Carfax The only reason this gets a 1 star rating is because I can't leave a ZERO

The only reason this gets a 1 star rating is because I can't leave a ZERO. The entire resolution process is a joke! Whoever came up with that process should be fired. You can't get a person live (Just as bad as Uber). You can't even get a person's email. You get a general response with a case number. Ten days went by before a response. From that point it's not gotten any better. Carfax (not their fault) listed my airbags as going off on a side swipe. That did not happen. Honest mistake by the officer on the scene. Carfax said I needed to get the report changed. Locating the officer on the scene was not easy and the accident was 2 years ago. I provided two official documents from my insurance company (which BTW lists the cost of a $2.00 rubber molding that had to be replaced). My point (to Carfax: The insurance companies list EVERY speck of work being done). Nothing listed about airbag replacement/repair. Carfax said NO. We went back and forth. With each email came an new case number and several days to get a response. Finally they said they will not change it but said they would add a notation stating that additional documentation states airbags did not go off. WHAT? Unacceptable! It needs to be CORRECT and this report is not correct. More delays and more new case numbers. Finally I had to call the Captain of the police department. He was most helpful. After including several pictures and documentation the Sheriff's office made the adjustment. They sent me the new document, which I forwarded to Carfax. This time...NO RESPONSE. Shocker. I followed up, only to get a response saying: We were not able to verify it with the Broward County Sheriff's Office. Are you kidding me? This issue is still not resolved. What is going on over there? With staffing issues at an all time low, one might think that a little common sense might help. Big failure here, Carfax. By all means, I would LOVE to hear from a supervisor/manager. Case [protected]

When I went to trade in my leased car and enter a new lease, the dealer pulled a Carfax report that showed moderate damage to the front, passenger side, and rear of the vehicle. I was shocked as they showed me the report. The only damage to the vehicle was a small scratch (about an inch) on the passenger side door. It had never had any repairs (only regularly scheduled maintenance through *** as it never had any damage beyond the small scratch. I was surprised by the report, and the dealer offered me quite a bit less than KBB based on the Carfax, so I walked away and opened a case with Carfax to have the information reviewed. That was after asking if their service department had any way to test the paint to verify it was all factory original, which they said they could do but that it was best for me to contact Carfax while saying it could take months to be resolved through Carfax. The dealer called the next day and upped the price for the vehicle after seeing I'd filed a case for review with Carfax saying they were satisfied it would be resolved. Yesterday, I received an email from Carfax saying they "confirmed with the source" the damage report was correct, but, of course, they won't release who reported the data (which is completely illogical since anyone who actually has a repair done or even taken a car in for any type of service around the time of a report would know who reported damage). It's no longer my problem since the car was traded in, but the damage shown is completely inaccurate, and the car was in the garage while I was out of the country on holiday for a week at the time they say it was reported (with no one else having possible access to the vehicle). Would I have gotten more for the trade-in if the damage wasn't on the report? It's hard to say, but everything surrounding the incorrect Carfax report changed what would have been a very positive experience into one that was and still is somewhat distressing. I can only hope and imagine Carfax made a serious attempt at verifying the information. Regardless, their practices are clearly insufficient at determining when a false report is made of damage that never occurred, and it's unfair to the consumer to hide behind the policy of not identifying data sources as that would enable the consumer to assist in having completely inaccurate information removed that otherwise can have a significant impact on the financial outcome when trading in or selling a vehicle.

Carfax Carfax has many errors on my report including the date of my accident, the severity of the accident and the quantity of accidents

Carfax has many errors on my report including the date of my accident, the severity of the accident and the quantity of accidents. I have contacted Carfax through their website (as there is no other way to contact them) and I have received no response. This matter is time sensitive as I need to sell my car very soon and I am loosing out on value due to their inaccurate reporting. I have explained all the problems with my report and even stated that I will provide them with contact info for my insurance company who will show there is only one accident for my VIN and its a much less severe accident than shown on the report. P.S. I will be submitting a letter from my insurance company later today. My insurance company is *** and my local office phone number is (***. Ask for ***. ***,

I received the CarFax report you forwarded to me regarding your 2018 ***. There are numerous errors on this report:

1. In the 3 years we have had the 2018 *** insured, it has only been involved in one claim which was hitting an animal.
2. The dates listed on the CarFax report, 11/01 and 03/10 are not the date of our comprehensive claim, 10/12.
3. The claim payout for *** was $1666.78, after your $500 deductible, which is a minor payout in light of the expense of repairing vehicles.

