Freelancer.com fraud complicity

Slavery +fraud complicity

Everything now it's more clear.
They don't do anything, about the verification, because they are scamming people.

They charge the client fee+ project amount (That they keep)
They charge employee fee+ slavery (2/6 users can't withdraw the money for a work they done)

I personally waiting to withdraw my money for a work i've done 3, 5 weeks ago.
The client hasn't verified his phone number: - why don't u call him?
The client is suspected for fraud: - why is his account active? Why you allow him to post more projects? How he paid my invoice with freelancer invoice system, if he's suspected for fraud?

How do you try to ask them to verify?, all you do is to sent them an email.
- do you call them?
- do you sent them an letter?

According to their "term & policy" - they can hold the money for 365 days

WOW! Seriously guys, are there really these much complaints about Freelancers.com and their alleged scam tactics? I recently joined this site as a freelancer, and I do find some of their schemes a bit unusual. Like about a month ago I was hired by an employer from Indonesia (or that was the flag shown in the employer's profile) to accept a project for $100, and when I did accept said project Freelancer.com immediately took away $10 from my paypal account! I haven't even started nor got a downpayment from the project and here is Freelancer.com taking away already their commission! And to make matters worse, I never heard from the employer anymore, I don't know if he/she backed away for some unpleasant reasons from the site or simply changed his/her mind. But whatever maybe the reason, in the end, I was charged $10 by Freelancer.com and got nothing at all! I wrote their support and someone there just gave me this explanation:

Hi,

Thank you for writing to Freelancer.com Support.

Once a project has been awarded and accepted by a freelancer, whether the project would be completed or not, you will be immediately charged for the project commission fee. Project commissions are non-refundable or cannot be canceled. This serves as the introduction fee for the employer and the freelancer.

The project fee will depend on your current membership and the winning bid on the project. You may refer to the information below regarding this.

Free $5 USD or 10%, whichever is greater
Basic $5 USD or 10%, whichever is greater
Plus $5 USD or 10%, whichever is greater
Standard $4 USD or 5%, whichever is greater
Premium $3 USD or 3%, whichever is greater

We recommend that you upgrade your membership to Standard or Premium so that you will pay less for the project fee. Just to go Profiles, select 'Upgrade Membership' and then click 'Uprade' to upgrade your account.

Should you need any further assistance, feel free to contact us again.

Sincerely,
Aidan M.
Freelancer.com Support

I really find it weird that one would be charged for a transaction that wasn't even started, not to mention completed.
And it's really strange that if you accidentally clicked on anything in the site that charges you for a certain fee, the process is so instantaneous that you wouldn't have any chance at all to cancel it. Like when I accidentally clicked on an upgrade, before /i could even correct my mistake, I was charged $50 to have my name on the top of the list in a certain category of services, which wasn't even permanent and would expire after only a short period of time. And those exams? god knows how much they charge for each one of them supposedly to make yourself more qualified to prospective clients.

I can name a few more cases where their practice is really questionable, but I'd stop from here for now.

Freelancer.com - cheating harassment

They are so good in charging money but when the time come for withdrawal they give lame execuses. I worked on 8 projects. When i gave a withdraw request after 15 days they cancelled it without even telling me. When i asked them about it they said the employer is not following the guidelines of freelancer.com. What is my fault if the employer is not...

Freelancer.com No product for our money and harassment by company

We posted a project on Freelancer.com for a website, there was several bids for the project ranging in price from £200 to £500 we chose someone who it appeared had a impeccable reputation on this site. He said that he had done this exact same project before and had the script for it and would release the script upon a milestone payment of £150 and a total price once we were happy with it of £300

Obviously to cover himself, he stated that 10 days delivery for the project. We quoted 15 days to our client for the project to be completed so allowing 50% extra on his time scales,
Once the money was paid we were provided a WordPress Plugin which is not what we asked for and in any event didn’t work at all anyway. In relation to the plugin what it is capable of if it actually worked is already available for free in Wordpress via tools/import which we have used on many occasions.

