I got an email a few days ago from an American company that organizes Green Cards for a US Visa for individuals. I did an application with them a few years ago, after graduating from college, but have no interest in renewing it now. In the email they sent, they asked me to update my details & re-upload a photo, now it appears that I was mislead and in updating my details they renewed my subscription. I don't want any transaction to go through from them & have told them so, but they have not responded to my request.

Please see a copy of emails exchanged to further explain:

Dear Garry Kelly,
Please note that the charge for your application was only made once. We charged 29$ for one year in the green card lottery. The reason why your application is now locked is because our technical department needs to review it and we can~t have any change of details during the review.

Sincerely,

You have not answered my question: Have you charged me for registering an application which i only updated (2nd June 2007)?

What do you mean by locking my profile? Are you trying to automatically charge me now on a continuous rota?

I await a response anxiously,
Garry

###ing scam organization that US government won`t close because they secretly hired them and they make money on innocent people in this way, they`re nonentities and criminals they should be enjailed but won`t be coz as I said they work for US government secretly. Also ###ing show-offs who think all your country is ### and US is like a world centre or smth but it`s not true, ###ing almost ### on the phone from proudness and say "see u in New York" although they`re in fact in Israel or some other country and robbing all your money knowing they won`t be punished for that. Would beat the ### out of these people if I could!

For everybody who were ripped off by Usafis.
As this company is a fake business it is possible to get money back. One day they called me and gave impression they are government body and after couple of psychological tricks (almost 2 hours of conversation) they got my credit card details and charged for couple of hundreds Euro.
Forty minutes later I found was ripped off so called to VISA and blocked my credit card what I would recommend to other who gave them those details. I tried to contact them for next week but no answer so sent letter to VISA with all information from this forum (example of conversation from: usafis.org — fake company, examples of other people which were cheated and USA government warning) plus my e-mails.
After more than a week usafis contacted me and tried to convince to use their service but I wanted only refund. Finally they gave me around 55% back but I still sent them e-mail - wanted rest back. Unfortunately they deleted all without reading (if you sent them e-mail chose option with delivery and reading confirmation request so you will know that). I’m pretty sure this refund is another psychological trick which supposed to improve they are honest organization and convince you to don’t complain to credit card provider.
Finally I got cash back from VISA so I’m very, very, very happy because got all my money back, even it took me long time and a lot of hassle to do it.
My advice - never trust them, do not give up and try to get your money back!

If you apply throuh USAFIS you will not get the passwords or log in details to check the status online with the official site. USAFIS acts as a middle person and will not release any information unless you go through them and pay them $$$. i tried and failed.

One thing to consider is that if you were being sued you could chose to defend yourself in court at no cost.. but unless you're an attorney specializing in the field you need defense in it probably wouldn't be a wise idea. My understanding is that this organization has been helping people immigrate for well over 10 years. If they were fraudulent the government would have shut them down long ago. But the services are valuable. Just ask the millions who try to do it for free and never hear anything back on their applications because they aren't even considered due to errors on the applications. The State Department automatically disqualified any application that has any mistakes, blanks, photos of incorrect sizes or resolutions - and no-one notifies the applicant. Take your changes if you want, I wouldn't.

It appears that USAIFS.org is the real organization. Although I didn't completely understand how and why they do what they do, it seems that there are impersonators that use the organization's name and appearance to mislead people into paying enormous amounts of money to get the US visa.

Besides the total lack of morality of this behavior (but who is to expect morality from anyone in this crazy, money-hungry world) their nerve and the extent they go to to get you convinced is really dangerous.

To figure out if you were scammed or not you can check the USAFIS.org website. They have statements there about how their communication looks like and the email addresses they use (they all are "@usafis.org").

