An all-around horrible experience
Complaint Rating: 100 % with 2 votes
We purchased a car with Chase in 2002 and the payments were automatically deducted from our account for our 24 month loan which ended in 2004. In 2006 I suddenly started getting phone calls from bill collectors. They never deducted our final payment from our account and never called themselves to collect it. They called my home, called my parents and started mailing notices. We thought the car was paid off! And we were perfectly able to afford the final payment.

Now I am trying to sell the car and realize they never sent the title. So I called to get it and they said it would take 21 business days. A month came and went and when I called they said the title had been sent, but I never received it. Turns out they left off part of my address and now they are saying we have to wait until the title gets back to them and then they will re-send it.

This company is a total nightmare!

Ok the last part of that, Chase sending the title, you have reason to be upset about, and its certainly unfortunate that you have to be held accountable for human error (like all of us who live life on this planet). But, as in most auto debit set ups, which it should have stated when you signed up for the auto withdraw, that the auto debit would not withdraw on the last auto loan payment because the payoff amount may be different due to interest or any other charges accrued on your account. Now, mailed late notices are usually set on a system automated response to a delinquent account, so there is little reason for you to feel bombarded with late notices. Now the only reason I can think of for them calling your parents home would be if you provided their number as an alternate contact, and if the company (automated dialer that most call centers use) wasn’t able to reach you at your home they would use an alternate number provided. You should be thankful for Chase attempts to let you know your account was past due; a worse off company wouldn’t call and just let charges add on the account.
