Walmart - rude and not helpful

The Pharmacy closed at 1:30 for lunch and re-opened at 2:00pm. I gave 4 prescriptions for my son Anthony and 3 prescriptions for Jesse. I was told wait 45 min. so we returned in 45 min. and were told come back in 10 more min. So we walked around the store and came back in 10 min. We were told to wait another 15 min. I said no, let me talk to a Manager. She took 5 steps to her right and picked up a bag of prescriptions for us. I repeated "Let me talk to your Manager" only response was it will be just a few mins. for the one of the prescriptions for Jesse. She gave the rest to me. Jesse requested that no one can pick-up his prescriptions but him. (this was a few weeks ago.) She ignored this fact and gave me his prescriptions. What was the point in waiting the last 15 min. when she had the bag right there? Why did she give me Jesse's prescriptions when computer said to only release them to him? Why do they close down entirely for lunch? Everyone else rotates lunches. I feel sorry for the poor sap that comes in just before they close up. He has to wait 1 hour and 15 min. Where as everyone else waits 45 min. My son's phone got a call as we were standing there at the counter, stating his prescriptions were ready. We let her hear it and she said well they're not ready. They don't speak good english there either. You can't ask a question because you can't understand the answer. Horrible Experience.

I went in today to get that medicine that they were working on and now they claim it doesn't exist... Now they deleted his prescription. So I have to go back to Doctor and hopefully he will re-prescribe it. I think this goes beyond incompetent employees. They were working on it when I left. Next day it doesn't exist.

I work in a Walmart Pharmacy and I'm sorry to say that this can be a common occurrence. I'm sorry that it happened to you. Not to make excuses, but the pharmacy can be so strapped to get everyone their prescriptions quickly, things fall through the crack. To be honest, 7 prescriptions is a lot to fill, and especially with all of the quality assurance steps it has to go through. There are numerous issues that can pop up that holds up the filling process. Other customers for one thing... picking up, dropping off, asking questions, drive-thru, insurance problems, calling the doctor to review information... At any point there can be 60 other customers being filled at the same time.

It sounds as though one of the prescriptions had gotten held up in the queue, and the staff hadn't noticed yet due to other issues. Once the pharmacist does the "final check" on the prescription it will call the patient, but it still needs to be bagged. That doesn't mean it's ready as soon as it calls you...

The computer that we use to check you out with doesn't show us anything. It's frustrating actually, because we'd, ya know, would actually like to see the comments that someone took the time to put in the computer about patient's requests. Unfortunately, if someone doesn't see them in the comment field on the patient's profile, and puts them in a comment field that will show up during the checkout station, we can't see them. The computer system has a lot of bugs to be worked out for sure...

Walmart is one of the few pharmacies that allows the pharmacist to have a break during the day. Since this pharmacy closed for lunch, that probably meant that there was only 1 pharmacist there for the day, standing for 12 hours (9 AM - 9 PM). Most pharmacies do not close, and the pharmacist has to eat while checking your medicine. I think the reason Walmart got rid of that policy is because of the crumbs and food particles that were being found in patients' prescription bottles. Ew.

As for the deleted prescription I'm not sure what to tell you. I've heard of co-workers accidentally deactivating a prescription, but I'm unsure why they couldn't reinstate it... They should have a hard copy of some sort (prescription pad, phone transcription, facsimile, or e-script). I'm unsure of the laws, but unless it was a controlled medication the pharmacist could have re-scanned the prescription as a new one or called the doctor for a new one over the phone.

Anyway, I know this is an old thread, but perhaps this shall shed some light on what goes on behind the scenes of your Walmart Pharmacy for the future. I'm sorry this happened, and believe me, it's not what we strive to do. I hope everything worked out for the better for you.
