Sergeant's Pet Care Products review: Poison - it kills pets 133

Last night I lost my four month old kitten because I used Sargeants Flea medicine on my dog and the kitten licked him. I immediately rinsed his mouth and realized he had also rubbed against the dog so I bathed him. He convulsed for 12 hours and I knew he wasn't going to ever be okay so I had to put him down. I am devastated. I live out in the mountains with no vets open late at night. I am an animal lover and to have to do this to a kitten I hand raised and loved dearly is breaking me. I hate Sargeants for making such an awful product. I knew not to use it but a friend gave it to me because her dog gave my dog fleas and I felt obligated to try it after her glowing review. I only used part of the container and the dog was fine, a bit lethargic. Not my baby kitten. Screw you Sargeants!

It is obvious that Sergeant's is not going to take responsibility for what their products are doing to animals. I submitted a complaint because 2 of my dogs suffered complications after my sister applied Sentry Pro XFT. Within 5 hours, my male dog, Alvin, was growling, whining, moaning, and crying. Alvin was air scratching, twitching, had tremors, spasms, and was shaking as if he was trying to dry off. (We took him to the ER). The next morning, my female dog, Maybel, was having the same symptoms. There isn't an antidote. Vets had to call poison control twice. Alvin had to be hospitalized. We called and spoke to Sergeant's medical representatives several times. They're reading off of a script. We were told once we washed the dogs in a dish detergent, like Dawn, 3 times, then applied vitamin E oil, and ice packs, their symptoms would resolve within 24 hours. Well, we applied Sentry Pro XFT on 10/29/16. We washed it off on 10/30/16, less than 24 hours after it was applied. Today is 11/26/16..and their symptoms have still not complete resolved. Both dogs are still suffering from skin sensitivity.

Sergeant's products need to be removed from the shelves immediately! My sister is a vet tech. She applied the Sentry Pro XFT. The product left a greasy residue on their fur, that kept spreading. Their fur was still greasy when we bathed them. The dogs were separated after we applied the product. The potential rub off onto their dog beds, couches, blankets, etc..is dangerous. A dog could lick where the product rubbed off and ingest the chemicals. Animals could lick each other. Not only is it dangerous to animals, but to humans. We're being exposed to the chemicals. Or at least we were...the Sentry Pro XFT, as I said, was greasy and never dried. We've used other topicals. In fact, my vet just applied Revolution to our puppy. It dries immediately. You can't even see where it was applied. The product I received was defective. Obviously, all of Sergeant's products are harming, and in too many cases, causing the death (or owners needing to euthanize) of dogs and cats.

The problem is, owners aren't aware of the possible harm or complications...until the damage has been done. We're finding this information out after our animals have died or experienced reactions/complications. Sergeant's isn't taking responsibility. I have bills that I can't afford to pay for my dogs because I used their product. I was told that I could submit the paid bills. Once they are paid, I'd have to fill out forms, and they would decide whether or not they would reimburse me, which could take months. I'm disabled and my only source of income is my Social Security check. I can't afford to pay for the damage their product caused.

I think it's time owners go to the mainstream media and share their stories. Right now, they're hidden..unless you're specifically looking, owners are unaware. I have videos of my dogs and what they were experiencing, proof of purchase, invoices, etc..If enough owners come forward, we can bring awareness to the damage and deaths their products have caused. Or a Class Action Lawsuit. No animal should have to suffer like my dogs were..and continue to, long after the product was applied. Another animal shouldn't die or have to be euthanized because of Sergeant's products. If you want to bring awareness to what Sergeant's products are doing to animals, share your story with the media, and start a Class Action Lawsuit, please message me. We need to advocate for animals. They don't have a voice, but we do!