The addresses I received scam messages from were usafis.net@consultant.com (posing as USAFIS.org) and gov.states.dv@usa.com (posing as the US State Department - since when does the State Dpt. uses .com domains). The thing that really made me wonder was their payment request. Payment needs to be done by Western Union to:
Name : John Suiter
Address: 24 Grosvenor Square
London, W1A 2LQ
United Kingdom
First of all, this is a payment TO AN INDIVIDUAL BY CASH MONEY TRANSFER. If this doesn't trigger any alarm then I don't know what would. I don't think that any government would trust any individual to personally receive cash in its name.

Apparently the address belongs indeed to the US embassy in the UK but how these guys managed to register it on an individual's name with Western Union is a mystery to me.

I'm sorry for all of you who fell for this scam. I almost did myself. If you indeed registered for the green card with the US State Dpt. you will receive a confirmation number and you can check the status and the result of your application online. The information contained in the application confirmation states:

"You must retain your confirmation number in order to check your entry status using the internet. You may check back
at this link http://www.dvlottery.state.gov/ESC/ between May 1, 2011 and June 30, 2012 to determine whether your
entry was selected for further processing in the 2012 DV Lottery. You will be required to enter your confirmation
number in combination with other personal information in order to check on your entry status.
Selectees will not receive selectee notifications or letters by regular postal mail from the Kentucky Consular
Center (KCC)."

Therefore, NO INFORMATION or NOTIFICATION will be SENT to you by the US State Dpt. under any circumstance. This should be enough to realize that if you are receiving any such notification then something must be fishy.

These scams just show how cruel this system is that allows for people in need to be abused in such ways.

Best of luck to you all.

Mr. Kamara,

Please be advised this is not a USAFIS Organization email. It was done by criminals who wish to take advantage of our clientele. USAFIS has hired an investigative team to find out who are the people behind this reprehensible activity. In addition, we are enhancing our security measures to ensure this does not happen again in the future. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Hello, friends,

I've got my refund back this month, too. There's a web site: www.bustathief.com, you can find some tips there, including how to file a charge back. USAFIS might email you a link www.usafis.org-legal.asp, which is Terms of Use, with a lot of blah, blah, blah...saying that the organization is not a fraud and the customers can not file a chargeback. Shouldn't they post on the VERY FRONT PAGE to tell people about their No Refund Policy, and on the phone BEFORE they asked your credit card number? Make sure to ask your credit card company to ask USAFIS to prove that they are not listed as scam or fraud on the US government web page, because they did mentiion Immigration Related Websiteds".com, " ".org" or ".net" these sites may even be used to gather personal information that could result in identity fraud of theft.

There is always a way when you think there is no way. Everything has a solution. You have the right to ask your money back.

Do not trust usafis.org, its a fake organization. its takes your money and dump you in dificulty.
Such a bad organization, cheating you. Never, never get caught to these people.
I applied to us green card lottery in 2006 and they called me all the time to get my money. I sent them around 140/=us$ for 04.years programme.
In 2010 june they called me and said i have the 2011 dvlottery. One lady by the name of Maya Williams called and said, that i have won the lottery and to send the winning letter and other documents and have send them 388us$. Also she said they accept only credit card payments as to send the documents by DHL.
When i checked with the dhl office in my country, i was told it will cost only 75us$. Why these people are cheating, then i told her to send my letter by normal post. after few days another person called and started the same story. I sent them emails and informed to send my letter by post, they never replied. Later after many occasions of emails and telephone calls usafis.org service center said my letter was posted on 21st of june-2010. Today is 14th october until now i have not received.
What happened to my original winning letter sent by us state department to their address. These dirty org. trying get people's money for their dirty business. I paid to them for their service to submit my application. After winning are they are doing this?
Dear, friends you do not have to a cent to any bogus agencies. You can apply direct through us department website during fiscal period of each year. No charges its free of charge to apply for us green card lottery every year. You have to apply on timely basis with correct information.
Brother and Sisters! Do not trust these kind of agencies, never never
trust these people.

Disgusted applicant.

