This company has unethical hiring practices that I want to explain. If they can treat a potential employee the way I was treated, imagine how they handle their customers. They deal exclusively with senior citizens.

I was called on Thursday and asked if I wanted to interview for a customer service position at a credit union in Dearborn. The company found my resume on Monster. The position would be 9-5 Monday-Friday. The recruiter also told me that pay would be determined by experience. I accepted the interview because the hours seemed great and I'd love a job close to home.

I couldn't find any information about First Financial Insurance Group having a credit union. Their website is pretty amateur for a "major" financial institution. This should have been a red flag, but when you're unemployed, you kinda have to take the leads when you get them. I thought maybe they operated a credit union under a different name from First Financial.

On Friday, I drove all the way out to Carleton (like 25 miles, so a gallon of gas each way).

When I got to their office, I waited 15 minutes past our planned interview time, which should have been another alarm, but I figured, any interview is good experience. I was introduced to Matt... even though I was told on the phone I'd be interviewing with Robert Slagle. Hmm... weird. And another red flag.

After sitting down for a few minutes, he started asking me about my sales experience... I interrupted him and asked him "Can you tell me more about the position I'm interviewing for?!" and he then told me this was a strictly commission-based sales job.

WTF.

So whoever called me (found my resume on Monster), lied to me about a bogus position, got my hopes up about finally getting a job and wasted my time and money.

Needless to say, the interview ended quickly after that. I told Matt straight to his face I didn't appreciate their "bait and switch" tactic to get me in the door. He apologized, saying he had "no idea" I was told this was a customer service position and that he'd find out who called me. Yea right. I'm sure they do this all the time to desperate people excited to finally land an interview. If I wanted to be a salesperson, I wouldn't be unemployed. But I'm no salesperson.

All I could think about on the way home was how humiliated I was and how unprofessional First Financial Insurance Group is.

When you or a loved one are deciding which company can meet your insurance needs, I hope you find my experience as a sign of their complete lack of professionalism and tact.

I was also hired at First Financial Insurance Group in Carleton Michigan. I was hired in being told it would be 2 weeks of studying for the Michigan Insurance Exam (Paid). I had to foot the bill to pay for the training and initial test. After the 2 weeks of studying and PASSING the license exam, I was still NOT paid. I was told from the class trainer that the recruiter should NOT have told me I was going to be paid. I sat through 2 days of what was told to me would be "field training". The first day of "field training" was me sitting in a class room alone for hours waiting for the trainer to get back from a "meeting". Then the second day of "field training" was me sitting in the class listening to the trainer tell me why he is now divorced and "living it up". NOTHING pertaining to the job was talked about for the first 3 hours of class. I was the only one left in the class out of the 4 people hired. The woman who made it to the "field training" class, shared with me she was "sexually harassed" and never came back to work. So needless to say, I did not go back the next day either. 6 months later I have still not received my state license from the company(even though I passed the test), nor any kind of payment for my time. Hands down, the worst job experience I have ever had!

I also have been at FFIG for a year and I love it. I am making great money doing a career that I enjoy. I get to meet interesting people every day and help them make informed decisions that can literally change and improve the lifestyles and the future for them and their loved ones. We are team oriented and anyone will help you if you need it. No where in the sales industry have I found this kind of atmosphere and training that is offered here. Best of all, I go to sleep at night knowing I made a difference.

I have been working at FFIG now for almost a year and have been in the insurance industry since 2010. I found FFIG to be a breath of fresh air full of honest and truth. Far superior to my previous employer, serving the same market.

Allison was called from her resume on Monster for a sales position in the insurance industry (hence the name "First Financial Insurance Group"). How she thought that was a credit union I don't know. Allison was told she would be meeting with a member of the hiring team and was given the name of one member.
The fact that Allison drove thirty minutes for an interview without googling the company or checking out the company website shows a lack of planning.
Our only office is (currently) in Carleton, Michigan. However, our lead base is all over southern Michigan and Northwest Ohio. Perhaps Allison misunderstood, which seems likely from the fact that she believed the position was at a Credit Union.