I Checked these out really close and i didn't see any Flea eggs I believe its from the Cat Flea collar i put on earlier this week and that's a Sergent's Silver for cats 5 lb and up So if you do try this flea collar check for this reaction she's not sick and eats OK no blood or the clear crap. But what she did do was get in a box that was my Son's from collage that had those dam Laundry jell packs that's concentrated and must of broke one open she had it all over and that would of caused an issue I'm sure of so Bath time she didn't like it in the least. But after a Minute or so she liked it and she's happy So see that u have cats watch out for these collars Not speaking Bad of them just noticed it and it may not even be the collar OK But it could of been from the fleas she had

She also has them under her neck in like 4 place's 1/2 inch size but the top where it rested are the ones like an inch in dia.by 3/8 oval shape she eats and drinks fine

Well i wish i had looked it up be4 using it a lot of complaints and a lot of them died she acts weirder than usely and goes in these meowing fits thought it was odd and funny because they were really long and odd like she was singing and not a meow should of recorded a video . did it in her sleep and middle of the night woke me up and i thought someone was yelling it stopped now a little .. I just wonder what it would of done to a lighter cat. She was like tripping on lsd and the really loud meowing has almost stopped she only does it when i look at her it's not a painfull meows almost like she's trying to talk to me and yes i know cats don't talk

I took the collar off when i noticed it a few days ago But the main issue is liver damage I had also bought the Cat Drops for 5lb and over and haven't used it yet i had wanted to give the cat time so she didn't get too much and was going to apply like a week later IDK now Have any of you had this issue

Also whats the best safe flea control she's a indoor Cat thats 9+ years Old

Purchased Sergeants Gold & Tick Squeez-On and as directed put it on my small 15 lb Maltese Dog. Within seconds my dog became wild and uncontrollable. It was obvious he was in great pain. He rolled and raced from room to room for hours upon hours with a twitching or tremor of the rear portion of his body. His heart was racing wildly and his panting never stopped for hours on end. I thought he was going to die. I called the 800 number on the package and was told to wash with Dawn Dishwashing soap and use vitamin E on the areas where he appeared to be burned. Perhaps this saved him from dying but it did not stop the rage he was feeling in his body.

I have surfed the internet and found there are pages and pages of complaints of this product and many requests for Wal-Mart to take this produce off the shelves. Some of these people have even had their pets to die from administering this product to them. Some pets had foaming at the mouth and became lethargic. One person had three pets; one dies and the other two are still in vet hospital.

I along with the other customers beg of you to please have someone look into this matter and have this poisoned product taken off the shelve. This would save many pets lives. I can't beleive this product is still sold after all the complaints that have been registered.

Would appreciate it if you could make Wal-Mart stores everywhere aware that this product does cause fatalities in animals.

About three years ago I used Sergeants Gold shampoo for Cats. I used it on my Maine coon.
Four hours later, " ( I found her dead.") Still greiving. Warning everyone, do research before using any pet products and do not buy anything over the counter.

This is my second attempt using the Sergeant's Pet Product- over the counter flea and tick sqeeze-on . My first experience, a few years ago, I worked with 10 rescue dogs and needed to save a little money so I purchased Sergeant's Gold for my two Chihuahuas, and one Min Pin mix all under 20 lbs - I used the under 20 lb product. All three became very sick, foaming at the mouth and crying as if they were in pain. It was visible that it was something on their skin hurting them. I called the 800 hotline and they instructed me to bathe them with dishwashing liquid in order to wash the product off and that this was an isolated incident and out of the ordinary. Because of this incident I knew what to do when my new 2 year old Chihuahua began vomiting and crying as if he was in pain when I used the Sergeant's Silver flea and tick sqeeze on. This recent occurance let me to do a little research and found there are numerous complaints about this product, and as an Attorney, I am compelled to have an order filed to get Sergeants to remove this product from the shelves for good. I am very concerned about the negligence involved here. And minimally, I will bring awareness to this issue.

We gave our 3.5 year old lab a treatment with this squeezeable flea and tic and the problem began. This was done around 7pm. This dog which is very very mello started pacing all over the house and we had no idea. The next day after a bad nigt we take Libby the dog to the office as alway and all she can do is pace and kept trying to get to her back and legs. My wife went on the web and found the bad news on the product we just used to make our dog alittle safer. SO MUCH FOR THAT! After some benadril with not much response I called a friendly semi retired vet that told me never to use Sargents and what to give our dog to help. After a couple days she is getting back to normal. This stuff would be like giving poision oak to your child and watch them wiggle. I would never reccomend using this

Please PLEASE help me take this product off the shelves. This video I found online depicts a family at the vet with their cat. Everyone in this family is crying in emotional agony over their cat, which they brought in to have out put down. This poor cat fell into an irreversible seizure after being treated with Sergeant Bandsect tick repellent. This family says their goodbyes before they are forced to let their friend go.

