions speaks louder then words on this post. I'VE TESTED THE LEADS LEADS COMPANIES
OUT AND THEY FLOODED ME WITH CALL . ONLY THREE TO FOUR CONTRACTORS ONLY THEY STATE, WHAT A BUNCH OF BS.

hi, I just got there phone call today. I was really hoping for what they promised .I just got done calling my bank after reading all of these complaints. Turns out, (LUCKY ME ) they couldn't charge me the backround check, because I was already overdrafted, but they did try. They also left me a message to call them back tommorrow at ext. 710(Travis). With that many complaints, I'm sure it's a scam. I just talked to the Bank, BLOCKED them ! and reported them!

This is a problem with all lead genaration companies. They resend old leads, If someone start's the process and quirs they still sell yhe lead, They say it only goes to 3 to 4 contractors that a lie, Most of the companies have several names they use, renovation experts, servicemagic, reliableremodelers, they also have site's where you can post your business which if someone clicks your business and think there going to you there not iy goes to them, very mis leading. Cant understand why the state has not put an end to this, We are required to get a licensed for contract and salesman, so why not them.

I was contacted by them also. I stated on my Craigslist no emails as they have all been scam contacts and they still contacted. I called and it smelled bad of scam. I even pollitely called them on the possibility and they hung up on me. Got another email and called as I was desperated and hoping it was real. Then I found this site. Luckily I do not have $99. to even give them to even think about it out of desperation. Besides, who pays you more than $100 an hour for 2-3 hour jobs without even asking me for work history references.
How do we stop them from stealing from others.
PS. I wonder if SME is an affiliate of the company to try to prolong their scam?

These people thought they had me this morning but thanks to you guys, I was wiser. I just want to say, Thank You! I did send an email to all the sponsers so they would see their name being used to get their clients scammed.

I am truly sorry for the ones of you that got used. It is so sad all the scams that are going on now.

The person called Roxy is who I confronted on the scam and she said the BBB was a scam. I told her they oughtt to be ashame to be so low and I hoped they all ended up in jail. She said I would be 6 ft under. Is that a threat on my life over the phone and over state lines?

Thank you again for posting. It is hard enough out there right now, but we are honest and do not scam.

SME CONTRACTOR You are an idiot! Of course you will receive a call back when you are "signing up" that's how they get your money. Then wait for the leads to come in and you will find they lead you nowhere. Then try to contact them in the time frame that you specified. You will receive a voicemail ALWAYS that tells you to contact "Sara White". No matter how you spell her name that will generate e-mails stating that she is "unavailable". Then contact "JOEL BECKER" via e-mail and you will receive e-mails that tell you to go to the website's FAQ's part that will also LEAD YOU NOWHERE. Then contact JOEL BECKER via e-mail directly and you will go around and around in circles. THEN request a copy of your background check that you spent money on and you will get another run around the circle moment. If you do receive a copy of the background check IT WON'T BE ON YOU! Now before you post anything else try all of the above and then contact the BBB online and you will see JUST HOW FOOLISH YOU HAVE BEEN POSTING THAT! BY THE WAY I GOT MY MONEY BACK BECAUSE I FILED WITH MY BANK A COMPLAINT AND THE BBB AND THE ATTORNEY GENERAL OF MY STATE. IT WASN'T A "BITTER MOMENT IT WAS A SCAM"!

I would better appreciate both of your concerns, but my point of view is slightly different as every one of us have good or bitter experiences in our lives...so may be there is something that we could negotiate with the right party instead of complaining about them.

TOTAL SCAM! I too almost fell for this, however, a little gtoogle search provided a wealth of information. I called the number and spoke to a girl named Brooklyn (should be Crooklyn) and she promised the world. I started asking her what type of jobs they were and she was totally not familiar with construction. I then asked her what the deal was with all the complaints and she responded that it was due to the Handymen/Contractors not responding quickly or not posting their profile. She also stated that they were in business for 14 years? yeah.
Any of the positive reviews here are subject to scrutiny. I would bet they are employees trying to back peddle on all the negative reviews. DONT FALL FOR IT!

