I purchased my home in May, 2011. Terry Paterson, as project manager, had to coordinate some electrical, plumbing, and mechanical in my old house. His subcontractor, Rolando Air Conditioning, completed the new AC system. In addition, half of the needed impact windows and doors were installed by Terry's men. He also had icynene insulation sprayed in the attic. He did the exterior painting of the house. I called Terry Paterson because he is my neighbor, living a few houses down the street. At first, he seemed OK and willing to help. He gave a big estimate in Excel format, which included a new expanded kitchen and two new bathrooms (over $160, 000). Excel is very confusing and lacked clarity.
Paterson was fired before knocking down the wall between the old kitchen and dining room, and building a new expanded kitchen-- which my new general contractor completed in the spring of 2013. I was also looking forward to new master and guest bathrooms, which have not been completed yet because my renovation budget is exhausted. He would email revised Excel sheets with figures juggled around. I could not sign it. This was just an oral contract between us. He did not take my budget into account, and he refused to narrow down his proposed estimate and scope of work. I thought he and his workers would show more class. They are not professional and never on time. When I had issues, even minor ones, he was not quick to respond. It was easy to see that he didn't care about customer satisfaction. Terry Paterson does not pay attention to detail. After hiring him, I slowly began to realize that something was not right with him. I paid him over $60, 000 for the work he claimed he finished. (...My new kitchen was finally finished in the spring of 2013, when I hired another general contractor. My new general contractor also had to fix some of the work Paterson did wrong. The electrical work in the attic was a mess, and posed a fire hazard...)
The main reasons for firing Terry Paterson was his poor time management and his method of billing for work performed. His method of billing caused me headaches and confusion. In addition, he did not get permits. Being from New Jersey, I didn't know about the whole permitting process in Fort Lauderdale. Another neighbor educated me, and said I should report him to the city. I did report him, and he got the permits "after the fact." As a result, our relationship deteriorated even more, and he became somewhat hostile. Language in his emails showed not only anger, but a lack of character. I thought it was sort of stupid to put stuff in writing like he did.
Terry Paterson was overpaid for the work he delivered. After I fired him, he came up with another amount over $4, 000 that he said I owed him. He gave me no invoice, and said that if I didn't pay he would put a lien on my property. I asked to him why we did not have a conversation on additional work, and why there was no "change orders."
I told him I paid him alot of money already. However, I gave his assistant, Jessica, a check for $4500 because he lives so close to me, and I desperately wanted to end my association with him. I began to feel scared.
I later discovered that Terry Paterson hasn't been paying his own property taxes. I was shocked. Here is the link:

This is one general contractor you should stay away from.

The individual in question, Terry, is a rather unsavory character, exhibiting traits of dishonesty, racism, and homophobia. He is a product of the apartheid era in South Africa, and his behavior is quite unbecoming of a person of his social standing. Keep away from him, all his friends and relatives.

You're missing the point. Mr. Cashel has a point here. This Paterson guy hasn't paid his property taxes in 3 years. https://www.broward.county-taxes.com/public/real_estate/parcels/494225-03-1390
This site is known for span. I wouldn't take it this info to heart. It amazes me that people like these have extra time to write this ###...

I think Mr. Cashel has a point. This Paterson guy hasn't paid his property taxes in 3 years. https://www.broward.county-taxes.com/public/real_estate/parcels/494225-03-1390 Can't be that successful business owner.
Wow. Cant wait these taxes off so I can own his house. This site is known for spam content. I wouldn't take any of this ### to the heart though. I'm very surprised that people waste their time here...

Both these negative comments above are fake and/or incorrect. I know that the first person who claims to be a "Property Investor" is actually Terry Paterson's neighbor who Mr. Paterson was trying to help out because he was supposedly being “ripped off” by another contractor. That neighbor tried to not pay his $4, 000 balance owed for legitimate Air Conditioning replacement work, that was accepted and building department inspected work. That neighbor, who is not a “Property Investor”, named Edward Cashel tried to refinance his house and his bank required Mr. Paterson to sign off that Paterson Project Management was fully paid. But they were not. So until the bills where paid, Mr. Paterson rightfully so, refused to sign that letter. I have personally seen a copy of this contract and all payments.
I have since found out that Mr. Cashel filed complaints with a Detective Mauro at the City Building Department against the previous contractor he hired before Mr. Paterson tried to help, and also filed complaints at the City on the 3rd contractor involved after Mr. Paterson refused to do any more work for him. There were never any complaints filled to the City about Paterson Project Management, but Mr. Cashel did write about 10 or more complaints online in every website he could find in 2011. He was angry that he was forced to pay his bill in full it seemed.
Some of this information I found out from the City records, and some from Mr. Paterson’s account on Houzz.com, and some from Detective Mauro. www.Houzz.com has a detailed and positive toned response by Mr. Paterson. I have also been presented with a copy of an e-mail from Mr. Cashel apologizing to Mr. Paterson for his behavior at the time when Mr. Paterson was asking for this final $4, 000 payment. That e-mail alone vindicates Mr. Paterson of any false accusations.

The second complaint, which was in response to the first by Mr. Cashel, was by KFish. This one seamed even more “fishy”. This attacked Mr. Paterson and his Wife Yissella Paterson personally. KFish was actually posted by Alex Shilman, the ex-fiancé of Yissella Paterson. I found this out by contacting K. Fish who knew nothing about this post. He has since filed charges against Alex Shilman for identity theft. Alex Shilman was hiding behind K. Fish’s name and was also trying to spread lies about his ex-fiancé. Mr. Paterson has actually never met either of them and I can find no record of him ever being in business with either of them as claimed. This post just seamed to be a sad jealous rage.

I was employed by Mr. Paterson's potential development partners to investigate all this because they wanted to know everything about him and his company. It is sad that anybody can spread lies over the Internet. I have since given my employers a raving review of Paterson Project Management and Mr. Terry Paterson. These two negative post’s where the only negative activity I could find online or in person.

I one hundred percent disagree! I know Terry since he came to Ft. Lauderdale late 1998 with nothing but his enthusiasm and a suitcase. His dedication and hard work earned him the trust and respect of many, including myself, while he built his empire step by step. There is a reason that he is winning the city of Ft. Lauderdale's awards for best built homes year after year and is now in charge of one of the largest high quality developments in town. The work he is doing for us is in the double digit millions. His workers show up on time, all the time, and Jessica has magic in her hands obtaining permits in record time. But maybe that has to do with us paying our bills in the same timely fashion he delivers his work, rather than giving Jessica a run for her permits by asking for change orders during the job? But wouldn't worry about hiring him too much - he is booked up for the next three years.