We went back to this person and told him we were not happy with what was provided and in no way matches what we asked for, he then tried to get more money out of us in which we said no. 25 days had passed with still no product supplied. So we contacted him, we then got the ### promise it will be done in 7 days, thus pushing it to 32 days. On day 31 our client contacts us and tells us either do the job or lose it. Our first ever complaint, we completed the project ourselves taking a total time of 3 hour to complete. (Not bad hey) = to £100 per hour.

We then contacted the person saying that we no longer needed his services as it was clear that we were not going to get the product from him and now after doing the job ourselves no longer needed it, we decided to open a dispute on www.freelancer.com this is where the fun starts.

Firstly the dispute system does not work, and although freelancer.com had taken the money from your PayPal account they want nothing to do with helping you get a refund based on failure to supply, however they still wanted there monthly charges relating to having an account. They suggested we contact the person through there system which we did and no response was forthcoming. After 35 days had elapsed and anyone will know this who has done a PayPal dispute that you have a limited time to dispute a transaction. I believe its 40 days or maybe 45 however,

We entered a dispute relating to the transaction and then we started receiving a mass of emails from freelancer.com (14 emails in 24 hours) we replied by informing them to close the account as we have no intentions of ever using their useless website again. they limited our account saying that its for security reasons and we need to verify ourselves. On going into the account it asks why you have done a Chargeback. (I would of thought that it was obvious why) we replied to this stating our reasons (No product supplied) or as described. We then go back to the account and this is what is stated as an answer.

“Reason: To lift the limitation on your account, please contact PayPal to cancel the dispute you have filed. Be informed that the funds are set on hold by PayPal and your account has been automatically limited by the system due to chargeback claim you have filed. As an extension of service, an email has been sent to your freelancer asking them to contact you. Please note that Employers are under no obligation to provide advance payments to freelancers. Since the funds has been properly allocated as payment to your freelancer, it should be reinstated on your account. The proper way to get the funds back is if your freelancer willingly returns them back to you as they were already released. Kindly contact the freelancer and discuss the issue in a professional manner. It is sincerely hoped that both parties will come up with an agreement that will be mutually agreeable to each other. Once done, please update the verification center accordingly for confirmation”.

As you can see they want us to cancel our Chargeback, which we have no intention of doing; however this company refuses to close the account and remove our PayPal from the system, as they want to keep taking our Money. We have told them clearly that any money being taken from our PayPal Account will be treated as fraud and should we not get a refund via PayPal we will close our PayPal Account and go to our bank to get a refund, as the payment was made by credit card the bank is obligated to refund the amount.
Receiving 14 emails demanding us to do something we consider is harassment and totally unacceptable.

I would suggest very strongly that you avoid any and all interaction with www.freelancer.com unless you want to lose your money and get harassed by Freelancer.com.

freelancer took a so-called milestone payment on the same day at the same time two times from our paypal account and claims to have paid this money to the freelancer even though the freelancer only asked for one milestone payment. As a result of demanding a refund of the money that was taken twice freelancer put a limitation on our account whatever that means. Freelancer claims that they have the right to take any kind of money from your paypal account to pay freelancers which gives them effective control over your paypal account. That in itself is a fraud that paypal's robots should prevent but don't. All payments should be authorised in writing. Sadly the freelancer concerned who according to www.freelancer.com, was paid the twice 'stolen' money claims he has received not a penny from www.freelancer.com. So freelancer is stacking up with cash from millions of projects. Could be the biggest ponzi scheme of all times. Dont wait till it blows up...

Freelancer.com scam/crooks

Freelancer.com is dangerous. I recently won a project, completed the project, was paid, left review, all was good. Then all of a sudden, freelancer suspends my account, tells me there was something suspicious with the transaction, refunds the money to the employer. After that was "sorted" - ie the employer still kept his money and we are never to do business together on the site again - I decided enough was enough with freelancer and that I would withdraw funds that I had deposited to move on. I tried once - freelancer enforces a wait period before withdrawing to paypal - and when I checked the status a day or so later, the transaction was no longer in pending status and looked as if it had never been there. So I tried again, same thing. Apparently freelancer only lets you withdraw funds that you earned on the site - what?! I am hoping paypal will let me open a dispute against this as I see it as the only way I might get my funds back.

