I am located in the Greater Toronto Area, and the Money Marts here are running what feels like a shake down with Western Union transfers. If you receive anything over a 1000$ transfer every single Money Mart within a 30 minute driving radius of my home address did not have cash to give me and could only give me money orders! This is where the issue arises, are Money Marts not the ones suppose to have cash available for transactions as such? Western Union transfers are sent for a variety of reasons, especially emergency financial reasons for friends and family. It’s wrong for Money Mart to not have the cash in multiple locations, and then to give you money orders which then they would charge 4.5% to cash at their locations. So you give me the money order and then you charge me to get the money that should have been given in cash tender in the first place. When one is receiving a WesternUnion over 5K and they want to take 4.5% and drive to various locations and spend time and gas and sanity, sounds like a scam to take peoples money. Money Mart should have cash available in reasonable amounts. Especially if it was an early time of day.
The three locations that all said same thing:
5799 Highway 7 E
Markham ON L3P 1A5
Canada
B9-31 Tapscott Rd
Scarborough ON M1B 4Y7
Canada
5981 Steeles Ave E
Scarborough ON M1V 5P7
Canada
Desired outcome: Money Marts should not be allowed to not have cash available for larger Western Union transactions.
