SmartStyle horrible job.

I also got a very bad cut from walmart salon. The sign read cut and style. I left with a wet head. I had told her three different times how I wanted my hair cut. She cut three different times and never got it. I have never had this problem before. I have cried and been laughed at by my husband. He told me that I was ugly and he was ashamed to be seen with such an ugly women. He wanted me to go somewhere else and get it fixed so he would not feel ashamed to be seen with me. I am going to find someone who can fix it today. My husband wished me good luck and said that I would need it. That perhaps if I am lucky he would find me beautiful again if he drank a six pack.I had very long hair before I entered there and it is up to my neck now. She wouldn't let me watch while cutting. I will NEVER go to one again and I will tell everyone I can how bad a cut I got.I should have know when she asked if I would pay in cash. I gave her a $20.00 bill. When I she stopped cutting she went in the back and didn't come out for a long time. I figured she was finished because she took the cape off. When she came back I ask about the drying she said I couldn't use it. What ? My husband just took my arm before I could get mad. He walked to the cash register so she could give our change and she then went to the back part again. My husband followed her and told her she must need it so just keep the change. We both know that money never made it to the cash register. I was traveling so I cannot go back there, but I will call and complain.

SmartStyle what a scam!

Smartstyle reminds me of lowlife telemarketers that scam people. They "forget" to mention you have to pay extra for things most salons don't charge for until you're facing the cashier. Adding conditioner while washing, blowdrying, and styling do not come with the "Wash & Cut" ad they promoted. I'm truly at a loss of words to describe how devastated I was to get home and see it! I had to dry my hair at home because I couldn't afford the extra charges. The length of my hair was originally at the middle of my back. I only wanted the layers trimmed. Now, it's barely to my shoulders. The layered look I wanted turned into a single, uneven layer that looks like a chin-length bob all around my head. The layer underneath the "bob" is longer, and very thin. It's the same appearance of Carol Brady's mullet look, only thicker. I can honestly say it's the worst haircut I have ever had. I'm so disappointed with the horrible mess the stylist made of my hair. It's embarrassing to go out in public now. I hate explaining what happened to my hair to others. Although some stylists are inexperienced, this one had nearly 15 years of experience. She ruined my hair and I had to pay for it. I can only hope that someone reads this before they have to pay for their own ruined hair. While awaiting my turn, many potential customers left because of the long wait. The stylists were swamped and cranky with each other and robot-like to customers. I will NEVER, I repeat: NEVER make that same mistake again! Total waste of money and time. Be warned!

SmartStyle bad haircut

I experienced the worst haircut style I've ever recieved in my life, at the Smartstyle salon inside the Walmart store in Chickasha Oklahoma. I had never been to a Smartstyle Salon before but I was in a hurry. Once I entered the salon my first impression was very negative, the place was filthy, stains on the wall, and an odor. I should have left at that point. I was approached by a middle aged "stylist" who instructed me to sit down at the chair where it says "Rhonda" and she would be right with me. Rhonda was wearing a cover that they put on you when they cut your hair, and her hair was soaking wet and pulled up into some sort of a bun, she apparently was in the process of getting her hair styled as well. I explained to her how I wanted my hair styled and she said ok. During the process of cutting my hair she hit my scalp several times with the clippers so I have marks all over my head now. After several minutes she spun me around where I could see myself in her mirror and I said "oh my God stop cutting my hair." She had cut my hair so short it may as well had been a bur cut. It was in no way near what I asked for. After telling her that she said, "well I didn't hear you." So, I guess if she didn't hear me she just gave me the style she wanted to give me? Anyway I am now too embarassed to go out in public. I contacted the store manager, Dave, and told him I wanted to make a complaint on Rhonda and after telling to him my experience Dave stated "there must have been a misunderstanding because she's been here for over a year." I've also left a voice mail at Dave's Boss' number at Smartstyle Salon Headquarters and waiting for their response. I am voicing my complaint because I would hate for someone else to have the same experience at the above mentioned location.