Stay clear - this is a bad company. Try odesk if you are looking for online freelancers/virtual works - much safer, never have had a problem. Freelancer is a nightmare for everyone involved other than freelancer.com.

I needed a website built and I posted it on Freelancer seeking bids. I received many offers, The one I wanted to use asked for more time to provide a proposal and I granted it. He never got back to me and the bidding closed without my making an award. On Thursday out of the clear blue I got an email from Freelancer recommending I hire a named freelancer. I ended up re-listing the project for bids and they came in right and left. After some discussions, I selected one, worked out the details and made the award for $2, 000.00 with established milestones. Using PayPal, I deposited $2, 000.00 into my account on Freelancer. When I tried to escrow $400.00 to set up the first milestone payment, I found that my $2, 000.00 had been frozen by Freelancer. I checked my PayPal account and found that they had in fact paid my $2, 000.00 deposit to Freelancer and withdrawn $2, 047.39 from my bank account. I tried to withdraw my money from Freelancer and was informed I needed to pass a security process. I provided the requested information and then the system locked up on me. I was unable to get any information from Freelancer and was left with no option but to dispute the charge with PayPal to recover my money. Almost instantly, Freelancer sent me a notice advising they would not be able to refund my money unless I closed my PayPal dispute against them. Like I fool. I closed the dispute. I contacted Freelancer again and asked for my refund. I was informed the refund could not be made as they needed further information. I asked what they needed and was told to wait for the correct Freelancer department to contact me. I asked when they would contact me and was told that the correct department would need to provide me with that information. After several hours of going around in circles and getting nowhere, I tried to file another claim with PayPal. The written response was that due to the fact that I had settled my claim with Freelancer, I could not re-file with PayPal. I then contacted PayPal by phone and was put in touch with one of their fraud investigators. I was informed the matter would be cleared up in 12 - 24 hours. It's now been 15 hours and I'm still waiting.

So, as it stands right now. Freelancer has stolen $2.047.39 from me. My website is not being built. The nice freelancer I was contracting with to do the job is sitting on his hands with empty pockets.

What really gets me is I can't even contact anyone at Freelancer to discuss the situation and seek a solution. All I can get is some one at Freelancer texting messages to me that I need to wait to be contacted by the correct department.

As far as I'm concerned, Freelancer is out to cheat both the people paying money to get a job done as well as the individual wanting to do the work.

I'm not about to let these Freelancer steal over $2, 000.00 from me when all I was doing was using their "service" to get a project I needed done.

I'm very proud of the fact that I've been able to write this without using some of the words and names I wanted so badly to use.

I have both the time and the resources to obtain justice and prevent Freelancer from cheating me out of over $2, 000.00 they have taken from my bank account without out providing ANYTHING in return.

I hope others can learn from my mistake and avoid falling into Freelancer's trap and having their money stolen.

My name is John V McLure, I live in Athens, Texas, My email address is jmclure@aol.com. My phone number is [protected]. Oh, and my wife is an attorney. :)

Thanks for listening. Contact me if you need any information or would like to join me in stopping this abuse.

Freelancer.com just don't have anything to do with them

Absolutely ghastly. Just don't have anything to do with them. You have been warned! Whatever you do, don't sign up with them or give them your email, they won't leave you alone and you can't unsubscribe (they ignore it when you try). Then they will keep sending you emails asking for feedback, even when you've given them feedback. Infuriating, frustrating to be treated like a number.

Freelancer.com project fees are non-refundable whether a project is complete, incomplete, canceled or re voked

I've been charged for 100$ just for winning a project where a client never shown, there were no any warnings or me being agree with this condition, sure they do have agreement according to which they actions are legit, but it just unfair! Also they said that they could help to resolve any issue but in fact they stay aside saying that they just introduce you to employer and they don't care what happened next, it's their's official policy:

Project fees are non-refundable whether a project is complete, incomplete, cancelled or re voked. This serves as the introduction fee for the employer and the freelancer. It is likewise for the purpose that contact details would be allowed to be given by both parties immediately. Our role as an online venue is already fulfilled when the the employer and freelancer meet, agree on and work on a project.

