LA Fitness International canceling membership

Been trying for a month to cancel membership, which, oddly, one can not do by phone or walking into a local fitness centre (Note: I had no problems writing a check and signing up by walking in). As a member of the military who recently received orders, I went to my "club" in Doral, FL as instructed, picked up cancellation form, and was told to mail it to LA Fitness HQ. Desk attendant said that the postmarked date on envelope would be used to prorate. A month later, my membership fee is still being withdrawn from my account. I called LA Fitness HQ, explained process I'd been through, then received a "we see no signs of cancellation" response and an "if it were me I would have..." lecture that included instructions on walking in to a nearby club, asking for a cancellation form, ensuring the desk attendant makes a note on your account (confirm with your own eyes), fill out paper form, and send it via certified mail to LA Fitness HQ followed by weekly phone call check-ups. What a work-out. While talking to LA Fitness HQ Phone Witch, I was trying to perfect a new stretch where I reached through the phone and gripped her belligerent neck. My advice: do push-ups or join the military if you want to get fit; otherwise, walk into LA Fitness, bend over, and touch your toes.

LA Fitness International scammed on personal training

My wife joined and was given a hard sell billed as an orientation to sign up for personal training. This turned out to be an automatically renewing contract which would cost $ 5000 / yr.

She did not actually read it and stupidly signed!

Once your name is on the dotted line, you are dead! They refuse to let you off except by the contract terms which are for 50 % of the remaining cost. At 50 % of the first 6 months (which I calculated as $ 1250), this is pretty expensive, but LA Fitness figures this at $ 1550 since the first month somehow doesn't count as remaining. This has so far cost me $ 1700 without actually having a personal training session. (The wife tried to schedule one, but the trainers are never available - and if you don't get them in, you also pay.)

Same problem in quitting my membership. Sent written notice by certified mail (as they require) and still they try to charge my credit card for monthly dues.

No toll free number - no customer service. Their marketing philosophy seems to be to offer a low price and "month to month" contract and then scam you for anything they can.

If you join just say NO, NO, NO, and don't bother to take any "orientations". If you quit, cancel whatever credit card you gave them immediately and be sure to send the cancel notice by registered mail as they will be sure to "lose" it. If someone says they will "take care of cancelling" over the phone, tape it because I can assure you they are lying.

Even though you can never contact them by phone without being on hold for an hour, be prepared to get twice daily phone calls from them on your cell.

Wow, I'm sorry you live in WA, and the best we could offer you are a bunch of shady used car salesmen. I'm a WGM in CT and don't have half the issues with my member's that you mentioned. Yes the training is bunk and I recommend all my memebers to take the assesment but not buy a package because those are contracts! I apologize that the GM in your club is concerned with keeping their monthly EFT up that they are willing to screw someone over a cancellation. Is the 30 a month off of a couple hundred thousand really going to hurt their end of month bonus check?! No it isn't, I sincerely apologize on behalf of my company and wish I could offer some help but cannot. Not all clubs are scams though, some of us care and actually have personal relationships with our members. Reading things like this really make me step it up for our members out here. I'm truly sorry for the hardship we may have caused.

I am a member of LA Fitness located at 35009 Enchanted Parkway South, Federal Way 98003 - telephone number: 253-838-5900. This business closed their pool on 5/1/08 due to unsafe water levels. They reopened the pool on 5/5/08, even though the pool water problem still existed. They allowed lap swimming and over 25 people were in the water for the water...

LA Fitness International they scammed me

An LA Fitness was opening near my workplace, so I decided to sign up and take advantage of early registration rates. I signed the paperwork and paid them an early registration fee.

The club did not open on time. It eventually opened, well over a year late. In that year, my company decided to move. Since I knew it was moving, but did not know where, and the club would no longer be convenient, I attempted to call to cancel my early registration.

I was told I would be able to cancel at any time with no penalty, so why not keep it in case my company moved near another branch? This seemed fair, so I stupidly kept it.

We moved. Not near an LA Fitness. And the last thing on my mind at the time was my fitness membership I had registered for *over a year ago*. Then several months later, I got a call. They were having trouble billing me.

What? Why is LA Fitness *billing me*. I never set foot inside an LA Fitness. My membership was never activated. Oh, they explained, after the club opens, they activate your membership and bill you, whether you've ever been to a club or not. If I want to cancel it, I'd have to write in and pay for what I'd already accrued. I refused. The phone guy told me he'd talk to his manager who would call me back. No one called me.

