I recently purchased some "Paradise Candles of Hawaii" from a Costco Roadshow.
Not only did the sales rep misrepresent the product, but she also lied about them being "made in Hawaii".
She said the hand-carved bowls were made in Hawaii, but they're actually shipped in from the Phillipines.
She said the candle would burn wayyyyy longer than it actually does.
She said they're all natural but they have synthetic scents and dyes.
She said the scent "lasts" and is stronger when it burns, but it doesn't.
Many times the flame gets out of control high.
Sometimes the wooden bowls catch on fire.
And, did I mention they're over priced...
Shame on you, Costco for allowing this.

I have met the owner, and his children (they were delightful) at the office in Murrieta, and I would never suspect this man of misrepresenting anything, he seemed very nice, not at all hard sell. My niece and I bought 2 candles a piece. I admit they are not huge candles, but you can see how big they are, and I burned the white ginger and coconut ones, and no headaches, and no complaints from the guys (who have complained about other candles). The smell while burning was light but very noticeable, my niece loved her candles too. The bowls are decorative wood, and after I burned one of them, I cleaned out the residual wax, and I am using it to hold jewelry (recycle, reuse), you can use these bowls for all kinds of things once the candle is finished. Keep the cotton wick trimmed to 1/4 " and the flame should be fine (keep in mind that it is a cotton wick and is clean burning, and does not burn the same as a synthetic wick). I have had no problem with any fires, but there are directions on the bottom of the candle for safe burning, and it says to keep away from pets and children, and to never leave unattended.

I purchased some of the lava melts to burn in my wax burner at the 4th Avenue Street Fair in Tucson. I have tried so many different ones all the others I have tried ended up giving me horrible headaches. Paradise candles are wonderful ! Absolutely no headaches and they smell wonderful thank-you so much for a great product

I am a wholesale customer of Paradise Candles and have been selling them out of my store for years. I've sold hundreds and hundreds of the candles and have NEVER had a single complaint. NEVER had a candle returned and I have many repeat customers who have purchased many of these candles from me. My customers LOVE these candles. They burn a long time and smell wonderful.
We have had many candles in our store over the years and Paradise Candles are by far the best candles we've ever had and have made every customer happy. Sal @ Island Outfitters, Carpinteria, CA.

Aloha,
My name is Rob, co-owner of Paradise Candles of Hawai'i. We would like to take this opportunity to address this complaint as well as provide clarity to the allegations.
We have very strong reason to suspect that this complaint was posted by a former contractor of ours that used to represent our candles at Costco. We firmly attest that the claims she is making have been solely made in retribution for her dismissal.
I would also like to clarify some of her complaints.
First, we are licensed in Hawaiian, where my wife and I started the company. We are now operating and hand pouring the candles in California.
The bowls we use are made in the Philippines from Kamani and Monkey Pod woods grown in the Philippines. Both species of trees are found growing throughout the South Pacific, including Hawai'i. The bowls are ecologically forested, which means that are bowls are made from trees that have naturally fallen, or are made from smaller pieces of wood left over from other wood products.
The perceived strength of a scent, just like spices, is based on individual preference and the environment in which they are burning. We have a countless number of loyal fans of who follow us to other Costco Warehouses just to buy our candles.
Prior to Costco allowing us to sell our candles in their warehouses, our candles were put through strict testing procedures by a third party company following ASTM standards for candle safety. Some of the many things they test for is flame height and fire hazard. We are proud to say that we were the first candle company tested for Costco that passed on our first test. All of our candles have a detailed warning label on the bottom of the bowl that tells you how to safely enjoy our candles.
I won't bother defending our price. Once you've had the opportunity to pick up, smell, light and enjoy our candles, you can make that termination for yourself.
And if you ever should have an issue with any of our candles, please bring it to our attention directly. Especially if you feel that our candles are a fire hazard, we need to know so we can properly investigate and determine the cause so no one else has a similar experience.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us at info@paradisecandlesofhawaii.com or go to our website www.paradisecandlesofhawaii.com.
