Banner hospital left mother unattended and on side of bed after transfer from ICU @ 2 am where she fell striking her head and fracturing her neck. Did not call family for approximately 6 hours post fall. Delay in treatment until they needed head wound sutured and ED doctor refused pending neurological evaluation and CT scan. No pain meds given even though patient writhing in pain Oxygen set at 2l even though orders for 4l. Incorrectly placed cervical collar twice.. No pain meds given for several hours. Nurses keep notes separate from offical chart and white out to make corrections. Nurse stated they didn't call family beccaus they don't have to. Mom never recognized u and passed away later that day. Banner stated full investigation but they never contacted family members for input. I have POA and trust POA to act on behalf of estate as well as my father who has Alzheimer's but Banner has policy that legal guardianship must be in place prior to discussions with me. This process is not legally necessary as POA and trust exist and is extremely burdensome, expensive and will require my father o be declared legally incapacitated, depriving him of what little dignity he has left. This experience with the BAnner Healthcare system in Sun City displayed a very non caring staff .

It was amazing reading this complaint. I had almost the exact same terrible experience. No room, left in hallway, no response to pain relief, "too busy", condescending/rude, no accountability, nurses don't put stuff in file...

If you have loved ones, please don't let them get into the Banner system. It is horrendous.

Then they bill Medicare for false/inflated charges.

Dear Sir/Madam, I was brought to Banner Sun City by ambulance for a suspected seizure on 5/23/22. I was rolled into the inner hallway and left there until I asked what was going on (approx. 1 hr). I was told they were working on it. Same thing after another hour. Another inquiry and they told me they were waiting from a call from Mesa before they could bring me to a room. (Please check on this!)

I saw other patients on stretchers with pillows.I asked the nurse if I could have one. She said in a very surly tone, "I don't have one on me!" I said, "I can see that. Can you find one? She then walked about 15 feet down the hall to the closet and brought it.

"Never brought to a treatment or observation room (they billed $1,805 for this lie)!

Finally brought to my room. It may have been 1.5 hours. My memory was fuzzy then. Given blood test/vitals. Asked for a pain reliever. No response.

By the way, not one time during my entire stay (approx 20 hrs) did a nurse or doctor ask me how I was doing! But they were very careful to get my Social Security info so they'd get paid.

Approx 2 hrs later a nurse came in stating she needed to draw more blood. I asked to see the results from the last one. She said she'd check and never came back. About an hr later a different nurse came to draw blood. Same thing, I asked for results from the last one. She left and came back. She went over the results and stated nothing was out of the ordinary. (They bill Medicare $1,396 for blood tests so I can see why they try to take a lot.)

Tried to call nurse with button. No response. Try again in approx 35 mins, no response, again, same thing, nurse came. I asked about the pain killer. "We're trying to get permission from a doctor." She left and never asked how I was doing.

Approx 2 hrs later a nurse came to take my vitals again. I asked if a dcoctor was coming. She said they'd try to get one.

Repeat this cycle of calling on button, no response for a long time, rude nurse acts like she's busy and you're bothering her, says she is checking on the pain reliever and doctor. No question as to how I'm doing! Never!

It got dark and I fell asleep. A woman woke me up and asked me to sign 3 papers. I was drowsy and asked what they were for. "Standard stuff." I can't remember if I signed.

Finally a doctor came and he was nice. I asked him when I could leave and he guaranteed about 2-3 hours. He said they just needed the go ahead from the missing neurologist. He asked a few questions and left.

Some time later a nurse came in and gave me 3 ibuprofin from a commercial bottle. (I think they had sent someone to a pharmacy finally. They billed $178.70)

I spent a pretty rough night because they had left a stent in my arm and patches on my chest. A woman brought a breakfast tray.

A different woman came in asking me to sign papers again. This time I was awake and I asked her what for? Two made sense and I signed. One was a request for permission to pass my info on to third parties (I didn't sign that.) I think the other had to do with insurance (they want to make sure they're paid.)

Then came another very very long cycle of my being ignored and requesting info on when I'd be released. I was told repeatedly they needed the neurologist to sign off and they were trying to find one. I never saw one.

I asked if I could be released. They said it would be AMA (against medical advice) and informed me that would effect what I was reimbursed for and how it would affect future visits. In essence they coerced me to stay until they could find the neurologist that was missing in action.

After many terrible hours they got someone to allow me to be released. Before leaving, on their form I wrote out a description of these events. It was in pencil and about a page long. The nurse at the desk said she'd put it in my file. (I doubt that happened.) I wanted somebody to apologize or at least acknowledge that the system had messed up. I still want that.

I was finally released. I will say some of this may be fuzzy or I had a headache.

But this account is the best I can do at this point. I got a bill that charged me and Medicare $11,460.70. I'm upset that some of that is untrue and a lot is exorbitant.

I have had some great Doctors there but had to transfer because of the people working the reception area. This is the second time I had to file a complaint because my medication was not sent in properly or not done at all. I saw my Doctor, Dr Oldham process it, and Express script did not get it. I kept in contact with Express Script and Medicare. Aetna got back to me and said they talked with Aaron in Dr Oldham, and she said "We are too busy now" when I heard that I went down there and there were no people there waiting. I went home and call the reception station again to inquire and ask questions and talked with Lynette and she got very condescending on the phone and told me I was there just an hour ago? What in then hell does that mean, I came for information and she told if I keep talking to here she is going to hand up.Very cocky and a nasty mouth. Then I went to another station with a different for my appointment and I stood there while the girls were talking to each other totally ignoring me and I just wanted to see how long before they check me in. I waited and waited and nothing they were very busy talking about the fun they had last night. Then I saw a man who came for his prescription and the girl as for ID and the elderly man said he did not have it as he was not told to bring it, she could have gone and asked the Doctor but no, she just kept say I need ID, I need ID and the elderly man was furious and yelling very loud and she just kept saying, I D please. To me I also am furious because it is not the Doctors but the staff, there are some very nice women, good luck finding them. I am not going back to Banner

To whom it may concern,

Granted I was not at my best after an emergency. Nobody is.

But the care I got was either non-existent or horrendous.

I'm pursuing this because it was borderline cruel-- not just negligence.

I was treated arrogantly like I was a lying 12 year old (I'm 62).

This treatment was so bad I still cringe when I think about it.

I don't want this to be shuffled off to oblivion like I'm a mere nuisance.

In 2013 Banner has published and exposed seniors Medicare numbers which are their social security numbers. They have breached confidentiality and HIPPA laws. Customer service is at its worst. Before you can be seen they want the patient to pay even though it is covered under insurance. If that happens to you just try and get the money back.