Several months later, it's now 2008. (I signed up in January 2006!) They call me. They're having trouble billing. I patiently explain what I already told them before. They tell me that I can cancel, but I'll have to pay a 30 day fee. I tell them no. The guy tells me my membership agreement requires me to. I ask to look at a copy and he says it is on the website. (If it is, it is hidden in their member’s only area. Which I don't have access to because I never signed up for any of this.) I call him back and get an answering machine.

A few minutes later another guy calls, this one from the specific branch I had joined. I explain the same thing. He gives me the number of the manager of Membership Services, Tim. Thanks. I call Tim. Tim explains that they *are* charging me already and that I did use the club in November. I have never been there. And the date he gave was when I was on the east coast. I check my credit card. [censored], somehow they found a way to charge me when they couldn't before, and I hadn't caught it.

I'm writing to their headquarters right now, but as it's currently looking, it seems that they will now have taken hundreds of dollars of my money. And I have still never even set foot inside an LA Fitness.

NEVER sign up for personal training sessions at LA Fitness. LA fitness employees mis-represent the agreement, do not show you anything that you are signing, and when you call to inquire about charges to your account and ask that it is discontinued the company continues to charge your credit card until you agree to buy them out for the contract you were tricked into signing.

I sent the membership cancellation form as instructed via certified mail. LA Fitness claimed they never received it. So after ripping their butts and 3 phone numbers later I got membership cancelled over the phone. Here's the number to do so:
[protected]. They make it very difficult so they can keep taking your money.

this facility, unlike others in the general area, is worn out, filthy and disgusting. it needs a complete update. the equipment is always out of order, tired, chipped, frayed, etc. they need to close this for a week and do a complete update.

in fairness to the managers, the members are slobs too (perhaps in part because of the sloppy condition of the place).

I complied to the letter with instructions in my contract for cancelling membership...but I did not send the letter by certified mail. After about two months, I began receiving collection calls from LA Fitness. They "never received" my letter and want to collect additional months' membership fees that I do not owe. I'm sending another letter...this time to the CEO, but I should not have to go through all of this hassle.

I honestly wish it were possible to give this gym a lower rated review. I signed up with the gym a few months ago and with signing up you receive a free personal training assessment. After the personal training assessment, I was pressured into signing up for additional sessions in order to better learn the machines. I asked multiple times if it would be able to cancel these sessions because I have had multiple knee surgeries and have chronic pain. I was told by the 2 "Master Trainers" that I signed with that I could cancel at anytime without a problem as long as I called in before the first of the month. Well, fast forward 3 months, and I'm calling in to cancel because I am in so much pain after these sessions that I have trouble walking for multiple days after. I'm told that the only way to get out of this contract is to pay $900 or obtain a note from a physician stating that I have a disability from the front desk associate. I called corporate customer service twice. The first time I was hung up on and the second time I spoke with a "supervisor" who was supposed to call me back. I never received a callback and called my local gym to get the hours that the Operations Manager would be in. I go in 3 times within this time frame and not only am I informed that the man who I signed up with is no longer with the company, I am also told each time that he is not at the facility, The only times this manager is there are Monday through Friday 9-5. Because I have a job, I had to take off from work to come to the facility 3 times. Even though I was lied to by the people selling me the personal training, I was still told the only way out of contract was to obtain a doctor's note. I did and took it to them. They said that they would scan it in and get it cancelled next day. I get a call later stating that they are unable to do this and I need to mail this cancellation to the corporate office. I have just now managed to get this training cancelled and it took going all the way up the ranks to their Regional VP. The absolute worst customer service that I've ever experienced.

Although I live in Arizona, we too have facilities that are six years old and less. One property is in complete shambles and mimics the conditions you outline. It is no wonder they (LA Fitness) don't post a corporate customer service address or number.

LA Fitness International cancelation scam

Read similar complaints on this site about their cancelation scam. They billed me for 6 months after I sent cancelation form, and battled with the credit card company because they continued to pay them each month. Their "headquarters" in Toms River would tell me they never received my cancelation form, and because I could not prove I mailed it, they would not refund me for their continued billing. Then when I personally brought the cancelation form to the gym, they still did not cancel and again the Toms River "headquarters" said I had to mail it to them, not give it to my gym (even though they did receive it in Toms River, but said it was not submitted properly). I was so mad at how they treated me and their smirky customer reps that I contemplated standing in the parking lot giving out fliers about their shady tactics. They did finally refund me for 3 months, but would not refund for the entire time. So warning; MAIL YOUR CANCELATION FORM CERTIFIED MAIL!

LA Fitness International bait and switch!

10 days ago I joined LA fitness. Part of the deal for my family membership was that my 14 year old twin boys would be able to come basketball every other weekend. Sure enough today when I arrive at the gym, with my boys, I was told they would not be able to play ball. I canceled my membership and the start-up fee of $237 I disputed the charges with American Express. American Express is on my side but this company has deceptive trade practices.