None of these leads are what you proclaimed we would get from your services. This is a [censor] SCAM where you survive by charging $99.00 for a background check ( that a local law enforcement office does for FREE) & forward garbage leads to justify your existence, the leads are either bogus, false, or very old..., what a pathetic, misleading services this is. 95% of these email addresses are coming from sites with VERY POOR trust or reliability factors.., more then likely generated by your own employees! I am passing on this information to my local BBB & the Indiana Attorney Generals office.

Scam for sure- I talked to Kendra who blows a lot of bull. I didn't pay the fee. First I flew in with Google Earth Street View on their two supposed "brick and mortar" addresses, 8721 Santa Monica Blvd. and 2118 Wilshire Blvd. Both locations are mail drops. I also did a business entity search for the state of CA and found no listing for their supposed company, Contractor Management LLC. It is amazing that individuals chose to bide their time stealing from people.

Same thing here! We contacted the Attorney General about this scam. Hundreds of so called leads were bogus. Not one so-called customer responded to our emails even when we begged for a response to see if the lead was legit as we were investigating the company. Nothing. And, not one bank foreclosure we were promised. Still working on putting an end to these scammers and won't rest until they are severely punished.

I've heard from lots of other's 411 was in-fact a scam operation.. on the hand, you need to be suspect of anything posted on craigslist. I myself and I think others would agree.. that craigslist should be taken off the internet..it's a housing institution for disreputable businesses and any other occasions you can think of.. (IT'S A FREE SITE !) Anymore questions!

typo in the first post. I was mad when typing and not typing right. If a homeowner wanted work done they would list there phone number. I have also tried people searches on anywho and not one person showed up. All my job leads said they were within a 30 mile radius. Also, think about the odds here. I have received about 16 job leads and responded to all of them the morning I received them (about 4 leads every monday) I have not been able to speak to one person or corresponded in email to get an appointment set

I have to say that I agree it is a scam. I'm sure they take 99 bucks from thousands of hurting contractors. I signed up for this company because of the reo work they promissed. After 2 months nothing. The only thing they do is send these bogus leads with very funny and suspicious looking email address. Dont you think if a homeowner wanted work dont they would at least put there email down. Oh and by the way I have gotten some really strange respones from my emails to the leads. In two months I have never received a phone call or and address or an legitimate return email to set up an appointment. I have gotten a couple email responses back that are very strange. As an example I emailed one of the leads giving my credentials and a week later I get this email saying "sounds good can you start next week" then I send back an email that says "yes, I can start next week but would you like to meet so we can go over your project. Please give me your number or call me so we can set up an appointment" then after I send that there is no other correspondence. these weird emails have happened about 3 times. I think it is there attempt to make it look like it is legitimate.

Dont pay the 99 you will regret it

What kind of work ethics do they have. I have not received 1 lead that is real and not one job from them. They will be reported to the better business bureau now, by me. I am a contractor in the CLEVELAND area and joined CONTRACTOR 411 with the same negative results. Paid the $99 and for two months have gotten nothing for it. NOT one legitamate lead and not one call from any bank. Absolutely zero with this scam outfit. Contractors depend and live on leads. Just do what you promise. These guys don't do anything for you. If they are so good, why are there so many complaints. There shouldn't be any complaints. I need to put bread on the table for my kids. They are playn' with lives that depend on there service.

Hi guys,

I am from Chicago and have worker with the contractor 411 off and on supplementing my income for 3 years. I don't know what the problem is but its a pretty straight forward deal, you request leads when ur ready and they match u up with the profile info u give em.

I got some pretty sweet bank jobs last month and I never even talked to contractor management about it, it was just me and the bank estimator.

I am only coming back to this site because I am checking on another scammer company and I cant believe anyone even has a problem with the contractor 411.

They are the best lead service I have been a part of over the last 10 years and I have done my research.

Contact me if I can help u out,