SmartStyle terrible experience

I worked for SmartStyle for three months. I loved the job at first, it was my first salon job so I felt like I finally was starting my profession after being out of school. The other stylists all seemed great and I felt like I would be there for a long time. I was never told of any issues but was brought into the backroom before starting one of my shifts and was fired with reasons such as too many redo haircuts, I know of two redo haircuts that was more on the side of the client being difficult than me not giving a good haircut. I had numerous occasions that the client would take my card as well as receive good tips for the majority of the haircuts I performed, if I was such a terrible stylist why would clients request me or tip me more than they needed to? The management told me upon letting me go that I was never warned or notified of this because they were trying to "help" me. It seemed like it was more personal than anything, there are so many things that now stand out as red flags to me.

During my three months of being employed by SmartStyle I experienced:

1) A salon manager that would come to work to do paperwork in the backroom in pajama pants (if you're a manager you dress the part regardless of whether you are taking clients)
2) Foul language by the stylists
3) A manager that would leave the store without the books being balanced upon closing.
4) A manager that would complain about me being too friendly but then wonder why she didn't receive tips and complain about it after the client left the salon
5) My clients being stolen if they called into the salon when I was not scheduled to work instead of the other stylists giving them a day to call back when I was working.
6) Open toed shoes or sneakers being worn by management and other stylists when the form upon being hired clearly states the guidelines towards this.

It clearly displays poor management, I'd hope that corporate wouldn't allow such behavior but this manager has been at the location for over a year and has yet to face any type of punishment for her actions. I'm not coming on here to cry because I lost my job, actually now that I look back at the experience and other complaints found here I'm happy that I no longer work in that environment. I simply wanted to put my review here so that other stylists that may be looking for a place to start out or work at know what I experienced.

SmartStyle working off the clock

It official I quit Smart Styles already, could not work somewhere that wants you to be there working but off the clock when not busy, but still there answering the phone and doing laundry and salting merchandise. Because you know that if you don't bring in what is an amount of money that's impossible you may really lose your job " but don't let no one know your doing all theses thing off the clock" Or that you are working on each other off the clock when one of you know you need to be on the clock. It ok as long as you know, I really know but wink wink I don't. I hate lying Hippocrates, and refuse to work under those reasonings . When you are at work 40 hrs. because you are scheduled to be there. Then you have to be clocked out for 30 min intervals or for hours. Some times as much as 28 hrs a week while still remaining there and clocked out. Being scheduled for 40 hrs and clocked in only for 23 while still answering the phones and ring merchandise up under the other employees number because you sold it but not clock in is illegal. Sham on you SMART STYLES and on you Arleen the salon manager when you are required to be at work 40 hrs a week and bring home $568. Every two week thats less then $6.25 an hr. wise up stylist you are worth far more... and yes I am going to tell the world!

SmartStyle burned my hair, did highlights wrong

I am not coming back. The stylist there, that I liked, and trusted, trashed my hair, knew she did it, tried to camouflage that so I wouldn't notice, burnt my ends, then had to cut it. Made like she didn't notice, because it was late in her shift. Called me yesterday, asking me why I didn't come back! Am I stupid? Then, after I told her, didn't even offer to correct it! I'm pissed! And more upset about the audacity, and lack of caring

SmartStyle over time

I've work there for about three Mon's. and worked a lot of over time, was not payed for any. They are so misleading, when it comes to who to call when there is a problem. There was no manager in store, there was a fill in from Head Start, from time to time. The D.M. you could never reach, much less get him to return a phone call. They make it so hard to figure out how you are payed, even they can't explain it .No wonder these salon's are barley open.Who even knows what there hours of operations are, they sure don't post them.