Note that Freelancer.com is an online venue for employers and freelancers to meet and work on a project. What will happen upon acceptance of the project is beyond our scope of support neither do we get involved in the transactions and interactions between employers and freelancers. It's our part to introduce the two parties but the project's success still lies only between the employer and freelancer.

I'm facing the same problem. This is very sad. I'm a freelancer, I won a bid on a project $250, and they deduct fees of $25USD something. The employer hasn't given me any works and I have a feeling that he is not going to pay me at all. It was very hard to win a bid since I'm a new freelancer with no reviews rating, I try to bid with the minimum amount so that I would get an opportunity to work on projects and build up my review rating.

Feelancer.com want freelancers to pay for subscription fees of $49 per month and they don't want to take any responsibility for the outcome of the projects.

The employer ran away and now I have a $25USD debt in my account :(
I also paid a lot of money trying to get their certificate to prove that I have the skills needed, spent over USD$30 something :(
I spoke to the support person from feelancer.com but they're not going to refund me at all.

Freelancer.com I know the kind of scam they are working on

The experiences here are of 'workers' ... people who have done some work, and expect to be paid. They lose their money for fraudelent reasons. Yes, their hard-earned money.

But what do you say to users who want to have some work to be done? What, when they deposit some fund, then suddenly their project get cancelled or something, , , again for some fraudulent reason. They dont even bother to tell you!

If you want your money back ... damn!

Mine is a story of such a case. My freelancer.com user id is jmathew256. I happen to be a 'Standard' user - this means, I am charged 24.95 US dollar per month to have my projects executed.

After I deposit my money, and even 'complete' a project. The money is still there in my account.

Result? The freelancer I was working, who has knowledge of the confidential information of the project (as with any project) is now threatening me to publish them if I do not release the funds.

I find, all of a sudden my account is 'limited' - and unable to transfer or withdraw my funds.

You guys can test it yourself:
1. Open a freelancer.com account
2. Deposit some money
3. Try withdrawing back.
Just try, and you'll come across tons of reasons why you cannot have your money back.

Now I know the kind of scam they are working on.

Freelancer.com they do not care about the ultimate end user: the freelancer

They do not care about the ultimate end user: the freelancer. They charge both sides (project creators and project bidders) and will do whatever it takes to keep the money they squeeze out of both ends.

Example #1: If you put in a bid and are accepted, then do work and are not paid (partially your fault for not creating milestones and handing in the 100% completed work before being paid, sure..), they do not give a hoot whether you get paid. Even when you complain to them about an employer not paying you, they gladly place the blame back on you and don't lift a finger to punish the thief either in the form of a negative review (you aren't allowed to leave one if the project is never marked as "complete") or any other punitive measure.

Example #2: If you accept a project that is set to earn you, say, $500 dollars, 10% is instantly taken from you. $50. Say the employer never gets back to you, follows up, or anything even results (no work is even done, etc), you CANNOT get back your $50. You can plead them, but your pleas will surely fall on deaf ears and automatons towing the company line about the necessity of following their high and mighty "policies" .. USE THESE GUYS AS A LAST RESORT, or if you do use them, TREAD CAREFULLY!

Freelancer.com there are lot better sites - biggest is not best

I had a project that was transferred from vWorker to Freelancer without any notice. So I hae to re-leaen a new website - frustrating as this was my first project with vWorker. Fortunately I had escrowed money with vWorker, the coder did a great job and I then decided to put up a new (but similar project) on Freelancer. I paid $17 for various priviledges up front. I had only 5 bids for the new project none of whom had addressed to project details and none had the expereience. This compared to 16 who bid on vWorker all with experience. I invited my earlier worker to price the job, which he did but I could not then award the project as the site kept telling me it was not my project.
After 3 emails to support all I got were platitiudes. As I could not access my project to award it to my worker we went through a second site and the project is now underway (using Guru.com). I am still waiting for my money back and a response addressing the issue.
Farcical experience, website operation and support that will lose the Buyers and Coders that used to work with vWorker. There are lot better sites - biggest is not best!