My cat has been on an IV at the vet's office for two days after using this product. I will NEVER, NEVER buy this product again. I don't even know if my cat will live. As soon as I used it, he started having seizures and acting like he was hallucinating, twitching, vomiting, panting, felt hot to the touch, sprayed urine, biting, just to name a FEW of his symptoms. I cannot believe that they still sell this product, to me that seems negligent.

This video shows what this evil product has DONE...complaints on this site go back YEARS and nothing has changed. Maybe a Class Action Lawsuit will get your attention and SHUT YOU DOWN!

I applied Sergeant's Flea & Tick Squeeze-On for Dogs on my C-Spaniel - he is 2 years old and weighs 25 lbs and I used the product for dogs 33 lbs and under. About 10 minutes after the application it was obvious it was affecting his nervous system. He became lethargic, almost comatose but his body kept twitching. It was horrible to see and I immediately placed him in the shower and washed the stuff off with regular shampoo. He was OK after that within a couple hours. I read a prior response from Sergeant's representative to a similar report indicating the customer used a combination of this product with a flea/tick shampoo and indicated the combination was likely the cause. PLEASE NO THAT I DID NOT USE A COMBINATION OF ANY PRODUCTS AND MY DOG SUFFERED THE HORRIBLE REACTION WITH THE USE OF ONE APPLICATION. It appears to be highly toxic and I am shocked that the EPA allows this product in the US, on the shelves of Walmart to be sold to unsuspecting consumers.

I bought this product and administered it to my dogs and shortly afterwards they became ill. My Shihtzu became very ill and got blisters on her we had to rush them to a emergency vet where they were bathed in daen dish soap and were given antibiotics and are now recovering but this was very scary and expensive !

These flea drops about killed my cat also. He was given 3 baths to remove this stuff. It has been 2 months he is still sleeps all the time and is very skinny. He is eating now and looking a little better though. I'm still not sure if he will ever recover fully from using this product. It really upsets my young daughter that her cat is so sick. They ought to be ashamed of themselves selling this product.

Please take sergeant bansect off the market! By word of mouth your products will be banned from Consumers in the Rescue Realm and by Individual Consumers! Your Company should be sued in a nationwide class action suite w/pain and suffering included ! Many had to have their beloved pets euthanized due to your bad products and those lucky enough to survive have never been the same, People who believed in your products assumed they were safe because they were allowed on the US markets ! Another thing frowned upon by people everywhere is your continues use of animals for lab experiments .I pledge to make a difference by forwarding all info to others . I bought the Sergents flea Collar for cats at least 12 weeks old. Long story short. One day my 6month old cat had about 7 seizures back to back. I ended up at the ER Vet at 2am, I had to put him down. He was a beautiful deaf kitty that I had adopted b/c his owners had just put him out. It broke my heart to watch the fiaming at the mouth hideous seizures. I can't believe this product is still in the market! The photo is when I first found him, before I out the collar in him.

I I had used Sergeant's products years ago so I purchased "Sergeant's Silver Flea & Tick Spray For Dogs" for spot use on my 5 year old male Pomeranian until Advantix II arrived via mail. He was a lively, energetic young dog with a heavy coat - so heavy that fleas had a hard time finding a place to bite him. They settled mostly on his ears and around his nose and eyes so I sprayed a cloth and dabbed in on rather than spraying his face. First application was fine but there were still a few stragglers living so a few days later I repeated the procedure and, after a couple days, I applied it the third time to those areas. After the 2nd application, I noticed that he wasn't as energetic but thought nothing of it because the hot, humid weather sapped my energy, too. The third application was the clincher ... after a few hours he'd only get up and move a foot or two and lay down again, he wouldn't eat, vomited a couple of times and wouldn't drink. After a few hours, I thought he was improving because he got up and wanted to go out to do his business but once outside, he simply laid down. I carried him back in the house and laid him beside my chair (his favorite spot) so I could monitor his condition. I checked him once and he seemed to be resting so I didn't bother him but the next time I checked him - he didn't move when I called his name. I put my hand on him to see if he was OK but it was too late, he was gone. I had no idea what had caused his death until I checked product reviews on the net and found dozens of horror stories like this. I can't prove that this product killed him because it was far too late to take him to a vet (plus it was on a weekend when it's impossible to contact area vets). What it all boils down to is that my misplaced trust in Sergeant's products made me an accessory in the death of my beloved pet because I was the one who applied the product! The total amount of the spray used was far less than 10% of a complete body treatment or his death probably would have occurred much sooner. My advice is to search out other reviews which will, hopefully, keep you from purchasing and using this terrible and potentially deadly product on your pet.