SmartStyle haircut

Never go there! chamblee 30341 location. OMG, i went there for a perm. My hair was at ear length, just like a nice bob. The hair stylist (Roz) told me that my hair was dull and that some strands were lifeless so i should get a cut. Having short hair already, i was skeptical but decided to go ahead and let her "Trim it" as she said. I went home with my sides length looking the same and the back completely chopped off. I have holes in my head in the back. How can a stylist cut your hair so short (in the back only) so that you end up with holes inside. I had to wear a wig and I will for a long time. Just imagine how bad it looks. My boyfriend told me that looks like a kid took a razor and cut the back of my hair. It looks really bad and now Its gonna take me months to grow it back to where it was. Im pissedddddddddddddd!
Seriously never get a haircut there, If you care about your hair.

SmartStyle bad work

After going there, for a usual salon visit... I was given a stylists that (unknown to me) was a recent graduate from Beauty School and High School. I wanted a trim and ended up in the chair for OVER TWO HOURS! Five inches were cut out of the back of my hair and an experience stylist had to take over & re-do everything! I had been growing my hair long, for religious beliefs, and only wanted the very long, straight hair to be evened-up. Instead, I came out of the salon with a shorter 'shaggy' cut.
The experienced stylist did not charge me and did offer an apology.
However, I think that it is essential that NEW Grads. get identified. She was Horrible!

Dear REDHATTERB,
At all hair salon schools, you understand the risk (even though there are trained experts 'over-seeing' the students.
I accept the risk, if I go there.
When going to a Professional Salon, THEY accept the risk. This is why the manager, voluntarily, took over and did not charge me.
She said.."I can not believe you are so patient and was in that chair for 2 hours"..."we hope we have not lost you as a customer"
* The manager did the right thing. However, I am NOT there and NOT expecting to be a subject for a student. YES, I want informed and NOT Cheated.!

i went in on march 3rd to get a perm. i wanted a jerri perm ( a really curly perm) so barbara was my stylist and the perm fell out the same day i got i don't enjoy paying 45 dollars for a perm that don't last 30 minutes. i want to
know if my money can be refunded and i'll go somewhere else to get it. i have had curly perms that lasted 6 months or more i'll just hunt my old stylist up and get her to do my hair.

If you used a product afterwards to help make it fall out or if you had any other chemical process beforehand, you won't get your money back. But if you followed their directions and precautions, chances are you could get your money back or they might have another stylist fix it. If you want your money back or a resolution- DON'T WAIT! Go in with your receipt and talk to the manager. If you wait too long they're going to think that you're just trying to snatch a freebie. The ball is in your court.

SmartStyle stylist not knowing how to do hair

I went to Smart Style in Buford, GA at a WalMart center and had my hair washed styled and trimmed. My hair is natural and the young lady informed me that she specializing in natural hair. I made a(n) appointment for the young lady to do my hair, and her name is Lex at the salon, after getting my hair done on Wednesday, Friday my hair was fuzzy and I contacted the stylist and informed her about my hair, and she stated that she would do it over, ok that was fine but then she calls back and states that she would not be able to do it. Then the text messages come in about her not going to refund me my money. So I call corporate and then they are rude even there, this is a company and if an employee does not do what they are suppose to then you need to make sure they know what they are doing the customer service line told me that the stylist did my hair personally so she can no do anything and they will not repeat themselves, this is not acceptable it was done in the salon but because she asked for cash they can do do anything about it. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO SMART STYLE THEY DO NOT SUPPORT WHAT THEIR EMPLOYEES DO AND TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS! THE EMPLOYEES ARE VERY RUDE!