I joined La fitness when I was approached by a young man outside of Ross Store at Sugarland Tx. Part of the deal was that my 2 under age children (11 & 13) had part on that membership until they reach the age 18. I went to La fitness with my children for a month until they stopped my children to entering the club. When a asked to speak with a manager they told me it was ridiculous from my side to believe they are going to let anyone to work out for free. It is outrageous that LaFitness walk away with that dirty practices in order to sell their dirty memberships. They did not even provided me a copy from the paper I signed. E.M.

LA Fitness International fee of $1,000!

My father opened a membership with LA. After he came home the same day we decided that the membership was not something we needed at that moment. The sales people at the gym convinced him to sign a 3-year contract. My father went back the next day and canceled the membership. A week later my husband and I decided to try out a gym membership and went to the same gym. When opening an account, I asked if my dads membership was canceled. The sales rep double checked and told us that the membership was canceled and that everything was good.

I few weeks later, we received a bill in the mail for 1,000 dollars for not canceling my fathers membership on time! When I confronted the sales rep the same day about this fee he said that there was nothing he could do. He also told me that my father never canceled the membership and that he doesn't remember talking to me about it. Although he did remember calling my father to ask him if he really wanted the membership closed.

After I found all this out, I tried to call LA to make a complaint. I was getting transfered to one voice mail recording after another and spent hours on the phone. I never got to talk to a person on the phone.

- if you are considering what gym to go to, DO NOT GO TO LA!

LA Fitness International personal training program is the worst!

I have utilized personal trainers for the last 6-7 years. When a new LA Fitness opened in my town with a beautiful facility I switched my membership and signed up for their personal training program. I had a great trainer the first few weeks and then one week I went in and was told she was sick, the next week I was told she stood me up and the third week the receptionist finally whispered to me that she had been fired because she did not know how to run their computer system. I complained to management and they set me up with another trainer. I had a couple of sessions with him but he was disinterested and just going through the motions and I could never get a regular schedule set up. Then I ask for a different trainer and approached one who had just started. Before I could schedule a session she was gone. I tried in vain to cancel but as you know from previous posts, you can never never get a straight answer and the customer service is the worst. I was told to write letters and then was told that was not enough because the letters were not certified. Then I got another session and was stood up. And it happened again. And bottom line is I had to pay for a year of training when they could not provide me with an early morning trainer and did not even care enough to follow up when they knew I was being stood up. ( about 6-7 times) They are the WORST!

I have nearly a year's worth of training sessions built up due to surgeries which prevented me from working out. When I returned to restart with my personal trainer she was no longer there and there was no one to train me early in the morning. So, I agreed to come in the evenings despite the inconveniene to say the least. I was provided with a great trainer. Apparently, he received a raise/promotion and I was told I needed to upgrade to keep him. Mind you I've paid for a year's worth of sessions. It's called extortion and its BS. Oh, sure there's some BS in the contract that they only agree to provide "a trainer." I'm so angry I could spit. This isn't over.

I live in San Diego, CA and had an active membership with Bally's Fitness until LA Fitness brought them out. The good thing was they didn't increase my original membership fee which i had with Bally's Fitness. My monthly fee is $19.99. For a while I had a good relationship with LA Fitness. None of the other staff ever bothered me which was good. I enjoyed pretty much just going to different LA Fitness Centers and having a nice quiet workout. One time, I was approached by a Personal Trainer at one of the centers. he gave me a 1 day complementary workout session. Then he tried to get me to get into one of their personal training program but he never pressured me or tried to con me in anyway to get it. So I left it at that. So for the next 3 months I have been going to 2 different LA Fitness Centers until the date of 7/15/12 when i went to another location here in San Diego. When I went in to that new location, one of their personal trainers had approached me while I was working out in one of the treadmills. We had a good conversation going and he appeared to really give me good advice and suggestions on how to work out properly. Then he gave me a complementary workout sessions with him and after it was over, he escorted me to his desk and offered me one of their Personal Trainers Program. Anyways, to make a long story short, I foolishly signed a contract which i later regretted because of financial situation. I tried to cancel and the other PT tried so hard to get me not to cancel. Then after working out, I returned to his little office and there was the main manger of the Center informing me I was too late to cancel. I had informed them i was not working very much and needed to cancel but she pretty much said there was nothing they could do. So here i am stuck with their PT agreement. They already took out $149 initiation fee plus the 1st months fee of $70. Now I am very angry and upset because i feel that personal trainer singled me out that day because of the color of my skin. I never once saw him approach another member at the center like a fellow Caucasian. Only me, a low-income Hispanic male. So pretty much I feel he conned me and there now nothing i can do. I do not hate LA Fitness, only the one which i was screwed over here in San Diego, CA

