I have been sick with Bronchitis and a sprained ankle, therefore I sent my 18 yr old nephew to the above store to purchase Mucinex DM. My nephew had my drivers license, debit card & his drivers license. When it came time for him to check out, he was told if he didn't have my "pin" number he would not be able to purchase the medicine. When he came home without the medicine, and told me this "pin story, " I immediately telphoned the store. I was put on the phone with, " one of the managers, " who said, he shouldn't have taken the musinex card to the front register. (irrelevant) then she said, " this is the first I've heard of this." It happened 15 minutes ago. (irrelevant) I told her my nephew works for me and does all my errands, and never uses the debit card as a debit card as the bank charges me so he wouldn't know my pin number. I asked her why CVS had to have my pin number in order for me to purchase this medicine? She had no answer. I said, well theres not much we can do about it now, so thanks for your time. It was at this time, she slammed the phone down. Slammed.
I have many choices in my neighborhood to go to for my rx's and other items. Rite Aid, Wallgreens, Kmarts, Meijers etc. There is no reason why I should have to put up this inappropirate & unprofessional, if not borderline verbal abusive attitude.
I expect a response to this email within a reasonable amount of time which I beleive would be approximately once week, not counting the weekend.
I am in the medical profession and I assure you if I acted like your employee, or treated my patients the way I was treated, my patients would not return. Nor would I keep my job for long.

Sincerely,
Vickie Kasper Monczka, RN [protected]

This is probably what really happened. You gave your card to your nephew and I will assume you are a woman. Regardless, they checked the name on the card and saw either A. the name didn't match your nephew's gender B. It wasn't signed or C. He handed your debit card with the driver's liscense. In ANY of those three cases, if the card isn't his he would have to enter the pin.

THIS IS FOR YOUR PROTECTION.

Next, in your sad, sad condition... sore ankle and throat, you called the store and rudely asked to speak to the manager. They told you EXACTLY what I just said. Believe me, they had an answer for you, even if you didn't want to listen to it. I doubt they hung up on you for no reason.

You know what... if some stranger found your wallet on the side of the road, walked into this CVS and was able to use it without the pin you would STILL be complaining. If that were the case, I'd feel bad for you. CVS did right and covered themselves and I commend them for following proceedures

Next time, give your nephew the pin, or hobble your butt on over to CVS.

There is a button you press where you can opt out of the debit/pin option. You can also ask your cashier.

Anyways, I hope your nephew has legal documentation that allows him to use your card. A store could refuse purchase or call police for something like that.