SmartStyle deceptive stylist

Dear Customer Service,
Arrived at 2:40, ask for price of demi color $44.95, advised 20 min. wait, no problem, stylist started on my hair at 3:10. At 6:30 I was finally done. In the 3 1/2 hours I was in your shop, I received one demi color, no cut or blow dry. The stylist put the color on my hair, and all around my hairline on my forehead and temples I was full of color, she did not even take a towel to wipe it off, she finally washed and rinsed my hair so fast it felt like my hair was hardly under the water, I questioned her as to if that was enough to wash out color... she assured me she knew what she was doing. She tried to brush my hair out and it was full of tangles, she did not put any tangle spray or anything in my hair, she just kept pulling at it with the brush. I thought I was going to die from the pain and she said you must have a sensitve scalp. I rubbed my head to ease the burn of the brushing and my hand and fingers were covered in hair color. The ah-huh moment, the brush wouldnt go through my hair because it was full of color. Cant wait much longer have to go to Church and husband has the kids and has to fly out for job. Must get home asap. Get to register, hair dripping wet, color all over my hands and fingers, shirt wet...man this is aweful, tell myself will wash color out quickly when I get home. Its 6:30 they have to get go. Stylist says that bill is $84.95? What did something get lost in translation? She said she had to use extra tube of color x 2, other sylist comes over they review charges and then they adjust to $64.95, they ring my american express, I sign and then they say something is wrong with their register, they have me come back when I am half way out the door, re-ring my amercian express and I am finally on my way, wet hair and all. Get home wash my hair and dry it (yes will be late for church) but something else, my hair is RED at the rootline and doesnt match. Horrible service, surely to gouge innocent folks to bolster their commission. I will never return!

SmartStyle bad haircur, bad products

Against my better judgement, I stopped by Smart Style after work to get a haircut. I thought, its just a trim so how badly can they mess it up? Well, all I wanted was to have a few of my split ends trimmed off. My hair was not in terrible shape, so I figured at most 1/4 inch off. I wear glasses and cannot see well without them. The stylist stated she understood I wanted very little taken off the bottom, no extra layers, nothing fancy. She also verbally agreed that my hair was in great shape and did not need more than a 1/4 inch off. Apparently measurement is rough because she went waaaay overboard. You can imagine my shock when I found she had cut off almost an inch! To top it off, she recommended a conditioner for me to try. There was a sale on it and she stated if it didn't work I could exchange it. I tried it twice and it made my hair feel like straw. I could barely get a comb through my hair. It is the store brand volumizing conditioner. I called the salon, and the stylist stated that because it was on sale, there was nothing she could do. I reminded her she said I could exchange it and she got VERY nasty with me stating that as a stylist there was nothing more she could do and then hung up on me. Very poor customer service and apparently a trim is extremely dificult for them. I guess beauty school is tough for some people...

SmartStyle overcharging

Went in for haircut, prices not posted. Was told haircut was $15.50 including shampoo. At register was charged over $35, $15.50 for haircut, $14.95 for blowdry and $3.00 for conditioner I did not ask for. FYI, after my shampoo, the hairdresser wrapped my hair in the towel and walked me to the chair 6 feet away. When she took the towel off, my hair was still dripping and my shirt got all wet. She offered to blow dry my hair because I was cold, or so I thought. I thought she was being kind. I felt crummy when I left, even though the haircut was nice. I will never go back.

SmartStyle threatening boss

I have been an emplyee of smart style for about a month .I gave my notice a week ago after being very disappointed in the way they do things. I have a week to go and not sure I am able to endure it. Today he had me punch in for two hours and as I was leaving he started screaming at me that I better not push his buttons next week and that I am a totally negative person, which is not the truth. He has everyone believing and has turned around certain incidents to make him look better even in front of customers.
Is it worth sticking out the time or just quiting now?
He said that if I don't do a two week notice that I wouldn't be able to find a job at corboration at Regis. I am trying to do the right thing, but I am not sure that I can. I used to be a customer and now an employee and SmartStyle is using both. My peers are basically out of school by a couple of months and don't know any better.

SmartStyle rip off

Went to my local Wal-Mart on Daniels Parkway and Highway 41. I was having a stressful morning, so decided to go to Smart Style to have my hair washed and blow dry.

I was signed in at 11:45 a.m. for my daughter and me to only have a hair wash and blow dry. (This is a mother, daughter and aunt working there shop - a family!) No waiting list and no one was being serviced when I arrived and when I left - there was no one there waiting for service. This is why...

There was no sign displaying the cost of the shampoo. But, I figured how much can they possible charge. On average it's between $2.00 and $4.00 per person.