I wish I would have seen this sooner... I signed up at LA fitness and for persoanl training, they were very untruthfull and I cancelled both the member ship and personal training after 3 days.. in the last week they have managed to wipe out my checking account and owe me close to $1600 due to debiting my account over and over.. The managers at Akers Mill are very rude and customer service isnt much better, they should be kissing my feet for the amount of money the took from me... it could take up to 15 days to get my money back and thats not right.. this has to be a world record, 1600 dollars for a 4 day membership... I am still waiting for my money and have also contacted a law firm to see if there are any class action lawsuits against them in GA or how I can start one so this does not happen to anyone else... DO NOT JOIN LA FITNESS APRIL 14th 2011...

LA fitness have horrible training and it is almost impossible to cancel the membership! LETS FIGHT BACK!I WORK IN PR I GOT CONNECTIONS!

I joined LA fitness December 07 and had my free personal training session where that idiot of trainer told me to lose 10-20 pounds...Im 5'8" tall and 125 pounds...WTF!
I yelled at him and told him that I will never come back again, because one of my best friends nearly died because of an eating disorder.

So, the next day they called me to ask if I was alright and I said no and that I wanted to cancel the membership immediately. After trying to convince me to stay they finally agreed to send me the form. I never received anything, so I called them and they said I should go online. I did, but i didn't wanna set up an account so I called them again and the lady told me that the problem will be solved. they will call me back.
because I was graduating I didn't have the time to follow up with them.

when I canceled in MAY(!) my Swiss credit card they started calling me non stop. then I realized that they have been using my card all the time, because I was so stupid to slide my card once over there!Since then I was sent from one place to the other and apparently all their printers are out of order...sure, but they still can print out applications!

I'm working for a PR guy and he discovered in 1989 a major scam with the parking meters in LA where the city had to pay over 15 million dollars back to the people that got parking tickets at manipulated parking meters. He is very well connected and we are going to the media now. If you want to be part of it let me know.I'm trying to collect as many angry people as possible!

LA Fitness International contract impossible to cancel!

I recently attempted to cancel my LA Fitness training membership through Body of Change due to medical reasons. In October, I contracted Pneumonia, and due to some complications, my doctor has not released me to resume vigorous physical activity. On November 16th, I sent in a letter from my doctor with that information. When I called to make sure they had received it, they said they had, however they needed a letter saying that I would be out of commission for at least 45 days.

My doctor then submitted a letter stating that "due to Pneumonia and related illnesses" I would be unable to resume physical activity for greater than 60 days. I received a voiecemail from a rep stating that he had spoken to his management and that Pneumonia is not considered a reason they can cancel a membership as it is not a disability that lasts over 45 days (even though I had a letter from my doctor stating that this case WAS over 45 days) or an injury and they cannot cancel my membership.

As soon as I received that voicemail, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. In addition to the problems canceling the membership, my account was frozen in October when I contracted Pneumonia. In November, I was charged for my training membership. I have asked for a refund since my account was supposed to have been frozen until they received a letter from my doctor. I still have not received a refund.

I will not recommend ANYONE training at LA Fitness, and if my issues are not resolved by the BBB, I will be filing a lawsuit. I did everything they asked to be able to cancel my membership, and because someone (who is NOT a Medical Doctor) says that Pneumonia is not a reason to cancel the membership, they won't do it and I will continue to be charged for it. Be aware and do your research before joining this gym - I sure wish I had.

In response to the comment above...aka LOOOOOOOSSSSSSER,

I have to agree that sitting on the "coach" is absolutely correct when they are being persauded and ripped off for [censor] services.Unqualified trainers. When these so called loosers go to the gym (which is the reason u have a job) they go to see these "once over weight meat heads that have only one thing on there mind (which is being a major CREEP and try to pick up girls) WHICH IS THE REASON WHY I LOVE LADIES ONLY! Not only is what your doing is illeagal and u will loose your job. But these people are expected to get what they pay for...in result they get a TOOL that acts like he''s gods gift

SWEETHEART THE ONLY LOOOOOOOOOOSER HERE IS YOU...u show absolutely no respect or remorse for litterally STEALING FROM other people ...THE SCAM AT LA WILL NOT BE ON FOR LONG SO U BETTER START SENDING IN APPLICATIONS FOR MCDONALDS with your qualifications, IM SURE U WILL DO REAL WELL...IN THE MEAN WHILE U REALLY NEED TO FRESHEN UP ON UR VOCAB TRY TAKING A FIFTH GRADE REFRESHER COURSE U [censor]ING TOOL . I'm also really sure that you can pay the $400 a month that these people are talking about being scamed for. That's enough to lease a 2009 BMW. So think about that next time you hop into your [censor] car. Or just take a second to think, for once, before you open your idiotic meathead mouth and make fun of people who wanted to better themselves and found nothing but a bunch of underqualified scam artists.