I applied for the green card lottery at www.usadiversitylottery.com in 2003 and again in 2004 and I was thrilled when they contacted me and told me that I had won a green card. They were extreamly helpful and helped me filling out the three immigration forms that I recieved in my winning notification and also helped me get ready for the interview at no additional cost. So was it worth the $49 i paid for them processing my application? I still think it was extreamly cheap for that service they provided and I would do it again if I needed to enter this program again.

USAFIS is totally a fraud (although they deny over and over and over), please note that on the government website, it did mention that "many other nongovernmental websites e.g., using the suffixes such as " .com", ".org" or ".net" provide legitimate and useful immigration and visa related information and sevices. ...These websites may attempt to require you to pay for services such as forms and information about immigration procedures, which are otherwise free on the Department of State ...These web sites may contact you by email to lure you to take advantage of their false offer to get a U.S. Visa. Additionally, be wary of sending any personal information, since these sites may even be used to gather personal information that could result in identity fraud of theft."
First of all, they didn't post any PRICE LIST and NO REFUND POLICYand PLEASE READ OUR WARNING ABOUT WE CHEATING YOUR MONEYon their website or on the phone before they lure you into credit payment. As if anyone can be a manager over there, and by the way, the sale representative and manager sounded almost the same. The price is made by themselves, when you showed your doubts, they lower the price and gave you discount. The sales representative told me that I could always cancel, downgrade or upgrade my options, which is really a big lie, too. However, it's not over, I am not willing to be a sitting duck. Whoever is victimized by USAFIS, you should all stand up and file the complaint IC 3 form from FBI. Now I even wonder if their address is real or just as fake as they are.

Hello my name is Roya, I understand everyone’s confusion because of the tons of commercial websites who take advantage of the green card program, which also confused me at some point until last month.

I’ll share with you my experience with USAFIS maybe it’ll give you some comfort or a different idea. I applied for the green card through USAFIS in 2007 and paid for 1 year program over the internet. I was then contacted by their agents who offered me multiple years submission program which I accepted and have paid for it, these were the only 2 times I paid and it wasn’t big money. Since then I received many calls from their friendly agents checking if my application is complete & if I had any questions, they also offered me native and business language programs to help me with my immigration but I didn’t buy any, it was optional anyway. I was also receiving emails from them and e-newsletters, you can unsubscribe if you don’t want them.

I was still confused until last month when I received a call from them informing me that I’m one of those randomly selected for the green card; one of the 100, 000 plus. They never guaranteed or promised that I will get the green card, but guided me for it & wished me good luck. The third last payment I made was to receive my documents by DHL ($49) and I did receive it. One of their agents called me to check if things are in order & if I did receive the documents. In fact it was nice customer service which I have to mention.

They instructed me to proceed immediately and send my forms to the US Department of State, Kentucky Consular Center, who’ll set an appointment for my interview with the Embassy/Consular in my place if my application was accepted. Now it is my chance, if I’m accepted for the interview, it’s going to be my own effort to win or lose.

USAFIS is not free because they offer a service package, that’s what I know, and if I became one of those lucky green cardholders I’ll let you know & will post a positive feedback in USAFIS website too.

I’d like if any of USAFIS members can post any feedback here, or any of the green card winners who applied through them. It’ll give some peace of mind to those who are confused.

Thanks

Important Notice - Be Warned

No fee is charged for the electronic lottery entry in the annual DV program. The U.S. Government employs no outside consultants or private services to operate the DV program. Any intermediaries or others who offer assistance to prepare DV entries do so without the authority or consent of the U.S. Government. Use of any outside intermediary or assistance to prepare a DV entry is entirely at the entrant’s discretion.

The Department of State strongly encourages applicants to complete the application without the assistance of “Visa Consultants, ” “Visa Agents, ” or other individuals who offer to submit an application on behalf of applicants. In many cases, these facilitators substitute their address for an applicant’s address and thereby receive the selection notification instead of it being received by the actual applicant. Subsequently, the visa facilitators extort money from the selectees in order to receive the notification information that should rightly have gone directly to the DV selectee.