The "aunt" that was washing my hair asked me do you want a quote on how much it will cost to have your hair blow dried. I said sure. For your daughter's hair (shoulder length) the cost is $18.00 on top of the $13.00 hair wash and for you $25.00 (long length) on top of your $13.00 hair wash. I was shocked at the amount of the fee and told her no, thanks. Towel dry is good.

Needless to say, we both left there with our hair dripping wet and where charged $26.00 for a wash (did not even get a receipt). I looked up at the clock as I paid and it was 11:52 a.m. (7 mins for both for $26.00) WOW! Talk about highway robbery!

I would discourage EVERYONE from going to this salon! You get a better wash and dry at Cost Cutters, Fantastic Sams (Same type of chain salons as Smart Style) for those money tight situations and for a high end salon I would say go to Vincent's or "Hair Salon" on Lee Blvd.

But, Never, Ever go to Barbara, her mother and aunt shop! Yike! There is nothing "Smart" about this place other than rip offs!

None of this is true. We have signs posted about how much it costs. Yeah it did cost $13 for the shampoo, but this was for all four people. Herself and her three daughters. The $13 was for four people. The mother and one daughter chose to have their hair dripping wet because the youngest daughter who is in my daughter's sixth grade class does not like the heat and is scared of having her hair blow dried. I have a feeling that this complaint has more to do with my daughter and her daughter not getting along. They don't like each other. My daughter does not work there. She just sits there and does her homework. She is only 11 after all.

SmartStyle district manager

I'm an exceptional experienced stylist who recently applied with a Smart Style in Temecula, Ca after relocating from a different area, where I had been trained by Mater Stylist and had worked in a reputable Salon for 7 yrs. I basically had to start over because of the move and felt that I had a lot to offer the Co. I was interviewed by the district Manager whom read off a piece of paper- like a robot when questioning me. She also was very overweight and it was obvious she didn't feel good about herself...never smiling and being negative about other employees...(rolling eyes when mentioning them) very unprofessional. The only reason I wanted to even apply there was because of the awesome stylist, "Michelle" who built the company up and made it look so good. She is the one who should have had that ###s job. Anyway...I'm baffled at the fact this lady turned me away...she could have had the most talented Hairstylist working for her, basically for free practically. She was just too miserable to realize it.

SmartStyle vickie williams

I took my mother for a hair cut which we had to sign on a waiting list of 45 min. so while she was having her hair cut I did my shopping inside the store. After about 30 min. of shopping I came to check on my mother and she was just starting to cut her hair. In the mean time I have milk and frozen products in my cart and waited in the lobby outside the salon by then the check in person at wal mart told me i could wait for my mother inside the salon, as soon as I went in this Vickie Williams spoke harsley & rude in a manner that was unexceptable, and said I would have leave with my cart and that was fine, I had not problem with leaving with the cart BUT the manner she was treating me was horrible. If I was African American like vickie williams instead of being caucasian, SHE would not have spoke to me in the manner that she did. Being the manager there was not a customer trait that she should be in. She had a chip on her shoulder and VERY PREJUDICE TOWARD ME!
Needless to say I will never recommend this place to anyone and we will never go into a style smart EVER.