Please DO NOT buy ANY SERGEANTS SILVER products! I used the squeeze on for fleas ticks and Mosquitos for cats and in the middle of the night I saw that my cat was hunkered down in the floor unable to move, shaking and making a clicking noise having a seizure. I was so scared, I called the emergency vet and they confirmed it WAS caused by this product that it caused nuerological problems and tremors in animals. They suggested an immediate bath with dawn dish soap to remove any remaining product from getting into her system. They then have her medication to relax her muscles and symptoms. So far hours later, she seems to have gotten better, no shaking and has managed to pick at some food. I have 2 cats (brother and sister), the other wasn't affected but he was bathed soon after. I read reviews on the product and similar and even some worse reports were made about their pets not only from this particular SERGEANTS SILVER product but just about every other in this brand too. I DO NOT RECOMEND PLEASE DO NOT USE! I'd also like to add that if anyone else have these same symptoms please take your pet to the vet instead of just bathing them so that they can relax the muscles and get some of the poison out of there systems I'm not sure just a bath would do for this. I came across a very heartbreaking video online of a family at the vet with their cat wrapped in blankets. This cat had been previously treated with Sergeant Bansect tick repellent, and fell into an irreversible seizure. I put Sergeants Gold drops on my 4 cats last night. Three of them are spending the night at the vet clinic tonight. The three that had side effects were all lethargic. One of them vomited a lot. Another one had uncontrollable trembling on and off. The vet said he sees numerous pets whose owners have unknowingly used these products on their pets. He showed me a picture of a dog that had chemical burns all over its back. He said that often when they report it to Sergeants, the company tries to blame the pet owners for not using it correctly. However, he has observed that in most of these cases the products are being used as directed.

i bought these off ebay.also the collar is dangerous as cat collars have a elastic piece on them so if the cat get's caught in something they wont choke.
these collars have no elastic.

How can they sell this stuff? I applied it to my cats today before reading all this only after they became very ill. I have bathed both cats in dawn. They need not worry about paying half or all of my vet bill if anything happens I will proceed with a lawsuit. I have one back to normal and one still throwing up. This is uncalled for.

I just had to put my 11 year old companion "Puss" down after he got seriously ill from Sergeants Bansect product and could not be healed. I will write later exactly what happened and the timeline from July til September 29th, when I had to finally end his suffering. I am too distraught right now to contact Sergeants and or file my complaint, but I wanted to post this on here and would welcome anyone else who has lost a pet to this horrific product, especially other cat owners, to contact me with your stories. I want to find out all the places where I can complain about this product, and I also want to know if there are any individual or class-action suits that were brought against the company. I would appreciate any information... I cannot believe I have lost my Puss. He was fine one day, then immediately after the product, he changed forever, and went downhill fast. In the meantime I have racked up huge vet bills. Puss had to go to the vets several times, was hospitalized twice... once for almost 5 days. I had to pay for all of the meds we tried for him, and there were LOTS. And of course, I just had to pay for services for someone to come and send him to the cat heaven in the sky, or wherever his next great adventure is... plus cremation, etc. I want to ask Sergeants to reimburse me for all this, and if they will not, I may just sue them. I am so sad, so very sad...