I found out that i was scamed after a few days and have been trying to get out of the contract every since. They all stand around and talk to each other all day long. They all tell you different things one loves classes one thinks there a bandade. one loves wights one thinks cardeo only... Whenever you ask a questin they ack as if you are a both to them. I havent seeen any results following there plain and i go the the gym 5 days a week for 2 hoours a day. They told me i should sign up for more training. When i signed up. me and a friend did it together and they told us we could split the traing and they could train us at the same time. They never told us the traing only last 20 min. we never had time enof for any thing. im going to be telling everyone who will listen that the training is a scam i might put flyers in the bathrooms ate the gym.

I am going through the same problem right now. They made us believe they were doing us a favor. So now we have changed our phone number, address, and we are closing our bank account so they can no longer bill us for service we arent using. I recommend that everyone do this. I used to work for LA Fitness. They made us lie and scam to customers. If they did not have the money they would make us tell them to call parents aunts uncles friends anyone who could give us a credit card number so we can sign them up. We were told to prey upon elderly and " dumb " young people. I quit after 2 weeks i couldnt do this to people. So that is my plan of action for these a holes.

I currently am an employee at LA Fitness and completely agree with what has been said. I am currently studying exercise science and was a member of the gym to begin with. As i spoke to the trainer GM over the course of a few months he convinced me that this would be a great opportunity for me. Being that i had completed my training certification shortly before i decided to try the job out. It started off on a pretty good note as in the fact that they just hand you clients. What most people do not know is that the sales associates, now in the black shirts, simply work off a commision of the packages they sell. Due to this they say whatever they can, in most cases, to sell you that package. The trainers themselves (for example) $40 sessions, only recieve less than %20 of that amount which is now where near what the general payscale in the industry is. They are not payed an hourly salary, and do not get payed for overtime because they do not have to work a designated amount of hours per week. I am not trying t defend them in any way im simply stating that it is hard to care about a company that does not care about you. The salesmen dont care about the cliental, but trust me when i say that i, as well as many other trainers there, have received nothing but complaints about the business practices at this establishment. It puts one in an awkward position to motivate people when they know at the same time that they got ripped off. They training mgt also pushes their sales people with promises of fast promotions. This is not necessarily a lie due to the fact they theytend to juggle eployees around quite a bit. If one club is doing bad they will actually take a manager from a better club and send him in to fix things. This usually results in one of the sales associates being premoted to asst manager. What happens in many cases is that these kids with no mgt experience are then put in a position in which they are not ready for. This tends to throw a wrench in the whole training staff. They main point is that if you are truly interesed in fitness as far as losing weight, feeling better, or simply for health reasons it will take deication and time. Just because your buying personal training doesnt mean it will work, if you truly want results you have to do it for yourself and movtivate yourself. Now i am not saying dont seek out the care of a professional just that when you do make sure that you have some type of information as far as credentials (good certification) and is repuatable. i agree that its terrible how they manipulate people to buy overpriced training simply by making it a point to tell people that this is the only way they will reach their goals. Simply enough, do not join this pyramid scheme-esk of a business. Soon to be former LA Fitness emplyee

To cancel your La Fitness Pro Results personal training simply write a letter to the Better Business Bureau, and wait. Having an attorney send a letter to their corporate office also helps. These are almost always guaranteed to work if your problems are legitimately concerning (and referencing) trainer no shows, being switched trainers numerous time, harassment, stolen sessions, or misrepresentation at the point of sale (the time of signing up), such as being told you can cancel your contract at any time with no penalty or not being told effectively and directly that your contract will automatically convert to a month to month program upon completion, both of which I'll discuss next.

Very often La Fitness Pro Results sales reps will mislead you by telling you that you may cancel your personal training contract at any time with no penalty, which is completely false, (in some states) such cancellation usually requires a buy-out fee/penalty of 50% of the remaining balance and can total many hundreds of dollars. Some are in excess of a thousand. Also La Fitness Pro Results sales reps will mislead you about your contract automatically renewing. One of their 'gimmicks' in this regard is to use 'fast talk' and refer to this as your "Rate for Life Guarantee", when in effect all of their personal training contracts are set to automatically renew after their initial term (month to month).