SmartStyle poor management

iam an x stylist of smart style. ron a former salon manager promoted area supervisor caused the the loss of clients and stylists alike due to his uneducated choices. he wanted the stylists to upcharge 3.00 for a conditioning service with out the client knowing about it. myself and other stylists didnt feel comfortable doing that so we didnt. he didnt like that very much. one day while i was helping out another salon. he came in stood at the reception desk . did some paperwork and stood there again doing nothing. it was 1pm and a lady came in wanting a perm i had to leave to get to my other job that he knew about . i was finishing up a haircut and he asked me if i could do the perm, i told him i couldnt in a professional tone and that i had to leave by 130 which he was aware of and that i could take the next haircut if they came in before 115pm. he didnt seem to like my answer, he than looked at me and said you are free to leave for the day. he than walked the client over to the sink took off his blazer and said with the client present said "didnt think i would have to be a stylist since i got promoted". another thing i didnt like was the fact the haircuts were too expensive they wanted 18.95 for adults and 15.95 for kids. the whole time i worked there i only had two complaints nothing minor and both clients were bi poular and both times i had to take these clients without a salon manager or another stylist present. a few weeks later ron gave me my pink slip to sign and i refused to sign it. he falsyfied it stateing i refused a client and that i had 5 complants. donna who was one step higher than ron, they were good friends wasnt present when i was given the pink slip . Now to think of it i never met her once that whole 1 and half years i was there. i called and complained to human resources about it and of course they didnt do anything about it. a year later my salon manager in willamsville who was a great person with a big heart left also . and now works down the street, and took all of her clients with her. another big problem was the professional products we sold in our salons, somehow walmart got ahold of them and started selling the same salon products on the shelf . this also caused the salons to lose money. the salon could of had a full line of salon only brands the public couldnt get their hands on. it wouldnt surprise me if smartystyle division goes out of busniess trade serect already has. because of this. and to the general public the demos on you tube on how to cut hair, the stylists in Elle, Instyle and Vogue are not stylists at all but instead have there mbas in fashion, and clothes styleing.Granted fashion and hair mix but these editors didnt go to school for what us stylists went for . we have more training education, and keen eye for the clients needs and wants, does not make you the public a hairstylist. and yes sallys is open to the public for a reason, that reason is clairol it may look professional because its in a tube and can be applied with bowl and brush, but can also be found on the tops shelves in a box. also stacy london isnt a real fashion expert. because if she was she would know the pantene collection has an ingredent simlar to floorwax that builds on your hair giveing it that shine . all and all if you are a student graduating soon please do not apply for the smart style salons inside of walmart or regis for that matter. you will be treated like a number and if you the number dont push sales by lieing to clients, upchargeing them or pushing them into an addional service they dont want . you will lose the clients and your job.

You can upsell with out being pushy. I have worked for Smart Style for 3 years. I upsell all the time. I have not had upset customers because I am up front with them about the price prior to even doing the service. If you have a problem upselling then you really will never succeed in this business, not just in a smart style but in the business period. Why would you not want to increase your sales? People are not as stupid as you think they are they do understand that there is no such thing as a free lunch. It is all in your approach. If you can't upsell a simple conditioning service, how are you going to upsell into color or perms? I don't know about you but I will not settle for being a mediocre stylist. This is my career not my hobby and I need to make a living. I have a great client base that grows daily. I guess I just really don't understand the hostility towards a company that gives you all the tools you need to succeed, provided that you know the right way to use them. If you are unhappy working there, then maybe this is not the company for you. If you don't feel like upselling is something you want to do perhaps going to a salon that pays an hourly wage is a better choice. Don't tear an entire company apart because you can't upsell a conditioner, or because you didn't know the right way to approach the upsell. And further more, what happens when you need a job somewhere and Regis Corp owns half the beauty industry, I'm thinking burning your bridges with the company may not be in your best interest, because if you are "giving away" all your services and supplies because you don't feel right charging for them you will run yourself out of business in a booth rent or work for yourself situation. Silly Stylist...

SmartStyle they fired me with out reason

I am from asia and i worked at smart style, new Albany, Indiana.

smart style manager discriminated me she said that she doesn't like me, on June first. i started my job on april 22nd 2011. i went to my work and the manager told me, you can leave.

i asked for the reason and she said you don't know how to open and close the salon. she never taught me to do that.

later on, i called the state supervisor and i asked for the reason, and she said that no one liked me at smart style. i am still shocked at that statement.

I totally agree with you, they need to hire good managers, their manager only work there for money. Regis company need to watch who they're hiring and if they do their job right. they have bad customer service. somebody needs to do something about the people who work there! they're all full of _______! someone's better off working at flee market than to get a job at smart styles!