You can just use dawn dish soap for fleas too, I have had 4 rescue cats not from shelters in bad condition (bad fleas and worms + malnourishment), and the go to method is Dawn, its safe for kittens and puppies and you too. The fleas and ticks don't like it, in just three washings I got all the fleas off of my moms new kitten in a couple days, when we went to the vet, he couldn't find any. My moms now 3 year old cat had fleas crawling in and out of his nose, ears and eyes (yes they do that) but with persistent washing I got rid of them with Dawn, the only one of the four that didn't have bad fleas didn't get washed as much, and now trying to bath him just gets water on the floor and you all bloodied up. But he has dry skin and dandruff so we (sadly) have to drug him and take him to the groomers. The other three (the kitten JC is still just 3 month) are fine with water. Cats do not naturally hate water, they are just not used to it, so if you have a kitten bathe them about once week if they don't have fleas (more often if they do) and feed them treats after, and you can condition them to not associate water with bad. Also never spray water at your cat when they are bad, that will cause problems for you later. Just don't use flea and tick medicine, now I have nothing against worm medicine, use that fully, there is no non-chemical way to go about that one, but only from your vet!

How can we get this off shelves & save are animals, to late to have learned my lesson !

Killed my cat last week Archy is dead, this needs to be removed. Anyone know where to make a formal complaint ? This is to much REMOVE IT OFF SHELVES & STOP KILLING ARE ANIMALS. THIS IS TARGETED AT LOW INCOME WHO CANT AFFORD FRONT LINE OR ADVANTAGE

tetrachlorvinphos is the chemical sergeants uses in their flea medicine still... the EPA banned its use in other home products except insecticides. sadly it's effects on the nervous system of my friend's cat gave it seizures to the point of euthanasia... On a lower dose than needed because it's case of fleas was small.

The effect it's had on my OWN family. is my 18month old nephew who pets animals and got tetrachlorvinphos from the pet into him through his skin, or putting his hand in his mouth after petting the animal possibly. Its gave him Central Nervous System problems, and my brother has a lawsuit filed currently, but sergeants keep filing motions to postpone it, or try to mediate it out of court. The EPA has not responded since 2009 about tetrachlorvinphos still being used after their ban of it in other products in 2005

Piece of ### sergeants. God, now I know what to tell my mom not to use. I cried on watching a cat shaking and had to be put down. I love my animals and should sign a petition on banning it or take it out of the market!

I think they are terrible products, and all these stories made me take an interest. I checked the Better Business Bureau to find Sergeant's has an A+ rating. Apparently they have had only 20 complaints since 2008 and they "deal" with them to the BBB's satisfaction (not necessarily the pet owner's). It's really no wonder these products are still on the shelves if people don't do anything about it. There are far more than 20 complaints here alone, and it sounds like most of the vets involved were very familiar with this problem. How did only 20 people complain in the last 6 years? I burned a bald spot on my cat many years ago using one of these kinds of cheapo flea products and have only gotten my flea medicine from the vet since. As a pre-vet student, I will be asking a lot of vets if they see a lot of this, and urging people to report problems with the BBB.

So apparently this is NOT distemper! I've had a few kittens and cats with distemper in my 22 years of life and there is never any seizuring. this is completely something to do with that product. I just watched a video of a cat dying from it cried through the whole thing. and some of you people are heartless enough to blame the human... I own four wonderful cats and a great dog... this makes me very glad that I have NEVER seen this "cheap" product on my valleys shelves ill stick with simple FRONTLINE collars and only during the summer

Julie, you are sorry that the customers "had a less than positive experience" with your product and suggest they check out a website? that is a most inappropriate and ridiculous response to the type of complaint made. Beloved pets (family members) having seizures and dying because of your product is something I would word a little more strongly than 'less than positive.' Take the product off the market before you cause more suffering and break so many more hearts.

We went on vacation and left our two dogs with a friend. When they returned they had fleas. I usually use an organic oatmeal shampoo on our Australian Shepherd and his coat is always silky, shiny, and soft. My husband bathed them in Sergeant's Skip Flea and Tick shampoo that he purchased on the way home thinking that would help the flea problem. Big mistake! First the Australian Shepherd started scratching constantly then his coat became very oily but he had so much dry skin coming off of him it was unbelievable. I bathed him in the regular oatmeal shampoo and brushed him and he seems better. This is the nastiest harshest shampoo I have ever seen for a dog. Don't buy it just bathe them really well and use some Frontline. Sergeants Skip Flea and Tick Shampoo is junk. I threw the partially used shampoo away.

PLEASE read this as Murphy Oil Soap is the BEST way to rid your pets of fleas and ticks. Wash your pets with Murphy Oil Soap as it will kill any parasite and rinse well. Wash your house with it as a further parasite killer. It is the ONLY safe way for your pet.