Their error filled report is lowering the value of your vehicle and I'm so sorry for that. I hope you can get this corrected. Thank you.

In early December , my father-in-law, who had been the sole proprietor of a little car shop in Abilene (which, by the way, was an accredited member of the complaintsboard.com) for approximately forty years, was hospitalized with Covid-19. He passed away on Christmas Eve. After his death, we contacted Carfax to close his account. At the time, I was told that the invoice for the month of December would be the final amount due and his account would be closed. We mailed a check to Carfax for the December invoice amount and received no additional bills or correspondence from Carfax. I want to stress that both the mailing address and phone number are being checked on a regular basis. We received nothing related to the Carfax account until March, when we got a notice from *** stating that the account was past due and had been turned over to collections. I immediately contacted Carfax, but they would not explain why the account was still open and now in collections. I contacted the collections agent and learned Carfax had not processed our December payment and, despite what I had been told, had charged for January even though my father-in-law died in December. In addition, the collection agency had added collection fees. Despite my attempts through phone calls and email, no one was willing to work with me to get this matter resolved. We are gutted by the loss of my father-in-law and have been working diligently to close his accounts in a timely manner. Carfax is the only vendor that has failed to do what they said they would do and refuse to correct their error. I don't know why Carfax did not process the payment for the December invoice. I find it hard to believe that if my father-in-law were alive and his account were overdue, that Carfax wouldn't have contacted him by mail, phone or email (for each of which, Carfax has current contact information). I am appalled at how my father-in-law's account has been handled.

Carfax is notorious for poor customer service and hiding behind their disclaimer.

There are 7 problems with a Carfax report that Carfax does not disclose to their customers

A Carfax (or AutoCheck) report contains zero information about the CURRENT condition of a used vehicle. A history report is NOT an inspection and CANNOT be a substituted for a professional pre-purchase inspection.

Seven problems with a Carfax (or any Vehicle History report):

First, if the vehicle has been rebuilt (or salvaged) Carfax can only report this if the States’ DMV changed the vehicle’s title to “salvage, rebuilt, reconstructed, etc…” However, there are some states that do not indicate remarks on their titles such as “savage, rebuilt, true miles unknown, thief recovery, etc…” Also, if the insurance company does not notify the state that they have totaled a vehicle, the DMV will not change the title to ‘salvage, rebuilt, etc…” For example, a few years ago, State Farm was sued for not reporting over 30, 000 totaled vehicles to the States’ DMV. Since the titles were never changed to salvage, Carfax shows these vehicles to have "clean" titles. These totaled vehicles were sold to salvage yards, patched together, and re-sold to the public with the original titles and a "clean" Carfax report. It is not uncommon for a professional pre-purchase inspection to find accident and frame damage on a vehicle when the Carfax report shows “no reported Structural / Frame Damage" or "Accident / Damage".

Second, there is no database for body & frame shops to report accident damage and repairs, and not all insurance companies disclose or share their accident information. Carfax readily admits that there are thousands of accidents, each day, which will never show up on a Carfax report. Even if Carfax reports an accident, it cannot tell you the extent of the accident damage, or the quality of any repairs. Only a professional inspection by a Frame Specialist can give you that information.

Third, used car dealers know the limitations of a Carfax report. Some dealers knowingly buy vehicles with frame and accident damaged which have a "clean" Carfax report. They sell these damaged vehicles to unsuspecting buyers showing them the “clean” Carfax before they purchase. Bad vehicles are purchased every day because the seller/salesperson talked the buyer out of a professional inspection by showing a "clean" report. A vehicle history report cannot tell the buyer the current condition of the vehicle.

Forth, Carfax does not have any type of reporting mechanism with the tens of thousands independent repair facilities across the United States. Most of the Carfax reports have little or no repair information compared to the millions of automotive repairs performed each day. Even if Carfax reports a repair, it cannot tell you if the problem was fixed correctly or if there are additional mechanical/electrical problems with the vehicle.

Fifth, some States require an annual safety and/or emission testing. A safety or emission test is very limited in its testing and like a repair history, it cannot tell the buyer the current actual condition of all the vehicle’s components and systems.

Sixth, Carfax is a "History" report. There is a time lag between when a vehicle's title was changed to reflect a "negative" comment and when Carfax actually reports the title's new information. This time lag can allow a damaged vehicle to be re-sold before Carfax can report the negative information about the vehicle.