In April 2008 (or approximate to that time) La Fitness mysteriously cancelled numerous contracts (and stopped billing) those which had entered automatic renewal, in which members checking and credit cards accounts were being billed for MANY months after their initial term, some for over a year, with payments ranging $100-$400 monthly. These contracts (payments/drafts) were mysteriously cancelled yet to my knowledge none of the funds were ever returned to the clients. This was done company wide, and was not mentioned to upper management or club management. This was a onetime thing. They did not cancel all auto-new contracts. It appears they only cancelled those who had been in auto renew for quite some time, as they let many in auto-renew at that time continue, and they still continue to automatically renew contracts on a daily basis. It may also be possible they've decided to let all contracts auto-renew, yet set a pre-determined amount of time they would allow such contracts to continue to be billed (for example an additional 12 months), then cancel future drafts at such a pre-set time.

It was suggested to the owners of the company and their corporate brass to provide a list of ALL clients not using their personal training. This was suggested as a way of increasing customer service. This was rejected. Why? They feared that if 'non using clients' (but who were still being billed/drafted) were contacted, they would immediately become aware they were still being drafted for a contract they thought was completed and not using, resulting in people contacting their banks in order to stop electronic billing, and this could cost the company millions! As a result, the only list provide to the club is a much shorter (safe) list of members whose accounts were active recently, but who have not used their personal training in the past 30 days. Anyone outside of that time frame is not put on that list due to the reasons I just explained.

I've been told directly by the owner and "La Fitness Top Brass" their fear is having an attorney/attorney general shut down their ability to auto-renew contracts which would cost the company millions of dollars yearly.

Also their clients have had thousands upon thousands of sessions stolen by trainers, resulting in trainers fraudulently getting paid at the loss of sessions to the clients, very often with neither the client nor La Fitness even being made aware, and sessions never being restored. La Fitness is aware of the loopholes which allow their clients sessions to be stolen, but have done little to correct the problem due to cost and inconvenience. Such solutions could include a finger print system, or a signature verification system, or simply locking down accounts which are not being used.

Also all La Fitness gym members need to be made aware that their billing information (while safely hidden) has the potential to used by the personal training department to bill ongoing services for personal training without the main members knowledge/authorized signature. This has also happened numerous times, to unwitting spouses and often by underage children, using their parents accounts even with the sales reps knowledge the child is underage and doesn’t have their parents approval. Sales reps have also fraudulently and intentionally charged accounts of members for personal training services without the members’ knowledge.

If you have had problems in these areas above, you may choose to contact an attorney, the Better Business Bureau and your State Attorney General.

This is the biggest rip-off ever. I joined and then wanted to cancel and it was like an act from God to do but I did it in 2005, This is 2008 almost 2009 and they are still calling me reporting me to credit bureau's and trying to collect something that I do not owe. I even filed a chapter 7 and included them in it and they are still calling me.
It is like a disease you can't get rid of.

I completely agree and wished I would of read this before now they are pro results and I have just found out I have breast cancer and still they will not cancel my training sessions until they get $900.00 which I do not have. I really dont need this headache now I have enough to worry about and I am shocked that they are doing this to me but after reading these I see I am not the only one. as for the one with no medical I agree with that because while I was going and meeting with my trainer he was awful and not helpful one bit and acted like he could not wait to get away from me, answering his phone leaving for a min after he put me on a machine. It is not worth that much or any amount of money. I would want to cancel just because of this.

Beware of Body of Change or Pro Results, whatever they are calling themselves now! It's the most horrible experience I have every had and I have waisted more money than I can think of. Service is terrible, and it's a sales trap. They work y0u over really hard convincing you to sign up by literaly slicing the original amount they wanted in half...so you feel like it's a real deal! Trainers have no education and don't care. I am in the process of breaking my contract and it has been going on for well over two months. I have recently moved out of my apartment back to my parents house and there is no club within 25 miles. So, as instructed by Body of Change I wrote a letter and included a copy of my driver's licence with my address and a letter from the DMV that the latest plate sticker is being sent to my new address. The rep didn't tell me that there was a 30 day cancelation period and ensured me that I wouldn't be charged again. I was charged this month and I called to follow up. I was told that a new driver's licence is not a valid proof of address change and the guy said "Well really, I have changed my licence address before to get a better insurance rate! you need something like a utility bill" Well...explain this to me...how in the world a driver's licence not a proof of address anymore?...if I'm moving in back with my parents...do you think I will have any UTILITY bills in my name?
It's a complete scam...PLEASE don't fall for it...TRUST ME...their trainers will not tell you anything different than what you can read in SHAPE or Women's Health magazine! Don't fall for their sales tactics of ..."We provide service...and you WILL see results" ...the only way you will see results from this program is by loosing weight because Body of Change is taking every last dime from you and you have no money for food or you are so stressed out that you simpy don't want to eat!