Freelancer.com freelancer.com system failure, already paid for the project, they reversed the payment

I have been paid for a project at freelancer.com

Client selected me for asp.net application job total job price was $272.

Job had completed and I get paid by the client full payment.

But After few days later, when I log in to my account then see that they have Freelancer reversed all the money in my account to them.

Why they reversed my payment, This is clearly a fraud activity, I'm open to provide all the details, want to spread the Failed System Freelancer.com to whole, avoid freelancer as much as you can.

I want FBI to take action against Freelancer.com

Thanks

Freelancer.com be aware and don't ever use them

They allow you to signup, deposit funds and to do work, as soon as you try to remove funds from your account, they limit your account and say they are holding the funds until identity proof is given, I gave all the proof they asked for and they told me that they will deposit my funds back into "the employers account" who I worked for and got the money from in the first place, whose account is coincidentally limited also, meaning that I then have to wait for them to sort their account till I can get my money, this is ridiculous, they prevent you from getting your own money and should be investigated, they have no phone number on their website to contact them. They are collecting copy's of passports and utility bills as identity proof, Please do something about this website they are thieves, stealing and withholding peoples funds purposely and making it impossible to release your funds. Freelancer, Scam, Scam, Scam, be aware and don't ever use them!

Freelancer.com took my hard earned $190

Hi, My user name at freelancer.com is midget. I recently won a contest, its my first job on freelancer.com, I won and buyer paid me, but freelancer.com is not paying my money saying that contest holder is not verified. WTF, why the hell you allow him to post a job if he is not verified and the contest holder is introduced to me by freelancer.com so who is responsible for my lost money.
This was my first and worse experience in doing online job. I will complaint freelancer.com to ACCC. Freelancer.com is full of crooks, they are money hungry people and every one should avoid this site.

You can help others make similar complaints by defining what the ACCC is. I googled it and found a lot of irrelevant organizations.

Freelancer.com I will not recommending any freelancer for this site

I was working in Freelancer.com last 6 years.Last 6 month I saw their payment section is very worse. They have no protection for provider. What they do with buyer no idea. But many time I loose my money.I did work then get paid. After few days my money vanish.Freelancer saying buyer has account issue or they do something. So my money gone.I did work not get payment and freelancer get his commission. So where is protection.2nd ly most time if you go to dispute they 99% help buyer to win.

It is now very very bad site taking money from all.I am trying to leave this site and enter in elance.

I will not recommending any freelancer for this site.Even they don't have any phone no.They took my few money.

Freelancer.com stay away from freelancer.com, you'll find yourself mired in a nightmare

There's just two things wrong with freelancer.com. First, the front end of their accounting process is a bewildering maze of tabs and subtabs. Good luck figuring out what you actually paid for - they take the money out of your account as soon as you award a bid. Secondly, every freelancer I hired used their lack of English to weasel out of finishing their projects and there's no recourse to argue the fact. Stay away from freelancer.com, you'll find yourself mired in a nightmare.

Freelancer.com they are simply fraud

Not to work on this. They will keep your money and will waist your hard time.
One of my contractor buy a my service on freelance market. He bought the service and after the work complete he released the mile stone amount.

When i tried to withdraw it site told me status pending for 15 days, after 15 days nothing happen and no mail i got, i tried again and for my shock when i get nothing in a week.
I wrote to them them that why are you not releasing the money, they replied that you contractor is suspicious.

When i asked if you know that he is a fraud why you allow him to purchase and why you took his money, and if you got the money pay it to me. They replied they has they write as per their terms.

Suggested me to contact the contractor and asked him to solve his issue with freelancer.com

Never use this site, they are simply fraud.

I went through the same agony with these thieves. How can they hold up funds for 15 days and only let us know on the due date (the day they committed the transfer will be done) that I have to go through a verification process? After providing all the information, they again say that they need more info about the relationship with the buyer. Anything I wrote (I wrote 3 times), they would come back for more info. I can only provide so much information about anyone I do business with. I wouldn't bother who introduced him to freelancer.com or what he has done with freelancer.com. All I am worried about is doing business and getting my money for the services offered.

I hope authorities take note of this and take legal action against this organization