Seventh, search the web for complaints against Carfax. Many consumers have filed complaints and lawsuits that Carfax deceives their customers by concealing the limits of the information it collects. When confronted by irate customers, Carfax hides behind their disclaimer. (FYI, Carfax does not allow phoned in complaints).

The perception for a used car buyers is that Carfax offers comprehensive historical information about used vehicles, but the reality is, the information contained in a Carfax report is incomplete, limited, misleading, may not be current, and in some cases totally inaccurate. This difference between the used car buyers' perception, and reality, will cause them to make bad decisions based upon incomplete information provided by a Carfax report.

A used car buyer should question the cost effectiveness of a vehicle history report. A Carfax report sells for $34-$45 vs. a professional pre-purchase inspection for around $150. Pay the $34-$45, and you still don't know the current condition of any mechanical or electrical system, you still don’t know for sure if the vehicle was in accident(s) or the quality of any previous accident damage, and you still don't know if the vehicle was abused or well maintained. Only a physical pre-purchase inspection by an ASE Master Technician (for all mechanical & electrical systems) and a Frame Specialist (for body and frame problems) can determine the true condition before you buy.

The ONLY way to determine the TRUE condition before purchase is to have the vehicle professionally inspected by an ASE Certified Master Technician for mechanical & electrical problems and Frame Specialist for previous accident damages.

The #1 reason bad cars are purchased is the buyers' inability to determine the true condition of the vehicle before purchase. A history report cannot be used to determine the true current condition of the vehicle. Carfax Products reports are false.

Carfax issued a false report on my car that I bought on Ebay. The Carfax report was clean with no accidents reported. When I sold the car two years later, the Carfax report showed an accident with airbag deployment. As a result, I lost more than $2, 000 on the deal. Carfax denied any claim I had against them. Never trust a Carfax report.

Carfax unauthorized charges

Upon opening a credit card bill, I find 3 charges from three separate days apparently to CARFAX for 44.99 each. Under no circumstances did I click on 'Purchase Now' or input the credit card account number - I don't even know how they got it! This is larceny, plain and simple. I admit I had been looking on Ebay for used cars and I even remember (one time) reviewing a CARFAX report, which I understood to be a free report! But three charges of $44.99, no way!

Did you know that CARFAX doesn't have telephone support - that is, there is no phone number you can call to dispute charges like this?

I have bought a carfax report from the carfax. but I found finally I found the report provide the serious false information to me. the report show the car is a clean title car. but after I bought it and transfer the title. but the datas from the government the car is a salvage title. So I connect the carfax. and that company take 4 months to deal with the case. and finally they refused to responsible for this. I think it is very nonsense for that company! I pay the money to buy the information about the car, but they provide the wrong information to me.

I bought very expensive and rare vehicle with clean Carfax history and based on it I paid all the money for the car. A year later on the Carfax poped up an accident report... which decreases the value of the vehicle a lot... When I contacted them they told it is normal even more than a year later to report such a thing. You do your math and decide to relay on them or Not for your next car purchase. I will never pay even a penny for their ScamFax even if it's free it is worthless. They help thiefs and scammers to sell their vehicles.

I sold 2 vehicles to CARFAX that both had a "history". They did not ask if there was a history and could have cared less. Both of these vehicles had been in accidents and all information was noted through my insurance company, which is a MAJOR CREDIBLE COMPANY. When CARFAX sold the vehicles they had it listed as a "clean one owner", which it was a one owner, but NO MENTION of any damage or problems with the vehicles. One of these vehicles had a "bad" transmission and it was on the lot the NEXT DAY ! I KNOW the problems were listed from the body shops and the dealer ships where they were repaired/serviced. My advice is "BUYER BEWARE" just like any other dealership. They are out to make money and sell cars PERIOD.

Carfax CarFax false advertisement for unlimited use

Consumer be aware: CarFax advertises to all consumers for no discrimination unlimited number of carfaxes for personal use for one month for $29.99. This is a false advertisement since once you log in and you obtain a relatively fair number they deactivate your account. In my case, I subscribed on 3/20/08 for one month just to be notified by them on 3/23/08 that the previous months I had too many in their opinion (in reality 2 per day) while I was searching for an Audi for my wife and a Mercedes for my self. I’m not a commercial user, dealer, or corporate institution. There is nothing in CarFax’s agreement for a limit as the number of carfaxes obtained when someone purchases the unlimited number of carfaxes for personal use. This complaint intents to make other consumers aware of this situation and to bring a negative campaign against CarFax for false advertised services. So consumer be AWARE.