LA Fitness International failure to respond to a huge problem

Since nov 15, 2007, there has been little or no a/c or air circulation in the spin class room. The temperature in the room reaches nearly 100 degrees during the class. The instructor leaves the door open but blasts the music so loud that the other patrons in the main part of the gym cannot even hear their own ipods. Several times i've actually left the gym because I can't even hear the trainer talking to me without him yelling to be heard! I've called customer service 7 times in the past month and corporate 3 times and yet they claim there is nothing wrong & that an a/c company has already come to fix it! (yes, one day a company came to fix it and then the whole gym was like a sauna — so bad that they had to leave the front & side doors open to get air in!) doug sanchez, the supposed district manager, has done nothing to address the problem. Ben, the ops mgr, says that there is nothing wrong with the a/c. All we need is for someone to pass out from the intense heat in that room & then there'll be a lawsuit — then maybe they'll fix it! I hate this gym. However, there is a new gym opening up in the area soon & i'll definitely be transferring. You're right, once they got your money, they keep taking it... And screwing you in the meantime.

dear laura, has it dawned on you that a tiny room filled with 20-25 people undergoing accelerated body temperature/respiration might produce an inordinate amount of heat? in accordance with all of the known laws of the universe this is possible. secondly, you sweat more--big deal--don't you go into the sauna for the same? call it two birds with one stone. thirdly--WOW--7 times in one month eh? if your biggest problem in life is the temperature in your spin class, congratulations on the trophy marriage and your subsequent suburban blight.

p.s. music is supposed to be loud in the gym, perhaps you should join your fellow uber-sensitive overweight housewives at "curves" or "4 women only" and leave the rest of us to deal with life's nearly unberable circumstances.

p.p.s. just for fun, google "darfur" and see what pops up.

LA Fitness International hour of operation!

The gym used to be opened until midnight on the weekends, then 11pm, then 10pm, now 9pm! 10 was justifiable but 9pm is uncalled for. not to mention, they sold people on this gym and signed them up telling them the gym would be opened (with pool used as a selling point) by "next month" offering a small room with a few machines. they continued to do this for 1 full year until the gyms long overdue grand opening finally took place and the facilities were open (which by the way they have advertised "grand opening" for yet another year - without pool). the pool has finally been put in not more than a month ago. it took them 2 years of selling (lying) people on the pool until it was finally installed.

Plus, the trainers are a joke!

Ps - yet I still go...

Yes, I think it is total BS that they've done this... They did this in the Orange, CT location this year too... They started in November calling it "Winter Hours". They went from 11PM to 10PM during the week, and 10PM to 9PM on Friday... I"ve been a member for 4 years and this is the first time they've done this. I work out after I get my kids to bed.

I call once a month to complian, it take forever to get through... They even told me that they were going to restore the hours starting March 21st. Well, that has comen and gone...

LA Fitness International terrible service!

Not honoring my 7 day pass i received by mail because i was a member in [protected]? thats ridiculous, i just got back from the middle east a few months ago and a guy named Jeff who claimed to be the general manager, said that my 7 day pass is invalid because of the past membership. This 24 hour fitness in Katy, Texas may have discriminated me since i was the only Asian in the gym... What honor does LA Fitness Human Resources have? Hiring managers like that...

God bless the bigots of Texas! And not the blood of the coloreds who fell in the name of All Men Are Created Equal constitution...

This place is a health hazard. They have no cleaning service for the women's locker room. It is filthy! The benches at covered with stains from bare bottoms and the toilet area is gross. The sweat covered machines have not been wiped down in the year I have been going there. Avoid if you care for your health!

I am getting more disheartened with the Covington LA Fitness. I have been working with my trainer a few months, I do have to say she does call me if she is sick. The one thing she did do and I know I am at fault some is I had my iPod Nano and forgot to put it away before the training session, in the past she just took it from me an put it in the drawer at the trainer station. This week I forgot to get it back from her and now find that it is missing. The manager told me all of their employees are honest and would not steal, yeah right. I talked to my trainder and all she did was question if I gave it to her. I have learned my lesson but it makes me so angry that I was treated with no professionalizm at all, my trainer is who insisted taking it from me and unfortunately I got used to having her put it up so I would not have to run back in to the locker room. My desire to work out has been bad enough lately now it is near non-existant.

Warning -- They will be super nice to you to get you to sign on the line, but forget about such nice treatment after that. This establishment does not treat members as customers. Just a few complaints here... LAfit Trainer was a no-show for my training session at 11 am, even after he called to confirm the night before. As if my time is not important. He was in fact, at the club, he knew I was there (I saw someone tell him) and he was working with someone else -- but did not even bother to come over and let me know, or apologize for a double booking, or anything like that.I was waiting at the trainers desk for about 20 minutes as I was instructed to do. I finally left. He later called "on behalf of his apologies" and said he was working with someone else. I would never work with this person, the way I was treated, as if my time was not important. That was terrible. The club is continually too hot, poor circulation, especially group fitness room which is sometimes over capacity, Staff cooly maintains "it has been addressed" but nothing is solved. Poor control over hoodlums in the facility, especially the pool, which is suppose to be for "lap swim" but often it is full of teenagers engaging in horse-play and it is impossible to swim laps. It may be the youth of the staff, but there seems to be no organization in management, there is nobody to step up and take good leadership. When discussing the air conditioning, the answer a staff member actually gave was "It is all controlled at Corporate Offices... which is in another state. So here is a club with no accountability, no caring for it's members, only caring to sign the next member who comes through the door. I called once to address a billing problem and was asked to give 4 names of friends and family members so they could sign them up -- as in "How can we help you if you don't help us?" They were actually trying to sell to me when I was calling to discuss a percieved problem. There, you have been warned. However, if you need a facility close to home, this may be your only choice, and then you are stuck, like me. And if you want to close your membership, you do need to get a special paper and send it certified to Corporate, When my friend did just that, the woman at the post office said that she sends off about 15 of these a day. She even had the zip-code memorized for the certified mail entry. LA fitness Covington. You are broken! I wish someone would just fix you

I hate LA Fitness in Covington to... At 5:00 am in the morning they have two step mills and you can't even get on them because one of their own trainers is on them with his buddy for a full hour, that's BS, should be customers first... Way to hot in the gym with all the cardio equip upstairs and no fans... TV's suck because you can't change the channels or listen to them unless you bring your own am/fm radio, what a joke for a gym... I wish Miekos was still in business in Covington they were 10x the gym.

You are aloud to bring a friend but, you have to take a tour of the facility prior. no body is racist, and the fact that racism is still brought up in a country ran by a BLACK man, is rediculous. L.A. Fitness is a business! if you worked out there before, why would you get a 7 day trial? you already worked out there, so you know what they offer. Its called a trial period because, you want to try it. If you already tried it, then you known what hey have and know if you want to be apart of their facility. Everyone wants something for free but, no body would ever let a bunch of people work out in their facility if they owned a company like la fitness. Stop looking at lame assumptions and look at facts. LA Fitness is racist. I am white and my friend is black. I had a membership with them a few years ago when this racism happened. They told me that I could "bring a friend" to their gym with my pass. Well I brought my friend one day thinking that we both could work out there, the front desk people were rude to me saying "oh you don't have a guest pass" when looking at my friend! this was without even looking my membership up! they are a bunch of mean discriminatory greedy ###.

I was in the gym shooting hoops and these bullies, thugs came and tried to make me leave the the court because they wanted to play full court. I stayed there until I was done shooting and left. I will be canceling my membership tomorrow.

LA Fitness International personal training is a sham

After listening to the announcement to come for my free assessment in January this year - I find myself locked into a contract, which if anything has only increased my stress and not my muscle tone.

The freely available trainers are mostly inadequately trained. The well qualified trainers are offered to the customers that pay more (have a higher category membership). The more than $150 per month does not even guarantee an assessment, unless you request it! A complaint about the service will simply prompt a response by the manager, that this is your own doing, and that you are not complaining enough, or not doing anything enough. If you suggest that they cannot meet your needs - well it is still your fault. Customer complaints are simply viewed by them as a means to end their lucrative contract, and that it is still all your fault.

I decided to contact our corporate liason person in Atlanta, whose name I will spare, as he tended to agree with the complaints. However after coming back after 5 days, following a promised 1 day response, his promise that the manager would contact me immediately has never realized. What a surprize. To Todd, who I hear from our gym, simply sits at home answering emails, you need to attend to your customers. But, never fear Todd, they also advise that you will not contact me anyway.

How LA Fitness stays in business - surprizes me. We the public are waking up. It reminds me of another fitness club that went out of business - leaving a lot of people out of pocket and unfit. Where is management? Where is consumer affairs?

I have to tell you that it doesn't matter how much you pay for a personal trainer. Body of Change doesn't care about you once you sign up. I pay $350.00 per month, and there are never any "Certified Trainers" available, but there are plent of Sales people standing around. I would love to cancel my membership, but that would cost quite alot of money as well.

It really is a sham and there should be a way to be able to complain and see a result. Instead the managers basically told me it was too bad.
